• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

'The Last of Us: Remastered' has a release date we just aren't sharing it yet.

My finger has been on the trigger of buying a PS4...the minute this is out both will be bought.

My local gamestop has a ps4 box with tlou on it for $399 and "coming soon" noticed it when I picked up watch dogs when it came out. I dont remember if it was official looking or if someone taped a picture to it. Damn concussion.

Lol noooo. I mean if it got announced during the conference that it was available right then to purchase in stores, I'd bounce out of the office and hit up GS.

Then return to work =(

:)

I know the feeling, I did that for Wolfenstein and I couldn't wait to get out of work to play it.

Stuff can get overnighted. If it's overnighted monday, most stores will get it tuesday.
Stores need to be notified more than a day ahead of time. They need to make actual orders for the game, clear shelf space, and I am sure some places would love to collect pre-orders.

And I'm positive that's not even half of what goes into it.

This is the feeling Sony hopes to perpetuate when they announce that TLOU remastered is available next week on PS4 only. This E3 is even more important than last in trying to do everything possible to make you pick a side. I have both so it doesn't matter to me but to those with the either/or mentality, especially 360 owners who didn't have a PS3 on the verge of going PS4 over One, TLOU re-mastered will be a huge reason to say screw it, I'm buying a PS4. This will especially be the case if Microsoft doesn't come out guns-blazing when it comes to first party ip's and sooner rather than later release dates for them.

They could easily announce an immediate digital release and stock retail later.

I went to an Uncharted 2 event a week before the game came out in 2009. It was a very similar setup. RSVP on a website to secure yourself a spot, etc. They held events at a handful of Sony movie theaters around the U.S.

At the end of the night they unexpectedly handed out copies of the game to everyone. It was an awesome surprise getting the game a week early. :)

Oh...I have an XB1...and a Wii U...nothing has been on PS4 that captures my interest...and I have played LOU on PS3...just need an excuse (any) to finally pull the trigger and this is as good as any.

Bonus if there is a bundle. :)

4 vs 40+ theaters though. Plus I think there were restrictions on how many people could attend those UC2 events (100 per location I think?). Most modern movie theaters hold like 2-3x that :)

Don't get me wrong. Would be awesome but I'm skeptical.

What if Sony gave them a window... say "summer"... would they still order?

The reason I ask is because I remember years ago when the Saturn came out the manager of my local EB had no clue he was getting them until they showed up. Up until then they had a date of sometime in September.

When I use to work at Gamestop, especially around the time of E3, we use to stay open late and have shit like this happen. I honestly would not be surprised if they were told they are getting shipments on the way now, and were told to hold them til the actual press conference announcement. If someone comes in and asks for it they would say "sometime this summer" or something to that extent.

It really would not surprise me if that happens. I think I will ask my manager friend at GS and see what I get. Hell he is the one who told me about the PS4/Vita bundles about a month ago. Now you see it popping up on amazon (different country but you get the idea). If i hear anything I will post back in this thread.

Also fuck sony/naughty dog etc etc for an announcement of an announcement of a date.

Same thing with the 360E last year. Only 2 stores in my area had any idea about it until it showed up at the store.

That's true.

How does that work? Are they just expecting more 360 stock and it turns out to be a new model?

I guess an anonymous video game shipment comes in that turns out to be a new game.

So TLOU Remastered can be a console seller ? Doubt it !

You can doubt it all you want but TLOU will sell PS4's. Hell I've already bought it twice on PS3(let my buddy have my first copy) and it's the game I want most in my hands right now. Sorry but you definitely don't understand how popular TLOU was and will be again in 1080p, 60 fps and ONLY ON PS4. Best believe it!

I already have this game on ps3 and got the platinum. With that said, if this is announced as available immediately to download, hype will take over my body and I will hit purchase

Well we are talking a 10 year old game being remade versus a one year old game, but I do agree that there is clearly demand.

The thing about TLOU is that it was clearly a game designed to be on a more powerful console as shown by the poor IQ and constant frame dropping. For people that were really bothered by that, a PS4 version is a big deal.

But its not only on ps4.

But its not only on ps4.

A lot of us 360 players migrated over to PS4 and never got a chance to play TLOU.

