Anyone here knows Bloodshot Dawn? It's (melodic technical) death metal from the UK. I really dig their latest album (and look at this amazing album cover!)

Thanks for sharing, bought the album today.

Anyone here listened to Master? Were they a big thing in 90's death metal?

I never really got into anything they put out after they went on hiatus in the 90s, but they always seemed like a band that should have been a lot bigger than they were. Just one of those weird things that they never managed to break through to the same degree that a lot of their contemporaries did.

I used to have a couple of their albums. Found them to be fairly average compared to some of their early 90s DM peers to be honest but worth checking out still.

Listening to this bad boy this afternoon, first time in years, truly one of the all-time highs of the genre:

well I mean history has kind of revealed how unlucky they were. their first album was recorded in 1985 on the bleeding edge of DM and they kind of lived in obscurity for years because of record label crap.

They were basically the missing link between Venom and true first-wave DM

Seminal band that stayed in the underground for too long. Had tons and tons of demos in the mid 80's, but I think the first album actually came out in 1990. A lot of bands did name themselves after Master's songs too.

Master's S/T and "On The Seventh Day God Created...Master" are classics. Paul Masvidal from Cynic did lead guitars on the 2nd album

Should really say that Master is essentially a one man band, Paul Speckmann, with revolving/session musicians. He had a bunch of other side projects which were basically re-recorded or same style of music under Death Strike, Abomination, Paul Speckmann Project.

Abomination - Soldier
Master - Funeral Bitch
Death Strike - Fuckin Death

I just have to say when Dream Theater released the Dream Theater album in 2013 I wasn't too into it, but I tell you I listen to it now more than any other. The sound mixing in that album is incredible. John Petrucci said it had to sound like a seven-layer chocolate cake in how full it was and I always think they achieved that. I also remember saying Illumination Theory did not end as well as their other 20 min. epics but I was also wrong on that. Illumination Theory is amazing and ends very well.

Same can be said about DragonForce's Maximum Overload. I didn't like when it was first released and now I listen to it more than the others. Three Hammers is possibly the best song they have done. My go to workout song.

Cool, I might go check them out, they are playing here with Solstice in a few months.

I wouldn't really expect much from them live anymore. Wouldn't expect them to draw a huge crowd. Paul Speckmann is one of the oldest guys in that scene. They were past their prime right around the second album haha.

New Nightwish is good. Solid effort and enough stand out moments. Same goes for the Arjen Lucassen and Anneke Giersbergen collaboration, alltough that one is not metal at all (I call it symphonic folk/progrock).

Oh, and where these Kamelot samples already posted? If not, samples for the upcoming album (all tracks):

Sounds great to me.

DT is a very solid album. For some reason I never rate it very high as a whole in my mind, but when I think about the individual songs, I think most are pretty great. The mix is not really my favourite though, a bit too loud/flat sounding at times. But it does have a punch to it and sounds "in your face". Dramatic Turn of Events sounded lifeless, so this was much better. Illumination Theory live was amazing last tour (and captured greatly on their last dvd https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OaUbq3fghWQ)

Oh, and yes, that Dragonforce album is really solid and fun, screw the haters.

Thanks for the post. Can't wait. Seeing them live with DF in May!

That punch comes from Mangini. It sounds to me like he has his snare tuned lower (fuller? Not sure how to describe it). Maybe even the bass drums as well. He really slid right in to fill Portnoy's shoes and has done a tremendous job. He's a music genius in his own right. And he plays Portnoy's old stuff identical. I really appreciate that. I thought the same thing about Dramatic Turn of Events. Lifeless is a good description for the sound quality. Not sure how they botched up the sound mixing so bad on that one. But yeah Illumination Theory live is very impressive. From the orchestra to the choir to the crowd cheers mixed in, it sounds very powerful.

Oh, and yes, that Dragonforce album is really solid and fun, screw the haters.

They certainly have a way of composing the most catchy rifs.

I went to college with the drummer, they're okay but too generic for my tastes.

Sucks to hear ex-Death member Scott Clendenin died. simply awesome performance on The Sound of Perseverance, Spirit Crushers bass intro is up there with the very best. R.I.P.

Wow, that's awful news. The bass lines on that album are excellent; I actually was able to play the intro to Spirit Crusher on Bass; great times.

RIP

I feel like people connected to Death have had unusually bad luck with serious medical issues. I love SoP, and his playing was a big part of it.

This made me check in on James Murphy and apparently he's still doing well after his brain tumor. shit is heartbreaking.

Fiio makes some very affordable ones that sound way better than they have any right to for their price range

Dude, if I meet you someday, you will get a beer or ten, because this Fiio E10k is a blast and it saved all sound issues on my PC. Plus the sound on my Sennheiser HD 518 headphones is far far faaar better than it was before

glad to hear it man. I've got several amps but the one I keep coming back to is a Fiio which is actually (tied for) the cheapest one I own. hard not to recommend for the price/quality ratio.

Hey MetalGaf, just found this thread.

Any fans of between the buried and me? They're my favorite group. Can't wait for the new album.

After really getting into them this year, they are one of my new favorite Metal bands. I honestly have a bit of trouble deciding which albums I like best. Not into their first two albums, though.

Favorite album from them?

Also....

Immortal is no more

http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/abbath-puts-immortal-to-rest-launches-new-band/

That's too bad. Having said that, were they still making good albums? I didn't listen to their latest album.

I'm definitely a fan. Parallax II is one of the best metal albums in a long while.

I'd probably rank their albums in exact reverse order as far as my favorites, so the new one has me pretty excited.

Favorite album would have to be "colors". To me that's 64 minutes of nonstop pure musical genius. They are so talented that it blows my mind.

Glad there are some other BTBAM fans here.

Audiotopsy might be the worst band name I've ever heard in my life.

Autopsy with Dio in it

what could possibly go wrong with that?

I'll show myself out now :)

In other news I must admit that Napalm Death new album Apex predator is a strong contender for album of the year already.

Gonna attend Paganfest later today. Apparently, it's sold out. And from what I remember, the venue is pretty small, so it's gonna be really cramped.

Cool, I've been to the Munich show yesterday. Turisas positively surprised me; last time I saw them they were quite boring but yesterday they delivered :)

I like The Haunted, Devildriver, Lamb of God, Arch Enemy, In Flames, Killswitch Engage, Silent Civilian, Slipknot, Tool and Trivium. Am I allowed in here?

Yeah, I think you make the grade with a few of those bands. B- (JK)

Agonia Records is having a $3 sale on all of their digital releases until 4/1. I think I am gonna get Aosoth album and the Stench record. Anything else that is worth grabbing at $3?
