The Louis Theroux Video Megathread

I think I've seen almost all Louis Theroux documentary/weird weekend videos that the internet has to offer. I have to say, I wish we had something like this guy in America. The slightly awkward and boyish charm that makes Louis Theroux's journalistic persona (whether forced or natural) provides for some great entertainment. His Weird Weekends documentary series is a hilarious and sometimes disturbing look into the lives of the strange.

Anyway, I just wanted to share some entertainment with GAF. I'll post my own opinion as a 5-point review score - denoted by *'s. There's a good chance you won't agree with my scoring so watch them all!

The Most Hated Family In America: Probably the most well known of his documentaries and for good reason. About the Phelps church and how deluded human beings can become. ***** http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4413388146858417528

Louis and the Nazis: Another look at racism in middle America. Highlights include Louis being asked by a Nazi if he's a jew. ***** http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6677939873081656077

Black Supremacists: Yeah, racism is a reoccurring theme. Cameo appearances by Al Sharpton and a group that swears that Vikings and Tom Jones are black. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4016172415001932955 ****

Louis Theroux Explores the Porn Industry: He meets up with some porn stars and even tries to venture in to the industry to work himself. Highlights include a straight porn star that does gay porno - really eye opening. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8247182854535488599 *****

Swingers: Someone made a thread about going to a swinger party. Here's what you need to know: There are some ugly folks that go (host) to these things. Highlights include a jet black dildo on the wall. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=896097672888471651 ***

The Brothel: About a brothel in (or around....I forgot) Nevada. Highlights include a guy that pays prostitutes to pretend to be his girlfriend, but not have sex with him. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=844247729991384350 ****

Televangelists: Uh huh. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2174699430343389250 ***

South Africa: About the Boer separatists in South Africa after the end of apartheid. Racism abounds. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8471943714124692876 ****

Enlightenment: Louis goes to India to find fruit loops that jump up and down and yell in a vain attempt to achieve happiness. Highlights include folks jumping up and down, worshiping human beings, and a bald guy that can stare into your soul. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6138851398124600341 ****

Gangsta Rap: Louis goes down to the "Dirty South" to try to jump start a career as a gangsta rapper. Cameo appearance by Master P. Highlights include Louis making a rap about how he's too tall for his Fiat. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=9044535288933434083 ***

UFOs: The insane factor his high in this one. Highlights: A guy that calls himself Lord Commander of the Earth Protectorate who makes guns that can only shoot aliens and some old guy that channels some head alien from the planet Koldas. http://www.guba.com/watch/2000831812 ****

Body Building: Female mandibles that are too large to be female mandibles. Muscle-girl fetishists and some egotistical meathead fucktard. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3186044996544581363 ***

Vegas: If you want to feel good about your life, watch this. Gambling addicts losing tens of thousands of dollars. Louis tries and comes out in the positive, though. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8496651290175922534 ****

EDIT: Some Add-Ins

Jimmy Savile: Louis meets up with Jimmy Savile - an odd acting elderly British TV and radio star. It was voted in one of the top 50 documentaries of all time, but I suppose you have to be British to really appreciate it enough (or unless you're familiar with Jimmy Savile). http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=176786372876365142

Anne Widdecombe: I'm watching this one right now. It's about the English Conservative Party politician, Anne Widdecombe and what Theroux calls, her "unusual private life." I just started it, so I can't put another useless sentence here to serve as personal input. :P http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4821464309183241173

Hopefully when the new one about plastic surgery comes out, I'll find a way to download it and host it, or if we're really lucky, it'll be on Google Video.

There are a couple I missed...I'll put em up in a bit. They aren't among the better ones, though. But for now, i'm fucking tired of typing.

It's sad that you can really see how some of the girls in this family will themselves to be victims of the outside world, and then use that as evidence for their craziness.

I honestly think that if the outside world treated them like roses, they'd still be just as scathing to other people because of the nature of what they believe.

I remember earlier in the year hunting down and watching a bunch of Theroux videos on Veoh part of his weird weekends series, which were down-right brilliant.

Louis constantly plays the naive reporter who somehow manages to assimilate himself into some of the weirdest and odd groups of people your likley to meet. You haven't got it listed but his doco with Jimmy Savvile (From Jim will fix it fame was pretty good) along with the PR person (Forget his name that spins story).

I encourage this thread.

Yeah his shows are good, although sometimes Louis tries to steer the direction of the interviews a little too much. As if he's made up his mind before even meeting the person.

