The New EGM[i] Preview Video

As long as it runs as smooth as that video shows then it should be fine. But im more excited for the actual print magazine. For me the great thing about a magazine, is that you can pick it up and read it anywhere, its easy on the eyes, and you feel like you own something. Websites, and magazines both have there benefits. But merging the two is something im gonna have to wait and see.

Since there will be a free version I'm interested in testing it out, but no way would I buy a sub based on the video. Seems like overkill... I just want to read text, not have to hunt around for different snippets.

You do know there will be a monthly print as well? Its not as if your paying for the digital version.

Seemed relatively cool, considering it's essentially free content with the purchase of a print sub - however, I want the print version to deliver because that's the reason I bought a subscription. Probably stupid of me; but I wanted to lend my support. Let's hope there's a lot more to come from EGM. I am excited to see what they've done.

Pretty cool how they are offering a basic free version. It would be nice if they have the lost issue away for free premium so people can see what it's all about.

Also, if more magazines do this with the iPad(Wired looks sick). It would definitely convince me to buy one.

I'm already susbscribed, but I'm not impressed by all the bells and whistles of their digital edition. It all just seems distracting to what I want to do: read the articles.

And they cant just use a website because?

I'm glad they aren't because I have about 20 years of reading EGM in my past and I want it to keep looking like it always has. Combine my past with the future and I am all for it.

So how is it different than a website (especially flash website), other than web updates every minutes, this updates once a week?

You don't have to lug a laptop into the shitter to read it?

No one thought to post a link to the new EGM template demo?

Check it out: http://www.egmnow.com/egmi321cover/

Fucking...INDESTRUCTIBLE blaring out of a digital magazine with no way to turn it off :lol

Oh oh and make sure to have no uniform GUI design and no way to tell what is interactive without rolling over it and yes, it's the year 2000 and I am so hyped about the internet's potential! Do you think the rest of the Star Wars prequels are gonna be any good?!

I'll reserve judgment for the final product, but yes I am excited. I'm also hopeful for a music toggle :P

Seems like an awful lot of work, when a nice, clean regualr website would be pretty much just as good, but whatever...

Have to agree that the Wired concept is incredibly classy, although I think I'd always rather just use a traditional web version, given the option. The EGM design though... my god, incredibly annoying. I'm sure they'll hone it in quickly though, these things are in their infancy after all.

The Wired one just seems like it was more along the idea of an interactive magazine rather than a website version of a magazine, and I'm more excited for the direction the former is going in than the latter. Like someone else said though I'm sure EGM will get a better design as they keep making content.

Just watched the OP video and the Wired video... difference in quality is quite staggering. EGM looks like a website and looks like it's designed for one (hover over events?) Wired looks like an interactive magazine.

Though I wish all these guys would settle on an open format for this kind of thing now instead of... probably ten years from now.

I like the EGM Lost Issue - Now featuring Bitmob, Area 5, etc... Guess there's some new stuff in it since they weren't around back then.

How did a junior make a thread? o_0

I think it's just a tag and not actual status but I could be wrong.

More people are going to be reading this on computers than tablets.

Looks wildly unimpressive. I hope they release a free sample of the full first issue, so we can see it ourselves.

I think wildly unimpressive is a wildly exaggerated statement. I know thats your opinion, but I thought it looked pretty good. I still prefer print, but getting content like that every week will be fun, and the ability to put it on my iPod is a nice feature.

Its something that I'm sure will only get better as well.

Just watched the video and I’m not impressed at all. There’s the “select-mag” in Germany and it’s basically the same thing. PDF with videos, weblinks, and stuff like that. The only difference is that it’s completely free.

I keep seeing people act like there paying for just a digital sub. Does "Select-mag" send out free print mags? The digital EGM is just a side thing.

well i already subscribed so i have no choice but to be optimistic.

hope it lives up to what they are promising

It looks interesting, got me to subscribe...well I was always going to subscribe just to support EGM, was one of my favorite mags back in the day.

I already subscribed, but having this IN ADDITION and weekly to what I already paid for is very cool. Plus, it'll be awesome to have on my iPhone.
