The New Powers of inFamous: Second Son - Gamescom 2013

So Neon isn't lighting then, from the trailer I assumed it's the classic lighting power. That's great cause I am hoping the main character gets lightning powers from Cole who makes a cameo appearance.

I don't see that happening
Cole died at the end of the good ending for Infamous 2. Sucker Punch confirmed this as cannon.

Wait!

Neon powers?!?!?!?!

WTF!?!?!

How the hell does rhat work? Neon attacks? What are you going to do with that? Overload the enemies senses with bright gaudy signs?

well I would assume there's some kind of blinding attack but it seems more like a traversal power to me; wouldn't be surprised if you could teleport with it

also

chill out

So glad the focus seems to be on interesting powers and a great playground to use them in rather than on a clunky morality system. This game looks great.

This. It also seems like the powers won't just be generic pea shooter and hand grenade stuff. They're actually doing some cool stuff with the powers.

Neon powers instantly make me think of Dazzler and Jubilee.

Infamous 2 ending spoiler:
They confirmed that the good ending was canon, not that Cole was dead. Remember that bolt of lightening?

In my mind, the "Second Son" title has got to mean something.

Personally (and some inFAMOUS 2 spoilers are going to be marked here), I'd love it if Cole
returns from the dead, as evidenced by the "?" lightning strike at the end of inFAMOUS 2
, and "passes the torch" onto Delsin by giving him his lightning powers, hence, the "Second Son," in a figurative sense to Cole's First Son origins, and Delsin carrying the franchise forward from then on. After all, Cole got three games all to himself (well, 2 and some kickass stand alone vampire shenanigans), and his story seems concluded for the most part.

In either case, as a huge inFAMOUS fan, this fricking game has me so excited. I'm so glad to see Sucker Punch really coming into their own. inFAMOUS has always had fantastic potential, so it's nice to see so many people stoked for Second Son.

Hmm...that's true. I personally hope it's not the case though.
I would rather Cole have a heroes death and move on.

See... It works with the first two games, too. Imagination bro - you can take it farther than what you posted.

Neon could be a slower, tankier power? Maybe a lot of charged and wind up shots?

Or maybe centred more around illusion and stealth as its light powers suggest.

It makes sense to contrast it against the speedy hit and run style of the smoke powers.

As much as a chameleonesque effect would be a cool idea for Neon, I prefer the idea they keep the strong and exciting colours.

I think that's why I am so sold on neon, it's an excuse to have some trippy, beautiful colours threading in and out of each other, lighting the environment.

Gotta say, there was a bit too much pew pew in that video for my liking. I hope the smoke powers will offer more than that when upgraded or something. At the very least be able to throw up some smokescreen.

Ah ok so there won't be a huge difference in any returning characters. I was thinking Cole might return in old man Kessler mode if it was set a long time after I2.
Yeah just checked:
Setting the scene: It’s been seven years since the Cole McGrath episodes and the world has clearly changed. Anyone showing signs of being a so-called “bio-terrorist” is immediately handed over to the Department of Unified Protection (DUP) — a government agency created to ensure there is never a repeat of the catastrophic events of Empire City and New Marais. So Delsin, who has never been particularly respectful of authority, finds himself caught in the DUP dragnet – And decides he’s not going to go quietly.

I can see neon as a slower range/precision type power.

Wonder who the cameos will be,i'd like to see what Zeke's been up too.

If we go by the previous installments, you can have some faith.

I doubt the quality of their design would go down AFTER Jaime Griesmer comes on board. I'm excited they have someone like him on board, who knows about that elusive momentary design. Someone who makes the here and now 'work'. And not just focusing on the larger game design.

Laser based attacks
disassembling into particles and traveling at the speed of light around the city (similar to vampire power in infamous 2 add on)

etc

Neon powers = the ability to become fabulous and get into any of the hottest nightclubs in town

Which... Let's be honest, dressed like that, Delsin is gonna have a hard time getting into any clubs.

They talk a lot about player agency, and the character has been customisable to a Fable extent in previous games. I wonder if there will be some more character customisation to this game?

Hmm. Now, I wonder if I can only use Smoke at once or Neon at once.

The reason I ask is because he alludes to 'switching' powers but in inFamous 2 we could chain different powers as they were assigned via button as opposed to power and thus you could use the ice jump, static thrusters and then throw an alpha bolt.

It seems that we may no longer to be able to do that.

Which is actually something I like. The reason being that inFamous 2 makes the Oil and Ice powers more of an extension of Cole as opposed to a different power which actually makes Delsin seem different when it comes to powers and the way they work.

I also wonder if we use separate bars for all of these powers (which it seems we will) then we could be put in situations where it, for instance, rains and then Smoke doesn't work thus forcing us to rely on other powers.

I just really wish we knew how many powers Delsin will get!

I think sucker punch is smart enough to know that at the very least, traversal mechanic should be done seamlessly, or if they're separate, they'll make the traversal power work so differently that there's no situation where you'll want to combine them.

if we use your example from infamous 2, they'll just change the ice jump into lightning jump or something so you can still use them together. sucker punch is super liberal with their implementation of power anyway, lol.

I wonder if Moya is going to make an appearance. They didn't mention her at all after the first game. She could have been the woman in the first trailer we saw at the February reveal.

She was killed off in the tie in comics between inFAMOUS 1 and 2.
Also, I think that Sucker Punch confirmed in a Kotaku article that
Cole won't appear in Second Son.

Insomniac? >_>

Ability idea:

Water power: Tether yourself to a cloud to spring into the air at a height of 100m+, and with enough momentum to cross a large portion of the map with one jump.

Obviously would need to be restricted in-mission

I"m starting to think this is the game I 'll get a PS4 for.

It looks like a big improvement on the fairly average first 2.

Haha I am not sure that would work well really.

I was wondering - do we know if there's going to be an "origin" story for how Delsin got the smoke powers? Or is he just going to start the game with those?

I dunno, do we actually think there will be a demo?

I know they did a demo for inFamous 2, but still, gotta be kinda hard to put resources towards a demo at this stage?

I'm just assuming they'll let people play the same gameplay demo we've seen already.

When and where did they say that? I was getting the impression that they would be heading more towards chaos/order with SS. I don't remember the developers mentioning the morality system anywhere, or even that there was one. Guess I missed it, but a link would be appreciated.
