The mythical Foreman Grill - Tell me more about it, GAF

I had one. Took alot of space on my counter and I was wondering why I was using it instead of the stove..
I still use it for grilled cheese though. Its great for that.

I have one. It was alright. The thing is, I had the ones with the removable plates, and it still kinda a pain to clean compared to a pan. I think is easier to clean the pan. But you do have to clean the stove though.

I just wish it got hotter, like way hotter. I don't use it much anymore. I just use my nonstick pan or my cast iron pan.

Maybe I should get one, since I'm allowed to have heat-producing appliances in my suite at college next year.

Any better recommendations, GAF? I'm thinking a hot-plate will be my most versatile option.

I've been checking those halogen ovens and they look quite interesting, although I suspect they are a bit too much for a single dude.

Get one with removable plates, you can then just stick them in the dishwasher after use, it makes the whole thing much easier to clean.

I like the Hamilton Beach model better. You can take the plates out and put them in the dishwasher. There is a grease tray that comes out and you can wash that too.

Really great for chicken breasts and brats/sausages. Does okay with turkey/beef burgers. Not so great for pork/fish/steak.

I would highly recommend them if you are going to be doing a lot of chicken breasts.

Trivia...

The company that created the "Foreman" Grill was having difficulty selling them so they sought out a spokesperson and found Mr. Foreman. At the time, they were simply hoping to sell more than what they'd been doing but (as everyone knows) it sold like mad.

Foreman and his agent had originally negotiated a "per-unit" royalty so that he got a little bit of money for every item sold. The problem was that so damn many of them sold that it was a ridiculous amount of money he was making for the first year or two under his name. The company eventually renegotiated the contract and paid GF (approx) 135 million dollars for the right to use his name and likeness for the lifetime of the product.

Honestly this thing is just as important as the micro wave and stove for me. I cant picture life without one, it's a necessity at this point.
Clean up can be a bitch though.

My current one is a real mess. I tend to try and scrap away at the crud while it's hot but cleaning that top part of leaves a mess all over the place.

If you're living in an apartment that isn't always possible. But I've always been interested in trying this product.

That is probably the most amazing thing I have ever seen. Can't find anyone that sells them in the UK, anyone want to order one on my behalf so I can enjoy some BBQ goodness?

I actually was given one as a gift like eight years ago and have never bothered to plug it in. which is weird because I can't cook. I should give it a try because I'm trying to eat more healthy. How is it when cooking fish like Salmon?

Foreman Grills are overpriced and underpowered. There are better and cheaper alternatives for a contact grill. I'd first suggest that you don't use too much heat when using a skillet, though.

From Wikipedia:

In the VH1 Show Hogan Knows Best, Hulk Hogan claimed that he was offered the contract for the grill first, but missed his agent's phone call because he was "picking up the kids", and thus missed out on the endorsement. Instead, he endorsed a Hulk Hogan blender. lol

I've got the Cuisinart griddler which is way better then the foreman one. The top grill is on a pivot so it can go flat on your food cooking both sides properly and the plates are removable (and dishwasher friendly) making cleaning far easier then the foreman one.

Electric stove-tops unfortunately seem to be the norm from what I've seen in America...it is extremely easy to use too much heat on a pan.

My house has a gas stove and I'm never going back to electric. EVER.

I no longer have one, but when I did it was the greatest bacon making device ever invented. No curling bacon, grease collected in a tray for saving or disposal and easy clean up. Pretty terrible for actual cooking, but for bacon that thing was amazing.

ALL the dishes I posted on GAF were prepared on electric stovetops, it depends on practice. even electric stovetops have more settings than "Off" and "Nuke".

I use something like this for hot dogs and brat and burgers (and pancakes/eggs/bacon since it has a griddle too), but for steak/porkchops/etc, I use a frying pan.

Just my personal preference. I'm not suggesting you can't prepare an amazing meal on electric. Just saying it's incredibly easy to overheat with electric as you mentioned.

I don't think it's as successful with Hogan's name.
