The Metal Thread |OT2| All Riffs, No Gifs

Holy crap, that Ghost show last night in London was fucking spectacular. Best show I've been to in years. Amazing. Now I want more. I WANT MORE GHOST SHOWS D:

Now you're hooked, man.

Did people faint?

Didn't see anyone faint, but on Cerise, Papa took the hand of a girl in the front row and lifted her up on stage. "Can't you see that you're lost without me"

If I was that girl I'd have a fucking heart attack and just die on the spot. Also never wash my hand. She probably won't.

Next show for me is Avantasia next week. I was really hyped about it, but after this Ghost show.... let's say it's a hard thing to top.

Master of Puppets is 30 years old today......... It is officially "classic rock".

Scary,

Speaking of 30 year old albums, 1986 was a pinnacle year for metal.

Metalica - Master of Puppets
Megadeth - Peace Sells…But Who's Buying
Anthrax - Among The Living
Dark Angel - Darkness Descends
King Diamond - Fatal Portrait
Candlemass - Epicus Doomicus Metallicus
Kreator - Pleasure To Kill
Sodom - Obssessed By Cruelty
Destruction - Eternal Devastation
Voivod - Rrroooaaarrr
Assassin - The Upcoming Terror
Iron Maiden - Somewhere In Time
Fates Warning - Awaken The Guardian
Slayer - Reign In Blood
Metal Church - The Dark
Onslaught - The Force
Possessed - Beyond The Gates

All of it still sounds fresh like it was just yesterday.

pretty sure Among the Living is '87, but great one nonetheless. I always wanted to hear the deluxe remaster.

and speaking of Obsessed by Cruelty, a very cool 2LP edition is about to drop courtesy of Wax Maniax, who just put out the Eternal Nightmare reissue. It combines the both the original version, which Americans have been listening to for ages, and the re-recorded European version which by most accounts is the superior take and it includes "After the Deluge".

it releases March 25th. The distribution will be pretty good for this one so check your brick and mortar. Amazon has it up for pre-order as well. You can also order direct.

I'm partial to 87 myself but 86 is a monster. You forget these gems

Cyclone - Brutal Destruction
Deathrow - Riders of Doom
Angel Dust - Into the Dark Past
Whiplash - Power and Pain
Mysto Dysto - The Rules Have Been Disturbed
Exumer - Possessed by Fire
Kat - 666
Sentinel Beast - Depths of Death
Tankard - Zombie Attack
Flotsam and Jetsam - Doomsday for the Deceiver
Hallows Eve - Death & Insanity
Sepultura - Morbid Visions
Omen - The Curse
Crimson Glory - Crimson Glory
Salem's Wych - Betrayer of Kings
Turbo - Kawaleria Szatana
Flames - Merciless Slaughter
Sword - Metalized
Chastain - Ruler of The Wasteland
Helstar - Remnants of War
Sortilège - Larmes de héros
Black Fate - Commander of Fate

Tons more I should probably edit in later. Masterful year in metal

Cyclone! I have a beat up vinyl of that. Angel Dust - Into The Dark Past is damn killer too. Exumer! Running Wild in the middle of that somewhere. Fuck, Germany was on fire.

Yep, insane year. All of these haven't aged one bit, still amazing music and better than 99% of what comes out today (including metal releases).

But you and Bitnator disappoint me... ;) you forgot a very important and amazing 1986 release...

xD Kidding! I meant these of course:

86 was the year I was born so obviously that's the best year for metal :P

Also, Ulver's first three are getting reissued. Might have to pick these up.

I'd add Queensryche's Rage for Order. My personal favorite.

Manilla Road is a damn classic, how could I not put that.

Hexx - Under the Spell is another great release from 86, during the era of them being like Metal Church's little brother music wise

Another 86 classic.

The Accused and Cryptic Slaughter both released great crossover records too. And while it wasn't actually released as an album until 89, the fact that Repulsion's Horrified was recorded (and nearly released) in 86 still blows my mind.

I was going to make a post highlighting the new release. It is my most anticipated album is years, they are the most important thrash band of the new era in my opinion

Absolutely. They're the best new-school thrash band going right now. I don't state this lightly, either. They've become one of my all-time favorite thrash metal bands, period. Sci-Fi or Die. :]

A month or so ago, Spotify Discovery recommended me Bloody Hammers.

I've been kind of obsessed with them since then. I don't even know how I never knew about them... it's awesome. If you know anything similar, occult-themed (apart from Ghost) do share. Seems like I've been missing out on some Satanic rituals and witches.

Good day for new music.

Ripper – Experiment of Existence lives up to its bands name. Very prominent bass and reminds me a lot of Frank Bello or Dave Ellefson in that regard. Some heavy thrashers here.

Myrath – Legacy is a total shock to me. I read they were power metal and thought cool I will check that out but their more a progressive power metal orchestra experience. This, THIS is what Dream Theater should be and not that lame ass ballad generator they are. Love the mix too. The orchestra is subtle and not harsh.

Still can't listen to the new Anthrax on Play. Album only has two songs but the songs I've heard so far didn't really do anything for me. So meh...

For fans of Lost Horizon (vocalist is on this album), definitely check out this album. Knew when I listened to it something sounded familiar, only to find out it was indeed the vocalist on those 2 Lost Horizon albums. Album is pretty great, pretty much Kamelot + Lost Horizon.

I found myself in a video from the Nightwish concert in Montreal. Surreal to see myself rockin out in the massive crowd, and right near the front, too!

Suddenly glad I wore a bright blue shirt that day! lol

6:00 to 6:25 in the video - I kind of lost control of myself I was so damned excited. I was definitely jumping around a bit more than a lot of people around me, lol.

Listening to this right now and it's really hitting the spot:

https://wolvserpent.bandcamp.com/album/aporia-k-la-ananta

Three years after the release of the highly-acclaimed Perigaea Ankhatarhana, Idaho duo WOLVSERPENT returns with Aporia:Kāla:Ananta, an epic single-song composition that spans 40 minutes of boundary-pushing experimentation. Blending the poignancy and atmosphere of classical music, folk and drone with the drive and aggression of doom, black, and death metal, WOLVSERPENT achieves levels of dynamic contour, innovation, and progression over the course of this single continuous song that are rarely found in any genre. Minimal yet incomparably dense, Aporia:Kāla:Ananta is harrowing, spontaneous, and measured journey of diverse sonic textures, pummeling metallic heaviness, highly emotive violin, and intriguing field recordings.

First time here, I think (I drink a lot)

Been listening to a shitload of metal lately though. Got into Gojira late last year, found out about Avantasia and Eluvetie (whose name I can't bother to look up the proper spelling for (folk metal for you huh?)) this year, finally got around to checking out Lamb of God, and right now am jammin' to Equilibrium.

Oh, and I was at one of those Nightwish concerts last week!

But mostly here to share the new All Hail the Yeti tune

Before the Flames

Being honest, I usually avoid big metal threads like these because my tastes tend to hit more mainstream routes which don't always win me favors D: Hoping to scroll through and find some new bands I've never heard of though. THus far 2015 was a good year for that, and 2016 is already starting off damn well.

Being a sucker for older Katatonia (Rapture, Daylight Dies, etc) I like to see October Tide is still putting out new material. And nice to hear Normann brothers in action.

Also, the new Cult of Luna track sounds sublime. This is probably old, but you can newer have enough Cult of Luna ;)
