Great film

This one from Grave of the Fireflies is up there:

Actually there are a bunch of really powerful scenes in that movie.

Oh God it's all coming back :'(

Absolutely iconic

I'd say Amore, but I wouldn't be able to pic any one scene, the whole thing is incredible (while I guess you could accuse Haneke of being overly clinical or academic in his other films I think bits of Cache and the White Ribbon could probably qualify too). Same with Synecdoche, New York.

Also:
The end of Before Sunset
The end of Casablanca
Shame
That first scene in IB was absolute perfection.

Like all the other Movie/TV show threads, I love the people who just post a screenshot with no text, no movie name, no context, nothing. And just expect everyone else to know what they are talking about.

How about you not post at all? Cause posts like that are fucking worthless.

Return of the King has a bunch of these.

1) When Frodo tells Sam that he can't help him anymore, and tells him to go home.
2) When Faramir obeys his father's wishes and launches the small skirmish against the small city by the river (name?), all set to Pippin's sad song
3) And of course when Sam carries Frodo up the mountain

The feels.

Perfection

Also,
4) When Frodo has to leave on the boat with the elves. I freaking cry like a baby every time.

Completely agree with the intro to Inglourious Basterds, it was utterly chilling. So many other scenes from films that have been posted I agree with - the girl in the red coat from Schindler's List, the critic's reaction to eating the signature dish of Ratatouille, the intro to Up, and so many more.

Several people have posted scenes from Prince of Egypt, and I agree with them, but there are others that haven't been posted that should have been. Such a great film, and such a shame that Dreamworks acts as if it doesn't exist - there isn't even a blu ray release, which is a crying shame for a film with some of the most beautiful animation out there, even today. Unfortunately, most of the clips I could find were in 240P quality, which means they look shit. So I'm sorry about that.

The Nightmare - After meeting Miriam and Aaron who tell him of his birth, Moses has a nightmare about Egyptian soldiers killing Hebrew infants. After this he speaks to his father, Seti, to try and find the truth for himself. Seti tells him that the Hebrews were becoming too numerous, that he made the decision. When Moses is horrified, Seti says that "they were only slaves".

The Plagues - Rameses refuses to let the Hebrews go, so Egypt is stricken with plagues. I love the lyrics, Moses points out that the innocent are being hurt - "All the innocent who suffer from your stubbornness and pride", while Rameses strengthens his resolve - "...never mind how high the cost may grow, this will still be so: I will never let your people go." The voice of God chants over and over, "I send my scourge, I send my sword", hitting Egypt with plague after plague.

After this, Moses goes to him while the land is in cover of darkness and warns him that something "terrible" is coming, something much worse. They share a moment, where both brothers wish they weren't on opposing sides. Rameses' son appears then and asks his father why he's talking to Moses, blaming him for all their troubles. Rameses grows cold and promises a repeat of Seti's slaughter. Moses looks down on Rameses' son, realising what is to come, and tells Rameses that he brings this next plague upon himself.

Death of the First Born - The final plague. Nothing more needs to be said.

There are many powerful moments in this film, but these three tie so well together.

I know I've made some very poor decisions recently, but I can give you my complete assurance that my work will be back to normal. I've still got the greatest enthusiasm and confidence in the mission. And I want to help you.

Dave, stop. Stop, will you? Stop, Dave. Will you stop, Dave? Stop, Dave. I'm afraid. I'm afraid, Dave.

This was the exact scene I came to post in this thread. It just crushes me every time.

My contribution: the collapse of the dome over the grand staircase in Titanic. The shot of the women pinned against the pole as the water crushes her from behind....the entire sequence just leaves me in awe each time.

I will never ever watch this again, i felt sick after that movie.

A lot of great scenes mentioned in this thread. I recently re-watched Sansho the Bailiff, and the ending had me in tears; I had forgotten just how powerful it is, so my answer is that.

Waterworks every time.

Yes, first movie scene that ever really made me emotional, back when that kind of thing could still happen to me. Seeing in the theater didn't really hit me that hard, although I was sad. But years later, after meeting a good friend who very very strongly reminded me of Jenny, that scene hit me powerfully because I could see this friend going that same exact route in life.

It's more of a shot than a scene, but I watched Pierrot le Fou last night and Anna Karina looking at the camera really had an impact on me, I was like "whoa". She's got that face. she looks like sh'es look at you personally.

Maybe not the most powerful in cinematic history but certainly the most impactful on me personally.

So many good ones already listed. Off the top of my head that haven't been posted:

Driving Miss Daisy ending - I cry everytime he picks up the fork to help her eat.

Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf - Burgin & Water - Richard Burton is mesmerizing here. Shame he did not get the Oscar for this role.

Somewhere in Time ending - Love story + Time travel + Rachmaninov = Me weeping every time.
