From Wikipedia:

"However, Gervais, Crystal, Kunis and several other cameos including Beth Broderick,[11] George Clooney,[43] Lady Gaga,[44] Kathy Griffin,[45] Ed Helms,[13] Sterling Knight,[46] Mila Kunis,[47] Ben Stiller,[43] Eric Stonestreet,[13] Wanda Sykes[12] and Danny Trejo[11][13] were completely omitted out of the film for unknown reasons."

That's a lot of money spent getting them there, yet not using them. Most definitely will be on the BluRay release though.

Segel said the first cut of the film was over 3 hours long, so makes complete sense.

I WANT I WANT I WANT

Seeing it tomorrow, expect good things. I love the show and all the other movies. Trying to decide whether to watch Great Muppet Caper or some of the old episodes of the show to warm up... or maybe Muppets Take Manhattan.

The film shares the most relevance with the original TV series and the first film in terms or inspiration.

Just got back from the theaters! I absolutely loved it. There were only a couple of scenes that rubbed me the wrong way (
the rap song and the Amy Adams/Miss Piggy song
), but other than that it was great.

Oh man, how could you not ilke
the rap song?
Its utter ridiculousness fit in perfect with the rest of the film.

I want this in the worst way now

I personally would love to know what the original plot of the film was. Supposedly they had to cut back immensely once they found out that their budget was going to be a fraction of what they were expecting. (Paraphrasing, read this in a WIRED article, I can go pull it and get an exact quote if necessary)

I'm fine with a lack of Rizzo. I like him, but not having him that much isn't a deal breaker. BUT IS PEPE THERE?!?!

Rizzo receives no speaking lines, although I think his rat family does. Rizzos screen time is under a minute w/ no mention or call out. Tad weird since he was pushed to the forefront in the '90's.

I'm sure (well, hoping) Segal will elaborate on it in an extra on the Blu-Ray. I still think him and everyone else did an amazing job of keeping the spirit of the original show and movie completely in tact. The homages to the Muppets history were great for old nd new fans alike.

Based Segal!

WHAT ABOUT PEPE!?!?!

Found this tonight. Yay!

Great movie! My son and I really enjoyed it, and there was a lot for both someone new to the the Muppets and an old-timer to get out of it. But by the end I wanted to punch that Cars 2 billboard in the nose.

Really good TS short before the film as well!

Saw the movie tonight and absolutely loved it. My favorite part besides
the touching group rendition of The Rainbow Connection
was
Gonzo at first acting all dismissive and cold then all of a sudden freaking out in joy and gleefully blowing up his own business. "I've been wearing this under my suit all these years!!!!!" lol That part almost had me in tears.
Oddly, the only part of the movie which I didn't really think worked was
Jack Black playing himself yet...he no longer wants to rock and is trying to convince Animal...to be mellow and zen like and....stop drumming? Uh ok.
Speaking of which.....

GOOD! I'll catch 'em on the blu ray extras, glad that the editor and director were able to see that the movie was awesome and special without 'em. The only two that wouldn't have come off as an annoying "Hey, look at me! I'm a celebrity making a 'trendy self aware' appearance in a kids movie!" would've been Gervais and Ed Helms. And hearing Wanda Syke's ear peelingly awful fake "sassy" voice in over the theater sound system or Kathy Griffin trying to mug it up and Stiller thinking he's funny just by being an irritated spaz collectively would've given me a borderline aneurism. The Muppets and Sesame street have always had lots of celebrity cameos (which they often do a much better job of handling than even other shows like the Simpsons) but that list would have been overkill.

I absolutely lost it at the
self-destruct remote
.

Are the two old men in the movie too?

They're in several scenes.

Also, I'm soooo happy the Swedish Chef got a lot of screen time. He was always my favorite Muppet :3

And Kermit and the gang and all the employees fleeing in terror while Gonzo is all happy and excited for the bomb to go off, LOL

Yep, Statler and Waldorf are in it and are killer as always although they could have had a few more lines. If you want to see something hilarious, YouTube "Milton Berle vs. Statler and Waldorf." One of the greatest heckling scenes EVER.

Had the most awesome and surreal time at the movie. I saw it at the El Capitan in Hollywood. They started with a Christmas sing-along with Kermit and Ms. Piggy Live. Tons of Muppets fans bring their hand-made puppets and What-Nots (custom Muppets you can buy).

What was so surreal was the setting of the movie.
One of the main settings of the movie was the Muppets Studio/Theater which was the El Capitan itself! The Muppet theater in the movie is the same theater I'm watching the movie in! Even the big final number takes place just outside the El Capitan on Hollywood Blvd. Crazy!

Can't believe I haven't got out to see this quite yet. I was a bit unsure in the middle there, but with the glowing reviews I'm ridiculously hyped. Are there any early reports yet? I really hope this doesn't tank.

I was so looking forward to seeing this, then I finally noticed that the Orange advert before films in the UK cinemas shows Feb 2012 in the UK! NOOOoo...!!!

That sounds amazing.

I went to a late 9:50 show last night. There weren't many people at the theater complex to begin with (ripping tickets at the door to a 15 theater cineplex), but our theater was about 1/4th full, all adults. One of the guys right behind us had a what-not of himself. We're about as far as Hollywood as you can get. =)

Man or Muppet
was probably my favorite part of the film, besides all the nostalgia bait bits.

Lady Gaga was cut ?

That show some "cojones" from the directors !

I saw this movie today and there's one thing that's bothering me.

Who is the muppet that resembles a president or someone? Looks like a human muppet (not an animal), dressed in a suit, white hair, but doesn't say any lines. He appears in a few scenes with all the other muppets during the show's preparation.

I just want to know if he's supposed to resemble a famous person, or if he's just a random muppet I've never seen before. And maybe a name.

One of the negative rottentomatoes "reviews" basically just says there isn't much for mom and dad in the movie, not even really a review at all http://www.chicagoreader.com/chicago/MovieTimes?oid=4924553

Do they mean "mom and dad" as parents or as older people, because the first half of the film is almost exclusively '70s and '80s pop culture jokes.

With that said, this movie was something else. I loved it. In fact, I had to fight to not get all emotional at just about everything Kermit ever does or says in the film, and the worst of that came
when he looks around the Muppet theater and literal echoes of The Muppet Show start reeling in. Then later on when the telethon finally starts I realize I'm watching the fucking Muppet Show on a giant movie screen like a new episode.

Saw this with the whole family and liked it a lot. The humor was great overall and wasn't lame easy laugh stuff. Gonzo's first scene was hilarious.

Movie was great. I will probably see it again before it leaves theaters. Only bad thing it needed more Sam the Eagle.

I just got back from it and had a great time, it's what a modern day family film should be. Also, really enjoyed the Toy Story short beforehand. I gotta go buy some Muppet Show dvds on amazon now.
Disney should really find a better way to advertise Cars 2 though.

My wife and I saw this at the Cinerama in Seattle last night with some friends. One couple brought their 2 1/2 year daughter, it was her first film. She behaved perfectly and loved the film.

As for us adults who grew up on the Muppet Show and the old movies, we all enjoyed it. I remember reading early impressions talking about how the film was dumbed down with toilet humor... my thoughts on it below:

I thought the way Segal and Stoller handled the fart shoes was perfect and necessary. Fozzie wanted them in the telethon, but no one else cared nor did they think they were funny. I found this to be a great commentary on out of touch execs at Disney wanting to incorporate fart jokes into the film when it's childish and unnecessary.
