The Letter (Wii U) - Review Thread

"No one should ever see this."

"There's too much beauty here."

Looks like an early 90's PC adventure game only much, much worse. How in the hell was this put on to the eShop, truly mind boggling.

Maybe Nintendo heard people liked Gone Home and thought "Hey, it'll give us some indie cred if we get a non-combative adventure game on our shop!" without actually having engaged with Gone Home themselves...

Saw this often on the miiverse screen and wondered about it. This thread may have saved my life.

Buy Saturn 9 on XBLIG for $1 instead. Its really good for a buck.

That item discovery noise was AWESOME!! eek.

I honestly can't believe Nintendo would allow this on the eShop. Also I remember something about NintenDaan getting complaints from the creator saying they had previous contact or something. Don't remember that small debacle.

That was the BrickBlast U lad who lied on Miiverse about how I had contact with him. According to him, he requested to me that I should make a video for him, which is hilarious. (That game is super dreadful as well by the by. Gave me headaches during the recording.)

Back on topic, I don't have much to say beyond the video and NWR review. You can actually clear this game even quicker. My record is at 3 minutes and 30 seconds. The trick is to press A when you land on the beach. You don't even to walk all the way up to the end.

I'm more shocked that NWR apparently found something good enough in the game to deserve a 2/10.

Sorry... I guess?

Seriously, I wonder how a "game" like this was approved?
Indie games is good but let's not turn the eShop into a new App Store, please.

I love the camera at the end of the game. Either you are incredibly short, or those are some damn big beach chairs.
Maybe the whole game is a metaphor for birth. The last area is a bloody hospital where you just wait until you're "born" into the light. And the main character is actually a toddler, remembering the start of his life in a very nuanced, metaphorical way. The Letter is actually too deep, the layman simply can't appreciate the incredible storytelling depth it so expertly portrays.

The first article is factually wrong. The developer posted an update preview video a couple of days ago. The game is not exactly good, but I think it is a bit harsh to call it a scam.

Are you officially founding the 'Letter speed-running scene'?

Sorry... I guess?

ooh my mistake.

You do good work, playing these crappy games so we don't have to.

oh god

the ace attorney music
the photo shop
the self pity
the awkwardness
the cut in memes

i can of feel bad for him actually.

Yeah...this is just sad really. He needs to learn you cannot delay life, it will not wait for you, and the time to make a good decision starts today. Fucking off while leeching off your parents is not a good start. It's only going to get harder, may as well get started!

Yeah, there are a few people in the NWF scene who are a bit too much drama to them... (also hi, didn't realize you were on GAF now)

Damn shame to Nintendo for publishing this in their eshop.
Nintendo didn't publish it though. :P

Guys, I think you're all missing the point that this is the first time we've seen SubCon rendered in three dimensions.

Fake edit: Ninja'd by daydreaming.

The first look is literally the whole entire game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u39AmLJRw6Y

That... can't be real can it?
It's just so bad. How did that end up on the Wii U? I know the system is hurting for games Nintendo but come on lol...

I laughed but i feel like we should stop talking about the vid, might devolve into just making fun of him.

Agreed.

Anyways, back on topic, SO 'THE LETTER' IS TOTAL SHIT, HUH?

I seriously think someone at Nintendo was hoping this was going to be like their Gone Home or something, without any actual knowledge of what Gone Home was. It's the only way I could see this having gotten on the store. Not that they haven't let shit get on their shops before or whatever, but hot damn, that's... yeah. That's some garbage.

That ending is fucking amazing.

There's actually something naturally unsettling about poor, low poly environments, but dude clearly just had no idea what he was doing/didn't care.

Also, that weird midi-metal in the second stage.

You are certainly not the first person who told me this. It is... interesting. (Hiya, have been for a little while now!)

Cheers, haha. It is not much, but if it helps others to be informed... Well, that is all what matters.

Oh the things I could tell you. (I'm slow to put 2+2 together at times... lol)

Watch this game be the best-selling July eShop game, opening the flood-gates for more masterpieces.

No idea on how many unit's it's selling. But been #10 on top 20 eShop non-VC recent releases chart for few weeks now, so much be doing decently. This bad publicity the game is getting, I believe is actually helping out the game by driving up purchases.
