I'm just kidding, heh. I know there have been a few cases of Metal fans getting a concussion from head banging, but this is obviously a rare case.

The only time I ever got close to a head injury from Headbanging is when I slammed my head on something on the stage and gave my forehead a big fat goose egg. I headbang the entire set for the band I came to see, and keep it relatively tame otherwise. Cannot move my head for a couple weeks afterwards but that is just muscle soreness from the movements.

Heard the new Opeth. Thought it was quite boring and uninspired. Liked two songs. Will'O and The Seventh Sojourn. Rest of the songs had some good bits and pieces here and there, but none of them formed a fully enjoyable track for me. Mikael does his best to shit the bed here as well as he did on Heritage and in Pale Communion to a degree. His lyrics used to be meaningful and his vocals used to soar. Now, he's intolerable. Not sure what happened, but it really does feel like I've lost a really good friend. Opeth was one band I grew up with, and to hear them go down this wholly uninspired road is disheartening.
Pale Communion was a much more solid album I thought, and that's not saying much.

My wife calls power metal (stuff like Hammerfall and the like) "Poodle Metal." She's seen and heard many of these bands when she used to be the catering manager at SwedenRock for a number of years. I listen to a large number of power metal bands and she always makes fun of me for it. She really doesn't care for any metal with clean vocals and mostly sticks to black and melodic death metal.

I remember from my youth, that the day after headbanging at a metal gig the moped helmet felt like it weighed a ton. A friend of mine stagedived with a beer bottle in his backpocket. It wasn't a pretty sight, when he landed on his ass.
There isn't much headbanging on Doom Metal gigs either.

Me, but fortunately I see everything nearer than 100-200 meters just fine. So no glasses for me while doing sports or being at a concert.

Same. Sometimes I'll sub em out for contacts at concerts, but I've learned that if I headbang moderately then they stay on my head.
Guardian put on an amazing show last night - easily the best of the three times I've seen them, thanks in part to Hansi crushing so many of the screams on the setlist. Normally it's a rare treat when he breaks them out, but he was averaging about one to two gloriously intense bellows per song. He's been my favorite singer for many years, so to hear him channel the rawest depths of his voice with such frequency was incredible - AND I scored a copy of their newest album autographed by the Bards themselves. To top it off I saw Time What is Time, a song I didn't know if I'd ever get see live since they play it so infrequently these days.

A 16 oz water bottle was five freaking dollars, but they closed the register for the night before Guardian's encore songs (during which my vision went black for a few seconds and I stumbled back into the crowd because I was running on such crippling fumes). I pleaded with her, suggesting that she could keep my $5 bill at the till and just ring it up tomorrow, and she told me to stick my head in the sink of the bathroom (which as you can imagine was filthy by that point in the night) to drink from the faucet. Like a goddam desperate animal.
Her saying that ignited a rage within me (yeah hi, I already spent 150 bucks on tickets and merch at your extortionist venue, I'm not trying to scam your precious water supply), which at least sustained me for a bit. I make a point to always be genuinely polite and friendly to everyone I come across in life, but this was the rare instance where I fired back a phrase of colorful vengeance toward her before storming away.

Darn, at least Demolition Hammer had a good night. Aftermath are underground gems I'm a real big fan of the old school Chicago thrash scene, and Aftermath were pretty amazing. The singer is a cool dude, and Divebomb did a great remaster of their Killing the Future demo

Never posted in this thread before (I think) but just wanted to pop in and say the new Neurosis album is awesome but too damn short lol
Much stronger than Honor Found in Decay which I feel is one of their weaker albums (should revisit it to see if my mind/taste has changed since it's release). Fires Within Fires starts with a somewhat similar feel and tone but quickly shows it's more aggressive and almost a bit GTTR like. Man, I need more!

In Silence We Yearn is a great album.
Also, can we please for one moment appreciate how beautiful the names of post-rock bands are? Oh Hiroshima, Paint The Sky Red, God Is An Astronaut, We Lost The Sea, Those Who Ride With Giants and I could go on and on and on. The names just capture perfectly the mood this music creates.

I'm in a Ghoul / Impaled mood lately. These two bands have almost the same lineup.
Ghoul is mostly Thrash Metal in terms of riffing, while the vocals are Death Metal styled, with a lot of silly lyrics that I appreciate. Maniaxe, Splatterthrash and Dungeon Bastards are great albums.
Impaled is Death Metal with a big Carcass influence, but IMO better than them. Mondo Medicale is a great album.

On the topic of Carcass worship there's also Necrony. Early 90s Swedish death take on the early Carcass sound.
Can't agree with Impaled being better than Carcass but obviously opinions

Don't think I've heard Frightmare, I'll check them out. I don't know Necrony either!As for Carcass, I like them but in small doses, for some reason their melodic stuff gets on my nerves sometimes.

If you like the two first albums of Carcass, I recommend these two Finnish bands from the early 90's:
Xysma - Above the Mind of Morbidity EP
Disgrace - Inside the Labyrinth of Depression demo
Love the wet bubbling growls they have, and the guitar sound on Disgrace's demo.

"Farther On" on DTP Transcendence disc 2 is paranormal. The chorus in that song is one of the best things I've ever heard, so heavy but so melancholy at the same time, like an '80s pop radio song but also like metal from the future. Crazy stuff how this song is buried in the middle of a bonus disc of a relatively solid release material quality-wise.
