The Naked Gun appreciation thread

I decided to re-watch The Naked Gun series-I think they're some of the funniest movies ever. That said-as an adult there's so many jokes that I've caught that flew over my head as a kid-like this one:

Jane: How could you do something so vicious?
Vincent Ludwig: It was easy my dear. You forget, I spent two years as a building contractor.

Naked Gun, Top Secret, Airplane, Hot Shots etc. will never not make me laugh. I giggle like a child every time I watch them.

my father and I watched it every time it was on TV

One of the few good memories I've of my childhood with him.

The tv series is better.

It avoids the transphobic joke on the third one, for example

Even if, for the standards of the time, it is a small transphobic joke, it is fast and the joke easily turns into him pucking on the instrument and fucking up the orchestra

"Drebin, I don't want any more trouble like you had last year on the south side. Understand? That's my policy."
"Yes. Well, when I see 5 weirdos dressed in togas stabbing a guy in the middle of the park in full view of 100 people, I shoot the bastards. That's my policy."
"That was a Shakespeare in the Park production of Julius Caesar, you moron! You killed 5 actors! Good ones!"

This exchange cracks me up all the time.

Love this series. Was just flipping through channels the other night and saw all 3 were on demand, so got through 1 and 2 1/2 in 1 sitting.

Just after that were he walks her up the steps has me laughing like a loon. Well the whole film does.

Man I miss Leslie Nielsen :(

Yeah I was blown away to learn it's been nearly 30 years since the first one-and this particular genre is just gone.

The closest thing i've seen in this style nowadays is Angie Tribeca.
Though i've only seen like 2 episodes.

The best trilogy ever. So glad the remake with Ed Helms apparently didn't pan out.

"Hey Frank! We got that D-83 Suregrip Swedish Suck Machine in that you ordered!"
"It's a gift."

When Nordberg gets shot and hes fumbling around the boat before falling over...I die every time.

These movies are the friggin best, some of my favorite comedies of all time.

A touch of Cloth is like a British version of Police Squad, see if you can check it out.

What gets me more is the guy who does actually drop his gun.

I've only seen the first season. A few of the jokes seem to drag on a lot longer than they would in The Naked Gun, but in general I thought it was pretty good.

Top Secret is one of my favorites movies (and I liked Airplane), but I don't know why I haven't watched The Naked Gun or Police Squad!. I should take care of this.

In case you didn't know its a reference to The Crying Game.