Personally the day TLoU PS4 releases is the day I buy a PS4 (preferably bundled). Whether that makes it a system seller is up to you.

But its not only on ps4.

Jesus Chri....listen dude and all you other duders out there, the end all be all version of TLOU is only available on PS4. We're not talking about PS3 here and we're not talking about the PS3 version of TLOU here, we are talking about The PS4 version and whether that will be popular. You people that seem to think it won't have blinders on. Serious blinders!

I am one of them, haven't been spoiled. I'm excited as hell for this.

And another! My point is this is a VERY popular title that will be VERY popular on PS4. Will it be as big as on PS3? I doubt it but I wouldn't put it past it. The PS4 has a huge install base already this early in it's lifespan, who the hell knows how much this thing will end up selling eventually. My guess is a lot though. Definitely enough to call it a "system seller", whatever the hell that means anymore anyway since there hasn't been a single game since the original Halo where I felt I needed to buy a console just because of it.

Why is there doubt about the demand for TLOU PS4?

You're getting a complete, better-looking and (supposedly) better running version of one of the best games of last gen on the same new platform that will be supported with new games for years to come. Not to mention everyone who missed out last gen now has the perfect opportunity to try it out

You can't sell a system with only last gen ports, but the definitive version of a game as well-received as TLOU is a solid addition to the lineup

Yup, I agree.

This will be a game many newcomers to the PS ecosystem will flock to.

I dont doubt there is demand for this, but people are blowing it WAAAAAAY out of proportion.

This is not going to move hardware in any substantial way.

Some of my friends a rebuying it, my GF is also buying it and playing it for the first time since she was also mostly a 360 only gamer in terms of consoles. Couple of my friends are also buying it for the first time, same situation. This will sell and definitely move consoles.

I am in complete agreement but you're wasting your breath. TLOU PS4 doubters are sticking to this thread like bees to honey. It's kind of funny how much they're lying to themselves. Why, I don't know. All I know is it's gonna be UHHHMAZING! And I'll have it in my hands next week!!!

Here's another.

I got a pretty good deal on a pre-owned PS4 from Amazon, so I went ahead and grabbed it. Pretty much just for The Last of Us, I do most of my gaming on the PC.

It was really either that or a GPU upgrade and I want to hold out a little longer on that, so I'll probably end up buying some games on PS4 just to have something to play on it.

Yeah, I was there for it day 1 on the PS3, but who cares, it's one of the best games ever made and it ran like shit on the PS3. Can't wait. Also, I haven't played the DLC yet.

I think it will be fine. I've not had any issues downloading games on PSN for the PS4. It's a rerelease of a game for a console that has a comparatively (to PS3) low install base. I doubt that demand will be as insane as you think.

I haven't been able to download trials fusion, child of light, transistor, wolfenstein, or watchdogs until late afternoon on release day even though I pre-ordered all of them

They could easily announce an immediate digital release and stock retail later.

Also stores could get shipments in Monday afternoon
Only district managers or higher may know about it
Could be a gamestop exclusive for the first week

I'm sure it will leak from gamestop employees sometime during the day Monday if it is really releasing Monday night

If there really is a Monday release, it would have been awesome if they really kept the game a secret like they planned but just keeping the release date a secret is pretty dumb at this point

They must be holding that juicy bit until E3. No reason to hold it back, otherwise. I mean the game has already been released on the PS3.

Plus, the difference between Halo remaster and TLOU is that the 360 dominated in NA. Most people who wanted Halo, bought Halo. TLOU was missed by many because the PS3 wasn't as huge. Now that people are making their choices, having the opportunity to play TLOU on PS4 could push them forwards. I mean, why wouldn't they, TLOU is widely seen as the best game of last gen

I wouldn't say it was that the PS3 wasn't as big in America, but that there's many people jumping from 360 to PS4 who didn't bother to buy a PS3. Hell, there may be more people like me who own a PS3 and never played TLOU. I didn't bother with it because I knew I was gonna get a PS4 and I knew they were gonna port the game.

Same.

I too have a PS3, but waited for the inevitable PS4 port.

I am also looking forward to the PS4 versions of:

-GT6
-GOW:A
-Beyond: Two Souls