But yeah it's surprising how much access he is able to get to people's lives. It must have to do with his schpiel of being dorky and naive--he pulls it off well.

The Most Hated Family In America:

Wow! Why did I just watch that? So much hatred is being filtered down through those children. The pasture is a maniac. It's sad to see the two youngest ones have no idea what they are doing and being forced into a downward spiral. They will despise society for shunning them and continue the behavior through adulthood because they'll see no way out.

Then you have the 21 year old who, for all intensive purposes is decent looking
glancing at her mother tells there's not much hope however
and could easily lead a normal life if she chose to. It's hard to imagine a nearly grown adult living their life like this on a day-to-day basis. At some point you have to imagine the light will go on and she'll figure out that if that's the message she wants to spread in life, be it right or wrong, that it's easier to catch flies with honey rather than vinegar.

In total I'm impressed by the documentary and can't wait to watch some more of these. Thanks for the post.

Make sure to watch the one about gambling, and also the one about nazis. Both excellent. Oh yeah, and the survivalist one. Great stuff.

I'm sure I'll get around to watching them all. I'm going to need a little laughter after that last one however.

I'm going to watch the UFO one now. :lol :lol

Thx for this thread. There's some interesting documentaries, that's for sure. Just watched the one about the most hated family in America. Unbelievable really.

I had already seen "The Most Hated Family in America" one and parts of the pornography industry one on TV some time ago. I checked out the UFOs and Nazi vids now.

Good stuff.

I actually did see that one but I totally forgot to put it up. I'll edit it in - Thanks!

survivalist is great!

"but hippies put flowers in the rifle..."

"yeha because there young and stupid. As soon as you grow up you realise you have to put bullets into rifles" :lol :lol

Just finished the UFO one. The best part is the old guy who "contacts the subspace network" and calls "Korton" all while sounding like a moron.

Here's a Youtube video of just that part OMG. :lol

That was hilarious.. I also liked the heaven's gate reference. :lol

At the very end (last minute) of the Televangelists one there's some pure gold.

A lady is bent over after the evenings performance and 'rejoicing' talking about how she 'used' to be gay and 'used' to smoke pot. Louis seems concerned and wants to help. So he first asks if she needs some water, the ladies around her say no, no and then he says. Maybe she needs a joint. :lol :lol :lol

This stuff is genius.

I just noticed you linked to The Brothel, I've been looking for that for ages, so thanks.

There's a girl in it, completely damaged, just had horrible experiences with guys, who completely falls for Louis. To the point where I swear she's in love with him. He's charming anyway, but he's probably the first guy to be nice to her since she was 15 years old.

EDIT: Watched it again, forgot Louis pretty much falls for her too.

...not to mention me.

No problem. Yeah - the amount of restraint Louis exercises in that one is pretty amazing.

What a ripoff, the porn industry one isn't working!

Anyway, thanks for this. It's good that you can download these on ipod format, I'll watch them that way. I had only seen the most hated family and I've always wanted to see more of his stuff.

I noticed that too. Keep clicking the link and eventually it'll work. Weird, I know.

Now I have to clear the "Louis Theroux porn" queries off my history in Firefox.

Wow. Now it's completely off Google. What gives?

EDIT: I wish we could delete posts. I mistakenly added another instead of editing my previous one.

Weird..Well I got it after refreshing it a couple times right after you posted that tip. Not to dwell on it any longer.

Man, my ISP is going to kill me for downloading all of these. :lol Thanks again for all the work you put into the first post.

Watching the UFO documentary:

"Often with clear sightings during the day the UFOs will appear as regular aircraft"

:lol

Anyone watching the plastic surgery episode right now? It's....disgusting. Everyone looks awful, they don't look human. All the pec implants look like tits...terrible, terrible tits.

Actually, I found out about this guy on American television. He was one of Michael Moore's correspondents on TV Nation.

Alright, this Laura woman does look better, though she was fine before, but I cannot get past the creepiness of their faces not moving.

Looking for the plastic surgery episode through torrents and such but having no luck. As soon as I find it i'll edit the episode in the original post.

WOW. I can't believe that mother. I mean, the old guy and his manager seem to be doing it for money, you know, like living off of his reputation and stuff. But I can't believe that mother and her poor kids... yikes... its scary to know that there are people out there like that, that are actually racist to their core, and willfully passing it on to her kids is just disgusting...!

It was interesting, not one of his best. Have to give him props for actually getting something done though. I'm pretty sure i wouldnt have.

Yeah, to be honest plastic surgery has been covered so extensively before, there really wasn't much new to look at.

Works as a freak show though.
