"The perpetrator was known by the police" is such a standard thing these days. Every attack, every stabbing in western countries ends with this knowledge. Recently a 16 year old German girl was pushed in front of a train by an Iraqi asylum seeker, also known for his aggressive behavior.

If this girl were black, brown, etc. and a white personal stabbed her or shot her, people would call it racist but when a person of color stabs or shoots a white person, let's protect the killers cuz it might "make people racist".

In Canada, the gov doesn't release crime stats involving race. They purposely withhold that back but willingly tell other crime stats.
They do that because some groups of people will show they got totally inflated crime stats compared to everyone else and it looks bad so they want to try to minimize its effect in perception and reality,
To see some race crime stats you got to go back like 30 years when some data was released.
In Toronto metro area, there's low crime compared to many big US cities, but all you got to do is check CP24 and see what daily crime and arrests happened that day and it skews heavy to one group of people. Been like this forever since their tv channel and web page have been up for decades. Anytime the story has to do with drugs, gangs, Jane/finch, drive by, jewelry store robbed you already know who it'll be without even reading the whole article.

More change is coming. I jokingly call it the reverse-wokening because we will revert changes put in place due to false narratives.
This story is directly connected to everything that happened in the summer of 2020. We defunded the police, we implemented moronic soft on crime policies, police across the country wear body cameras now, we elected ideologically driven leaders. And other than body cams (which shattered narratives about rampant mistreatment) it's been disastrous.

He's a big investor guy, so there must be some link why he's big on soft crime for a way to make money. Maybe he thinks more chaos brings more sales for guns and prisons or whatever products he's invested in. I don't know

They got to try minimizing it because it looks bad if it's all in full display as daily news.
But like the past few years how woke, DEI and mainstream media is getting grilled and losing viewers, these kind of situations are actually good for the right. Not good in terms of the victims of course, but good for voting as there's been strong voting for more right winners, or at minimum getting more seats even if they still lose an election.
The general public sees through this shit more and more. So when mainstream media which are mostly left leaning cover up and then get exposed later it just makes people distrust them more making them lean right more.
It's an easy cycle to understand but oddly the left keeps doubling down in it instead of trying to skew more central. It's nuts.

I am never shocked by the names I read or the pictures of the criminals I see but hey let's allow more in cuz that's fun.
Canada is a different world….i wasn't born here but have lived here a long time. I was able to walk by myself at 3am in high school from my friend's house to mine which was a 30 minute walk. I'd cut through the back of a school that had little lighting, walked by a group of guys hanging out at the park who didn't cat call or approach me or anything, sometimes would take a different route and walk through a forest where I could see lit up cigarettes dancing in the dark of people just hanging out, no one locked the front door, we just closed the screen and didn't worry, just a great time and no fear. Of course it's not to say shit didn't happen in the world but it just wasn't really a thing in my area.
The last whatever years, I wouldn't dare walk in the night alone….let alone walk in the night, period. A guy followed on a park path and I wasn't even alone plus it was daylight. We noticed him looking at us as we walked (we kept looking back) and any way we went, so did he. He only stopped because we hurried to the street where it was busy with cars and he finally looked away and went the opposite direction. Not far away, someone last year I believe was following women and putting bags over their heads as they walked and tried kidnapping them. Same people, different day.

I think the federal government is being cowardly by not bringing hate crime charges, but they have at least brought charges which carry the death penalty.

They tried to cover it up, supported by the media and now it's starting to fall onto their feet.
Every time someone is murdered in Germany you have people standing up against the right.
I live in Charlotte. When it happened, it was mainly covered by the local news and reddit/X with rumors/gossip/first-hand accounts. Not much was released to the public immediately aside from a woman was stabbed and killed, and a potential suspect was detained. One of the bigger things the local news and commenters were wondering was why this wasn't being picked up on a national scale. Maybe since Charlotte isn't really a small city, but also not as big as the main cities that usually generate all the coverage? Maybe there wasn't enough concrete info to cause the usual sensational headlines? It blew up once the video was released in snippets and then full detail. The background of the people involved and the situation would further be ripe for any political side to use as ammo. It went full blast since you see what would be a normal day and usage of public transportation. It then escalates instantly to the guy immediately stabbing a completely innocent stranger that had no ties to each other (that we know of).
As usual, it's now being leveraged on every political side. Everyone believes they know why this happened and everyone believes they know the solution. I drive, so I never used public transportation here mostly. This will likely tank public transportation participation until they demonstrate to the public how horrible events like this can be prevented.
I didn't watch the video, but only saw the images from the articles and the description of the events as they happened. It's fucking horrible. To see those images of her in fear and crying is horrible. I want to yell at those people around her for not helping, but my assumption is most of them would act like most people wrapping their day up, likely in drift mode. Not many people are going to be in defensive/alert mode for what should have been a routine usage of public transportation.
I understand there is the bystander effect. Most people likely would watch in horror, freeze up as they don't know what to do in situations like that, or possibly they just didn't care enough to help. I just hope there weren't many just recording with their phones when that shit happened - they would be considered trash in my opinion. I feel that is worse than the bystander effect. It's also easy to say you would have saved the day, but those people likely don't realize how fast/quick shit like that happens. Unless you have legit experience in events like that consistently, you really won't know what you will actually do in a situations like that (for better or worse).

I used to take public transportation years ago and there are certainly scary people on it. Thankfully never killers, at least that I know of….but more often than not there were people on it mumbling to themselves, which would sometimes get louder, once there was a religious nut on there rambling incoherent stuff and then he'd start asking people if they believe in god and if they said no, he'd preach by practically yelling at them, he went on about how sports are useless and you learn nothing unlike religion, etc. I hated taking the bus but didn't have a choice at the time. I'll never take a bus ever again. The video showed this guy rocking a bit back and forth and you can see him mumbling. It was a scary reminder of the types of people I saw.

The first notable article from the legacy press I saw was from Axios on the 8th, framing it as a story mainly about "MAGA" acting nefariously rather than the girl's murder:
Wikipedia editors also attempted to delete the Wikipedia article about it circa Sept 7th on the basis that it didn't have notable coverage from mainstream sources, despite it being the biggest story on social media.
Of course, if the legacy press is intentionally suppressing coverage then notability via the legacy press becomes an impossible benchmark to pass.
But, it escalated to the White House and was disseminated by The Free Press et al throughout yesterday and has become an international story over the past 24 hours.

I've never bought into the whole 'insanity defense' thing though. When it comes to murder of a random person you don't even know who didn't even so much as look at you, who cares how crazy the person is? Just put him down. It is what it is. Why would I want this person to get a lesser punishment than someone with a seemingly more rational reason to murder someone?

The DOJ doesn't want to take a chance on this not ending in a conviction. If the defense proved that "hate" was not the primary reason for the murder, they could get an aquittal. You really don't want to give the defense anything to work with here.

Do we though? The world is full of evil things, as is expected from a population of 7 billion people. In Ukraine and Gaza there are daily reports of kids being shelled to pieces.
