Nolan movies normally are day one for me, but after Tenet, prob more wait and see. All the buzz around casting isn't helping sell this movie for me.

It's surreal seeing Nolan doing Paul W. Anderson stuff. Truly pathetic.

This vandalization of homer's work may become Hollywood's worst. Nauseating.

Tenet is a beautiful disaster. It's the kind of failed movie that only a very talented director can make. I love it, despite its many flaws.

And more importantly, it's a Nolan's original story, which makes up for its many mistakes. This Odyssey is just trash.

Im starting to wonder if this is a troll job from Nolan, like Dustborn was in vidya.

I wonder if its a meta commentary, like Odysseus is embroiled in the Trojan War, full of nonsensical characters forced there by capricious 'gods' and their agenda. He finally wins by making what APPEARS to be something the 'woke' gods accept, but is a trap. Then he has to fight his way past temptations and culture traps to finally get back to an authentic acceptance with his 'tradwife' and its just the final scenes that feel like what a traditional telling of the epic before hollywood went insane might be like.

Doesn't the Academy have that new rule where if you want your film to even be considered for nominations you NEED to cast gays, non whites, non white gays or any race of tranny for supporting roles?

It would certainly help explain those casting choices being as fucked up as they are.

Tenet didn't work for me. However -- it DID show me that Pattinson could actually act, kind of like what 12 Monkeys did for Brad Pitt. So, there is good there.

There is enough narrative room in the material for Nolan to make this work.
If the case is made that someone's spirit loses its connection to its earthly shell after death, then their voice could be delivered by sexless human sludge.

I'm still half-convinced this film is some West World/Total Recall/Assassin's Creed/Vanilla Sky/Shyamalan-type thing and the presentation of the actual Odyssey story, within the picture, is fabricated - it looks "off" by design. Maybe Matt Damon lost his car keys and they put him in a simulation so he can work out, mentally, how to find them. The characters in the Odyssey are portrayed by the people he encountered the day he lost the keys. Anne Hathaway is The Car Keys. Or maybe Tom Holland is. This, of course, requires the reveal to be kept out of promotion and spy photos which I'm not sure is possible these days.

Goofy idea, but I have a standing bet with the wife in this regard (not specific to car keys). One of us is paying for Nozawa Bar. It will probably be me, seeing as we also have a standing bet from years ago in which I took the position George Martin will finish Winds of Winter. It was a bad call, Ripley.

Tenet didn't work for me.

Tenet is a film I rewatch periodically, hoping to finally appreciate it for what it is. This never quite works out. The technical concept is great, but the villain's motivation is nonsensical and Denzel's kid simply does not have the charisma/presence of his father. Pattinson is great in it, but he has the advantage of acting against the intentionally underwritten Protagonist. The reverse entropy stuff is fun, but doesn't survive serious scrutiny and, aside from a few bits here and there, no one in the movie is having any fun. It takes itself way too seriously (end-of-world plot or not). It's also too weird for the general audience and requires a strict belief in determinism for any of its narrative to make sense. That's a big ask and it seems most viewers responded, "Nah." Maybe it'll all click next time.
