The least satisfying guns in first person shooters

Kid Icarus Uprising takes the cake for me (I don't differentiate between FPS and TPS when they play the same). Firing weightless energy balls that have no impact and need like 20 hits to kill even the weakest enemies. Killzone Mercenary felt pretty bad too but maybe that's a result of playing without sound (I still killed more enemies with melee than with guns in that game because the guns felt so weak).

Funny. In the other thread I said the Halo CE pistol and Doom shotgun were the best.

Now I m saying the Halo 3 and Doom pistols are the worst.

Team Fortress 2's shotguns. They're not primary weapons for a reason, but weak shotguns make me sad.

In fact, let's just nominate any game that doesn't feature a loud, powerful shotgun that sends enemies reeling backwards.

I love the Binary Rifle. You can absolutely decimate with it.

However it does have a fairly large disadvantage that when you zoom in everyone can see where you are due to a red laser sight coming from the gun. Means you have to be fairly aggressive with it rather than sitting and camping in a corner.

The Halo 3 pistol on the other hand...

This gun was abysmal. We went from complete destruction in CE to meh in Halo 2 to awful and completely useless in Halo 3. It is weak, with a very slow rate of fire and is very inaccurate.

I got a kill with it the other day, I was extremely surprised at how bad the other player must have been. Even the best Halo player in the world can't use this gun effectively.
I remember back in my halo 3 days when my friends and I encountered a garbage team we would handicap ourselves by limiting ourselves to the pistol.

The Mosin Nagut and any nom-MK2 pistol in MGO2. The tranquilizer sniper was not only inaccurate, but redundant. And slow, and vastly outclassed by its on pistol sister. And the pistols. Goddamn useless. Why would you roll with a semi-auto, slow, inaccurate, pistol in a game of headshots? You wouldn't.

The auto-snipers in Counter-Strike, before they patched them into OP-ness. (If anyone even remembers that long ago). Couldn't hit shit with them, ever, then they became too strong.

Also the M249 is one of the most effective weapons on the battlefield, but Counter-Strike makes it look silly. I'm talking like 1.3 days, they've probably patched it into relevance, but that's what I remember.

THE SNIPER RIFLE IN PERFECT DARK

NeiuuER.jpg

This gun was so bad

so here's the things that it had wrong

1. In a game like Perfect Dark, where the aiming was really wonky when you "aimed", this became very difficult to just get a shot in on another player

2. The gun does abysmal damage, a headshot doesn't kill in 1 hit, which considering how hard it is too shoot, was a very weird idea

3. This weapon does not have auto-aim, back in the day of only using 1 stick, this was a horrendous flaw as auto-aim was the crutch for this game.

This gun was hard to aim, and didn't kill fast. In fact, the other guns that were hard to shoot had huge payoffs, the two revolvers were both beasts.

Completely useless gun, not as bad as the Klobb, but the Klobb is somewhat a fun gun to use in some way (killing people with the klobb is a satisfying feeling)

Since we've already established the klobb, I'm gonna go with that fast shot bouncy grenade gun in either halo 2 or 3. Brute shot, I think? Worst grenade launcher ever.

That gun was awful. When me and a buddy would play social slayer against bad kids we'd just run around with pistols to add more embarrassment as to how bad they were. Pistols with a good juke and team work actually can do some work but you have to be very accurate.

It was even funnier when we'd destroy them with pistols and they'd start thinking pistols were some how good and start using it themselves

EDIT: Beaten by Ol No Bones, he knows

Hey! In the most satisfying thread I put Binary Rifle! I love that gun, it is so OP but the feedback and disintegrated enemy looks awesome. Least satisfying gun would have to be Halo 2 and Halo 3 SMGs, or Halo 3 Plasma Pistol. EDIT: Yeah, that magnum in Halo 3 was so bad. Like a wet flacid cock, so useless. One Halo CE pistol would destroy thousands of those things.

"It is so OP but" completely destroyed any notion of balance the Halo franchise had.

The shotgun from FEAR 2.... I think it's the sound that totally makes it suck so much - no oomph.

Especially after the kickass FEAR 1 boomstick

The Halo 3 plasma pistol is the worst offender for me. It took like 17 shots on an unshielded opponent to kill them.

All PDW's the anti tank class got in BF 2. Its like you are the only one on the battlefield running with a water pistol. Throwing stones seemed more efficient.

C'mon, this thing's job is to knock people back. Including the user!

Any Halo gun prior to the 4th game. For some reason Bungie wanted their weapons to sound weak and ineffectual. The newest developer finally got it right and now the guns sound bad ass.

I know it's not an FPS, but most of the guns in GTA San Andreas, thanks to the god awful sound effects, that make them sound like cap guns or party poppers.

When it comes to HL2, the SMG is the only weapon which really wasn't any good. The pistol and revolver had disappointingly weak sound effects but were fun to use, and the rest - the gravity gun, shotgun, pulse rifle, crossbow - were goddamn awesome in every way.

I agree with the Borderlands games, especially 2, all the guns in that felt horrible, significantly worse than even the first game.

Oh, and the sound effects on FEAR 2's weapons, especially the shotgun, were shockingly inferior to the first game's. The rest of the gunplay was pretty much intact, but the sound design was really a bummer.

Inaccurate and weak.

Agreed. I did like the handcannon and shotgun in that game though.

I think that part of the issue with the guns in the Bioshick games is that they're designed to be levelled-up which means that they tend to be underpowered to begin with.

Edit: I also agree with the post below about the Halo assault rifle.

All the guns in Left 4 Dead, apart from the shotguns.

Also the spluttering assault rifle from any of the Halo games. The fairly low range coupled with the bullet sponge enemies make this weapon feel like you're blowing a raspberry at the enemies, particularly when playing online.

Klobb is the first thing that came to mind. Completely worthless.

Every gun in Mirror's Edge. You just feel dirty when you pick one up, I immediately throw it away.

Spiker in Halo 3 and the smg in 2. Out of the Halo mainstays, I never like the plasma rifle.
