The Muppets - ABC Official Trailer

Looks like a lot of fun to me. I was far too young to see the original Muppet show, so I'll be happy to get in on the ground floor with this one.

Thank you.

What's up with the voices? Could they not get Frank Oz? Or Steve Whitmire?

IIRC, Frank was offended that they were continuing without Jim or something like that, so he distanced himself from our favorite TV puppet pals starting from the 2011 movie.

No clue about Steve, though.

Oz retired from performing with The Muppets in the early 2000's. But he had performed in pretty much everything throughout the whole 90's even though Jim had passed. Thoughout that time and even before Jim passed, Oz was more focused on directing.

Oz pretty much only Directs now and performs a few select characters a few times a year for stuff like Sesame Street.

If you really think about it, The Muppet Show was like one of the earliest "reality" shows -- showing what goes on behind the scenes. Updating it this way makes perfect sense.
You mean it was a rip off of the Jack Benny shiw which was a "show within a show"

Something about this seems wrong to me. I don't know if it's Kermit swearing, or them using like actual adult humor, or the voices sounding so completely off, or how cynically self aware it seems? But it just seems weird.

Like, I'd consider the original Muppet Show to be for adults but it didn't go out of its way to BE adult. This has weird sex jokes and drug jokes and swearing.

And Muppets have always been delightfully self aware but something about this feels like... I dunno mean spirited? Or like it's taking the self awareness too far?

Can't quite put my finger on it but I don't like it. I'll watch it, of course, I love the Muppets and want to give it a fair chance, but something about this trailer made me sad.

The uploader has not made this video available in your country.

Yup, same here/ And I get ABC as part of my basic cable package....

yeah, outside of the US, the trailer is here and watchable

Modern Family with Muppets- could be great.

Oh thanks. I guess this should be expected for a new Muppets show, but was was hoping they would go back to the classic 70's variety show format.

Hasn't self-awareness/fourth wall breaking always been a thing with the Muppets? Though I don't think it was done in an as cynical way though.

Still, I think this show looks like it could be good, even if it's a pretty big departure from what the Muppets is normally like.

I'm watching. Loved the Muppets since I was a kid and still do. The trailer got a laugh out of me a few times too. Can't wait!

I am shocked at the Kermit voice being off comments still happening.

Steve Whitmere has been Kermit for over 25 years now, across 7 films and multiple television series and countless specials.

Well yeah, then he sounds off here. That doesn't change it.

That's the thing, he sounds here like Kermit has sounded for the last 25 years. Kermit sounds exactly like he'd be expected to. It's Steve Whitmere's Kermit, not Jim Henson's.
I dunno maybe it's since I haven't heard it since Most Wanted was in theatres, but I find it off too.

Edit: Maybe the pitch?

I'm really excited to watch this when it comes to the UK.

Remember watching the Muppet Show when it originally aired back in the day and even Muppets Tonight was pretty decent, so more Muppets regularly on TV is only ever a good thing!

Hopefully Rizzo makes an appearance at some point, but give me plenty of the Swedish Chef and hopefully a Lou Zealand cameo or two and I'll be a happy camper!

It's almost time to start the music and light the lights...

It's something wrong with the YouTube video. I just watched the international one and although Rolf and Fozzie still sound a little strange to me, everyone else sounded totally fine.

Are all the understudies doing the voices or something? Because most of them sound off.

I am still baffled by posts like this. All the characters are performed by their main performers in this video, all of which have been their main performers for nearly 15 years. Steve Whitmere took over for Kermit and the like in 1990. Eric Jacobson took over for Frank Oz in 2001.

Hell, Gonzo has had the same performer since day 1.

I'm fully aware of who has been playing who since the deaths of Henson, Nelson, Hunt and Juhl (as well as Oz' retirement) being a huge Henson fan.

I said they sounded off, and I meant it.

I liked the look of it, plus I fucking love the Muppets.

Top 3:
1) Fozzie
2) Fozzie
3) Fozzie.

Fozzie is king.

Looks great, will set the DVR.

I hope sometime in the show Kermit will casually drop the "but that's none of my business" line while sipping some iced tea. lol

Are you watching using link from this post to watch the trailer?

Found mirror for international viewers:

Because the pitch is really off in that upload. The official upload is fine. If you're using the official upload, I don't know what to tell you, cause the voice seems fine to me.

If you think this is going over the line, Muppets Tonight was far worse.

I'm not against adult jokes, and I'm not against (smart, or at least funny) adult jokes in the Muppets, but Miss Piggy faking an orgasm just goes too far for me. Muppets Tonight really was a bit of a mess with that stuff, they were trying way too hard. There was also that recurring Baywatch parody with the Pamela Anderson-pig with the giant boobs that the other characters kept drooling over. There was nothing there except for the shockvalue of a Muppet with boobs.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the moment were some of the older puppeteers gave up on the Muppets.

This new show looks very tame compared to some of the stuff in that old show.

None of the core performers gave up after Muppets Tonight, it was about 5 years after that that Frank Oz retired. The rest of the core group remains together outside of Jerry Nelson who passed away a few years back.

I dont see whats 'off' about kermits voice at all. Just recently watched most wanted too. Nothings changed.

Edit: Yall must be watching the international trailer. Pitch is waaaaaay off. Terrible.

Kermit is stuck on the 405 and the band is legally happy?

Would be sweet if this took place around seattle.

One of my favorite RC sketches

Overall it looks fantastic. Though that was the first ever Statler and Waldorf line I've not laughed at. Still, looks so good.

Is there a 405 in Seattle? Pretty sure he was on the infamous 405 in Los Angeles, well-known for traffic nightmares. And people smoke marijuana pretty much in the open now in LA. So it's probably Los Angeles, especially given the "B-star reality show" concept.
