The NeoGAF Streaming Channel Thread: (Where any gaffer can Stream!)

That's odd though, from my testing using OBS own capture gave me better performace.

180 fps on Zeno Clash with OBS capture and around 100 with OBS+Dxtory.

Maybe OBS just has a particular issue with whatever game you were trying. Some don't even work at all.

It very well could have been the game, but Far Cry 3 is the only one I've tried with OBS so far. I can tell you that I didn't have much success with PCSX2 last night (using dxtory) and OBS. I had audio sync issues there while playing the game. Changed over to ffsplit with dxtory and the audio was perfect. So, it seems like I'll be switching between these two until one of them is far enough in development to be able to avoid these issues.

OBS had this deal where it would disconnect and reconnect to twitch every few seconds. Don't know if that was a setting I unknowingly messed up, but it caused me to switch to FFsplit.

FFSplit works fantastically. The quality isn't quite where I want it, and I have to play games in borderless windowed mode to get it to work, but otherwise it's pretty good.

I also like ffsplit, but I think its interface could use a bit more polish as it still feels very "thrown together" by its appearance. As was recommended me to me, give dxtory a whirl with it as the quality will be a bit lower if you just use FFsource or the FFsplit overlay.

OBS I tried yesterday and it kept everything black, nothing was coming up at all but I'll try it again today ,maybe it was just the emulator

What am I doing wrong then? i went into global capture and put 9x as the window and everything still came up black, no display at all.

Did you happen to have other sources on the same scene? Maybe one disabled source was on top of the other

How it's set up:

well I have it on window capture and just on the snes one. Not chrome or anything else.

still seeing black in the stream preview

ok used the game capture [experimental] and the emu doesn't come up in applications

If your running 32bit version of the emulator you need the 32bit version of OBS.

Used Xsplit for a bit with my PS3>HDPVR to stream awhile back before it went into paid mode. Looking at the list, OBS looks like the best bet. Any particulars with an HDPVR I should worry about prior to using it? Also, what's a good program to allow multiple audio streams so I can attempt to have commentary during streams?

OBS lets you add 1 extra audio source in Settings > Audio, and you can control it with hotkeys or push-to-talk.

Well murph it seems to work pretty good.

I'll have to try it out with games off steam and off my Dazzle capture device next.

Bookmarked for future reference. Will need help getting the balance right so I don't get pixels all over the place. Think I'll probably have to get a better upload speed.

Hey, I've been trying to get my stream working properly for quite a while, but there seems to always be one problem, a pause. The stream will be running at a steady pace, but then all of the sudden a half second pause happens. The pause is only an anomaly of the stream not my actual game.
Here is a 30 minute clip of me streaming and trying to solve the issue.

Any help would be appreciated. Oh, I'm also using OBS.

Time stamps on some of those pauses?

An occasional half a second pause doesn't seem like that big a deal tbh :P Could just be connection hiccups.

Its perfect now, I think. Though, multiplayer streams are riddled with pings in the 900s. I think I might just stick to single player streams.

Well that's normal, you'll be using constantly most of your upload while streaming.

I usually go as low as 1500 if I want to play online. I have a similar upload speed as yours.

Didn't know a thread like this existed. I've been streaming for a whilel (mainly 360). Been doing it for a while and a few months ago upgraded to the Happuage HD PVR 2 from the original Happauge PVR. I find that it works great, and I currently have a XSplit license to go with it. Is OBS really that much better than Xsplit? Can't try and stream at the moment due to space constraints, but just curious to what makes it better (besides the fact that it's free).

As a side question: Is there any advantage to using the installed PCI cards (Black Magic Pro etc) versus standalone HD PVR boxes?

Remember that OBS and FFsplit are both in Alpha stage, so there are some issues with them. I'd say the compatibility is lower than Xsplit right now - I was able to stream everything with Xsplit and it just worked, while with FFsplit and OBS sometimes I have to stream with one over the other.

Even so, it's worth doing because both programs consume less resources for the same quality encode I had setup in Xsplit and I'm able to run games at higher FPS as a result. My audio also never suffers from the dreaded out-of-sync issue that Xsplit is prone to and overall I'm just happier with these programs than I was with Xsplit.

I recommend testing them out - try some local recordings with them and see how you like them.

I stream once a week usually at least. www.twitch.tv/slasherjpc. Close to 400 followers. I'll be sure to post in here when I'm doing just whatever games. I always post new games in their perspective threads. (example Far Cry 3 just came out, I post the link to that in the official thread)

I tried broadcasting from my dazzle device last night but the picture came out weird , a bunch of messed up lines on the bottom of the picture , I dont know why

That Sleeping Dogs stream had some great quality.

I have no experience with capture cards so I can't help you there. Sorry.

I would watch if you streamed iphone games. But youd have to play a game for at least an hour.

I'm pretty sure you're joking, but if I had the tools, I probably would. I could probably do it via Airplay, but I tested that before and it looked sort of like poo. But I had some free program that was only limited to 10 minutes.

If you're not joking, then oops. Weak troll either way :)

Sorry Metal, lol
