The Naked Gun appreciation thread

Watched it last night for the first time in 10 or so years and it is still hilarious. Favorite gag was when Frank was frisking that guy and just reaching over into his partner's pockets. "Hey this guy has a picture of your wife!"

Thanks to this thread I rewatched Naked Gun 1, 3 (no 2 on Japanese Netflix), and Robin Hood: Men in Tights over the weekend.

All 3 were hilarious, but I really wish netflix here had NG2 and other Leslie's movies.

Jane: How could you do something so vicious?
Vincent Ludwig: It was easy my dear. You forget, I spent two years as a building contractor.

I don't get this (English is not my first language) and it's driving me crazy. Can someone please explain?

best gag ever is when following the final battle bad guy Robert Goulet survives the fall from a building and gets up and adjusts his tie and then a tiger leaps out of nowhere and devours him.

It's not completely out of nowhere, that's one of the bits I love about the film; it escaped from the zoo when Frank drove the tank into it.

I know it's fashionable to bring up Idris Elba for every role that's discussed, pretty much, but the guy can do comedy

Another who's better than you might possibly expect is Daniel Craig

Building contractors (construction) are extremely evil people.

100% confirmed, I've worked for one for a decade and love it HAR HAR HAR HARAAARARARARAR

Amazing series of movies, never fail to make me laugh.

Ha, this is hilarious!

It's missing the best part, where both of them run out of ammo at the same time. The bad guy throws his gun at Drebin and misses. Drebin throws his own gun back and gets up to run away, only to realize that he just knocked the bad guy out.

Some of my all time favorite opening credit sequences in movies. Loved the films as well, eve though part 3 was the weakest. So weird that OJ Simpson played the character Nordburg in these movies when looking at things in retrospect. I was a kid when I saw these movies originally, back then I had no idea who OJ Simpson was. I didn't even know that he played Football.

Also the original Police Squad TV show that these movies were based on are still great to watch as well.

Leslie Neilson was great as the straight arrow an always clueless Frank Drebin.

I was talking to my girlfriend about the Naked Gun movies the other night and that same type of Airplane!/30 Rock humor, and I got to thinking - are there any animated movies or shows that have this same kind of deadpan/sight gag/word play/slapstick humor, or does it not really work in that medium?

Animaniacs and Freakazoid I think come close at times.

Oooo that's very true, I completely forgot about those. Maybe Tiny Tunes too? She suggested Loony Tunes but that's more slapstick than word gags I feel? I mean there's probably some overlap but yeah Freakazoid and Animaniacs would be pretty good examples.
