The Mariana Trench Sure is Deep

Goblin shark is pretty terrifying. That upper jaw thing reminds us all subconsciously about Alien.

It always baffled me that we managed to go into frigging space, but have explored less than 10% of our own oceans.

Exploring the deep ocean is in many ways as difficult if not more so than exploring space. And higher risk for human exploration in the event of equipment failure.

what if you go too deep and you end up on the other side of the world

It's like you go soooo deep that it's pure darkness but then it starts to get more bright the deeper you go but you are actually ascending.

*mind explodes*

If you keep going down (through the core and all that shit) then eventually you would come out into the brightness on the other side of the world. So is our shallow actually India's deep? Because technically you would keep descending. It's hard to explain.....

The problem with large creatures at such depths is pretty much food, I doubt there would be enough food for em.

I think travelling into that trench would scare me more than travelling into space...

Well yea theres nothing in space [thats not at least a few light-years from us], there are definitely things in the ocean.
Space is quite beautiful, whereas the Ocean is just darkness.

It would also be extremely difficult to grow very large when you're under that much pressure.

Wait, they've only mapped 10% of the ocean? So there's probably even deeper parts? With more weird shit in it?

I'm scared, hold me.

If we start from our location say the direct right of the earth in the picture and then descend allllll the way the other side of the world(left side) then in their terms we would actually be ascending but in our terms we would be descending.

Holy shit.

Consider that the deepest depth of that image in the OP is only around 6.8 miles.

Now consider that picture labels the crust, 3-30 miles (so a 27-mile range between values even), as "very thin."

Now, consider that the radius of the earth is around 4000 miles.

So, the depth of that image in the OP is only around 0.17% of the way to the center of the earth.

And yet the oceans are so thin when the planet is viewed as a cutaway.

Yeah this might be the most terrifying pic in here so far. The vast deep of the sea is a cosmic horror. You don't need space for that kinda fear.

"Taken down with hearts alive
Our hearts alive

Lurking dark underground
Descend to the bottom
Swim below eternally
Into the deep blue sea

Time and space
All alone
It can be a lonely place
There it goes
Opening up
I can't stand
I can't breathe
Rolled fin out
Oil stripped
Hold is filled

Ocean coil
Water boils
He swims to the surface
Flame from mouth
Smoke he breathes
Enter the caverns of the deep"

If Cthulhu really was that deep, wouldn't it die if it got anywhere near the surface?

Colossal Squid can't survive at shallow depths.

Actually once you pass the core gravity would make you feel like you were ascending again

Yeah man. Insanity!

I would rather go to space anyday than descend into that abyss, I imagine this is the true reason we "know more about space than the oceans" shit's scary yo.
