Personally, I don't know if I buy that. I've been to the show. As hyped as you are, you still respond honestly. People will cheer, laugh or recoil as appropriate. You still process what he's saying! So I'd sooner guess that a segment of the crowd still recall Comey for the election scandal instead of the more recent Trump investigation, which is unfortunate.

Looks like they're still missing some content that's only available through CBS All Access. Oh well

I was just at the show last week. So I know too. But this was breaking news they were hearing for the first time. I think the initial response to cheer his ouster is just that. Colbert has done plenty of bits of how terrible Comey is. And it only takes a few cheers to get the whole crowd going in one direction. It's a gut reaction to someone you don't like getting shit on.

He called them out later and explained it a little more and that sobered them up.

Scarborough's band isn't terrible..but he is so so so so stiff and lacks any kind of attitude It's kind of dull to watch him. The rest of the band are great musicians, though.

It's an intersection of mobster stereotypes and White House politics. I think it's great. Plus the material isn't hinging on the impersonation; it's just supplementing the actual written material.

At first I was sad to see The Colbert Report go and hesitant to see if Colbert could bring anything new to the tired late night talkshow format, but I have to say Colbert is killing it. I guess it helps that Colbert is a genuine, smart and likeable person as well, but still. I see the first part of the show (before the interviews) as a watered down Colbert Report, which is better than nothing.
