Handful of good songs, a bunch of awful songs. All made worse by the most blatant overproducing I've heard in a major label debut. And don't forget about the choir of soul singers cheesing up nearly every chorus of every song.

Yum.

I bought it yesterday, hoping that it would be better than The Moneymaker...

Yuck.

Go buy Challengers instead.
I've already heard Challengers.

Rilo Kiley is awesome, don't hate.

Of course... I haven't heard it.

STOP IT, you're scaring me.

This is like made-for-the-OC-and-Grey's-Anatomy type shit. At least it'll be in the Billboard top 10 next week.

edit: I try to generally be positive about new albums and bands branching out into other sounds/genres, but I feel everyone needs to know that this album is a stinker before they waste money on it.

Nobody likes a Vegas lounge act. I cannot imagine what was going through their heads when they decided that was the direction the band needed to go. It makes for decent pop music, but it is over produced and has no edge whatsoever. Very disappointing.

btw, one thing worth noting: More Adventurous is such an amazing album. How could you ever expect them to top that?

Execution of All Things is better, IMO. But More Adventurous is really good.

It's a Hit and Portions for Foxes were awesome singles, but overall I preferred their first two albums.

Under the Blacklight is streaming in its entirety on Rilo Kiley's myspace page, so if you wanna check it all out before purchasing, go forth and do so.

Despite the "different" sound they have, it's still a really good album regardless. I don't understand the major backlash everyone is having against them. They're still better than 90% of mainstream music.

I like them, yeah, but you can't top More Adventurous. It's just great. Portions for Foxes is probably one of the two weak songs on that album, IMO.

Anyway, I listened to Under the Blacklight, and I can see why a lot of you are disappointed -- I am, in some ways, too. It kind of falls apart during the last couple tracks, and even before that, there are some rather dull moments. What do I define the dull moments as? Samey.

The case is pretty cool, as it has a purple tint to the plastic.

I need to give it a few more listens and let it sink in before I say too much.
