Q: I understand that details of NX will not be announced today. However, I would like to ask about the effect of NX in terms of performance in the fiscal year ending in March 2017. There were times in the past when sale of hardware at launch suffered due to the lack of a sufficient number of titles. Can you promise that the launch of NX will be accompanied by a solid lineup of games? We also have the case of Wii U hardware, which was sold at a loss at launch. I would like to know what you are thinking about the cost of NX in terms of analyzing performance for the fiscal year in which NX is launched.
A: We will introduce NX concepts and details at another time, so I will restrict my answer to the question asked. You are correct about needing a solid lineup of software. One of the reasons for choosing the launch timing that we did is so that the software lineup will be ready in time for the hardware launch. Not only at launch, but we also need to be able to continuously release titles after launch. We are planning for this to be a platform that consumers can enjoy for a long time.
Next, about how we are looking at cost, we are not thinking of launching the hardware at a loss. When Wii U was launched, the yen was very strong. I am assuming that situation will not repeat itself. Selling at a loss at launch would not support the business, so we are keeping that mind in developing NX.

what Kimi is trying to preventUncharted at a loss
Uncharted is loss
Uncharted is lost
Nathan Drake is asking for directions
Nathan Drakes goes to the direction of the NX by mistake
Uncharted 4 for NX confirmed.
Nintendo are falling further and further behind and then offering it at that price... they just wont attract anyone new which is what they need to do
At THAT price? You know something? Pls spill the beans
Or perhaps those estimates were bogus. Hmm.This actually bodes even worse than people are imagining cause Nintendo's loss points are miles away from BoM estimates. There were actually articles at the time claiming the OG Wii was sold at a loss. Of course Nintendo officially disclosed Wii U was moved at a loss, as was the $170 3DS. This was on HW that firms were estimating to cost $160 (Wii), $180 (Wii U), and $100 (OG 3DS) to produce at launch. Clearly when Nintendo sets a break even point they roll a shit ton of overhead into the figure. So if they say NX is break even or profit we could very well be looking at something worse than all their recent consoles from a tech perspective (relative to the time).
The PS2 was the most powerful console on the market at its launch.
So was the wiiu and probably wii but not sure

Nintendo NX To Be A Long Term Platform And Likely Wont Be Sold At A Loss
Nintendo Expects NX Sales To Make Up For Reduced Wii U Sales
Can confirm, Wii was definitely the most powerful when it launched.
Wasn't 360 out first? Can confirm, Wii was definitely the most powerful when it launched.
This is a stupid argument. PS2 launched a year/a year and a half before the competition and it was marketed as the most powerful console with the emotion engine. It was marketed as a powerhouse. Period. Also PS360 sold like 70 million consoles more than the Wii. Dismissing the power of a console and saying that power does not matter is dumb.Power does not always equal a "winning" console
Otherwise the original xbox would've wiped the floor with the ps2
And the ps3 would've outsold the Wii already

It should be noticed that Kimishima's main reference is about the current Yen exchange. As I already posted a few days ago, here's the comparison between different periods
Exchange rates as of December 31st, 2012 (after Wii U launch)
USD: 1 USD = 86.58 Yen
Euro: 1 Euro = 114.71 Yen
Exhance rates as of March 31st, 2016
USD: 1 USD = 112.68 Yen
Euro: 1 Euro = 127.70 Yen
Forecast for March 31st, 2017 (NX launch period)
USD: 1 USD = 110.00 Yen
Euro: 1 Euro = 125.00 Yen
So based on these exchange rates, if Nintendo had released a game console that cost them USD 400 to make in December 2012, that would be 34632 Yen (USD 400 multiplied with the exchange rate 86.58).
If Nintendo want to release another game console in March 2017 that also cost them 34632 Yen (break-even): 34632 Yen divided by an exchange rate of 110 will mean a price of USD 314.83636.
So the weaker the Yen, the lower Nintendo can push the price in USD before they start to take a loss.
Yes. Which is what is lost in this thread, the title, and the original article.
It had more RAM and a better GPU, IIRC.Wii launched almost a year after the 360
I'm not 100% sure on the Wii U specs but isnt the CPU pretty shit? I remember hearing it performed worse than the 360s

This is kind of disappointing, I was really expecting Nintendo to at least outpace the specs on other current gen consoles. We're still a year away from anything concrete though so who knows.
$299 launch price please
Nintendo more than any other first party has a clear track record: they're not gonna sell at a loss, they won't have a generation-leading hardware capability, they won't (really) give a shit about 3rd parties...
Nintendo makes their consoles to be cheap/profitable for shareholders, affordable and accessible for families, and FOR THEMSELVES. By that, if it isn't obvious, I mean they develop the hardware that they want to utilize. You buy a Nintendo console for Nintendo games. Not to get console ports.
If you think otherwise, you're in for disapointment.
I recall them shifting to an American headquarters so it didn't effect them. Could be wrong on that, thoSo I did interpret it wrong...I had it backwards...lol. I thought it meant they would have to price it higher so they wouldnt take a loss.
Interesting.
Its also interesting how the yen being strong or weak factors into all this. I wonder does this affect Sony?

If it's $299 you're getting a weak ass hardware device.
Pull a sony and price that bitch in the high 800s
Put a wii u inside to justify it
They pulled that shit with the PS3 and I bought it day :/
Personally, I don't care if it's PS4-level. 3rd parties won't be there anyways. I much more care about the following three:
Nintendo online infrastructure (party chat, friend chat, expansion of miiverse perhaps)
No more droughts. Steady releases.
The controller. Comfortable. Good battery life. Innovative.
Devs probably won't support ps4 neo. Its to much work. It will be more used for Vr and first party if Sony still got time for it. Their first focus is vr.
Oh good. You know what the hardware specs will be then. Please share.
If common sense is knowing what the specs are then sure. It's not rocket science.
what Kimi is trying to prevent

Wasn't GC the most powered system of its time?
Wasn't GC the most powered system of its time?
Completely false of course: PS2 was the weakest hardware, Wii was the weakest hardware, same for older hardware as well... In fact it's a rare exception.
Lot of silliness in this thread, to stay polite.
Which was released 15 years ago...
Overly underpowered.
I think this at least puts a nail into the wet dreams of some about NX being both the most powerful ever and very cheap. I hope Nintendo will offer the option to pick your poison.
Not really. Well depends on what you consider "very cheap". Anything under $299 was never gonna happen.
