The Odyssey (2026) Trailer

He was the best thing about Tenet imo. Absolutely stole every scene he was in.
Yep. Never was a fan of Pattinson, and am NOT a fan of Tenet -- but it showed his range, and that he could truly act. If you like him, and haven't seen it, High Life is pretty good.

So it is actually confirmed, Page as Achilles?
That simply can't be true.. like, it just can't.
Heard she's supposed to be Elpenor, the youngest of Odysseus's men, last to die before the voyage home and first ghost to appear to Odysseus in the underworld.. has to be.

Either way, time for yet another Troy rewatch..

Still the best one-on-one fight I've seen in a film. And best sound design, at least Theatrical since Director's Cut completely ruined this incredible scene with that awful re-score.

Sorry to be that guy, but the original Troy wasn't exactly the most historically accurate depiction of the Iliad or the Trojan War either. The inaccuracies were up the ass with the usual Hollywood artistic liberties. It's just that people are now comparing it to this Nolan piece of shit, which somehow makes Troy look like the greatest epic movie ever made in comparison.

I personally loved him as Batman. That's what made me a fan. Then I watched The Lighthouse and was sold.

Pattison was the only thing good about Tenet with its shitty plot.
The rest of the cast are just good at putting me to sleep.

Regular normie mates who arent a part of pop culture chambers are even sending me memes of this and the casting now...

The movies fucked... but deservedly so, moronic casting and what seems to be the screenplay also

Yes, but in that particular case, the changes were necessary to make the story watchable. I mean, it's very hard to recreate +10 years of siege as it was told in the original book. Another example: Agamenon's death, killed by his wife at home. In the movie he had to die in Troy or not die at all, which wasn't satisfactory.

Though Troy had the hollywood print all over, it wasn't purposefully offensive, like this crime of a movie by Nolan.

Doesn't matter. It was however a masculine yarn and enjoyable to watch.

I think that's what most people are saying - that they never considered Troy to be some great movie, but that Nolan's flick is making it look like one in comparison.

Troy is one of those movies that I never considered to be great, but it's really entertaining and rewatchable. And I love the cast - especially Brian Cox and Sean Bean.

It was considered a very good movie back in the day. It was a box office success and still has a respectable 7.3 IMDB score. Looking at the images/photos on IMDB it's clear to see that the movie's producers and director did their best to make a true epic that at least looked authentic (even though historians would no doubt disagree). Just look at these shots! Nolan didn't put in ANY effort even though he was such a stickler for accuracy in previous movies.

And isn't it a joy to see all of those COLORS in these stills? Compare that to the dour monochromatic colors of Nolan's Oddysey ...

Another thing: why is the famously WOODEN Trojan horse made of metal in Nolan's Odyssey. The horse is even standing upright, a pose that would make this thing incredibly difficult to move without it toppling over of its own accord ... Remember that this was supposed to be an improvised statue built by defeated soldiers just before they'd left. But in Nolan's version its a giant statue that would take an enormous amount of time to design and build. You'd need smiths, bellows, furnaces, etc etc to build such a thing. It doesn't make any sense anymore. What a fucking mess.

Fun fact, troy was written by one of the D&D of Game of Thrones fame.

Let's cool down on calling this movie a piece of shit just because of a couple of casting decisions which are practically inconsequential. this is Nolan coming off an oscar win for best picture and best director. ive seen the intro on IMAX in front of Avatar 3 and it was incredible. it's nolan at its best using the IMAX format at its fullest, with an incredible soundtrack and old school non-CG filmmaking.

I am a 100% sure the movie will be a visual spectacle. Something you have to see in the cinema to fully appreciate.

As if that fucking matters at all :messenger_tears_of_joy: Ever see The Deer Hunter? It took home five Oscars (including director and picture) and Michael Cimino was considered unstoppable (even the movie previous to TDH was his Thunderbolt & Lightfoot which was also very well received). Hollywood gave him a blank check to do whatever he wanted (much like Nolan got for this) and the dude put out the overbudgeted, insanely long Heaven's Gate which is considered one of the biggest bombs in box office history and wiped Cimino's career right off the map.

Same with Friedkin. He had carte blanche for whatever he wanted after The Exorcist and he put out Sorcerer (which HE considers his best work) which, while fucking awesome, completely tanked and forever changed the direction of his career. Hollywood lost all faith after that one "mistake".

EVERYTHING is wrong. The color palette, the architecture, the costumes, the ridiculous accents, the book translation this is based off and, in addition of all that, every casting decision is wrong too.

It's a piece of shit because it shits on the original work.

That leaping sword attack is straight up used in RYSE, Assassins Creed Odyssey and Star Wars Outlaws :messenger_sunglasses::messenger_grinning:

Casting decisions, "inconsequential"?
My good man, EVERYONE on the internet has been criticizing this supposedly "inconsequential" casting.

May I ask where you're from, by the way ? Because let me tell you, as a Greek, I'm sick and tired of Western PC bullshit meddling with one of the few things my country still has left: its history and culture.

I'm also tired of the same old clichés at this point like, "it's just a myth, bro", "it's fantasy, bro", "why do you care, bro", etc. Funny enough, those takes almost always seem to come from uninformed Westerners, not a dig at you personally, obviously, it's just what I've consistently observed online.

As for the rest… I've said it before and I'll say it again: Nolan is massively overrated. His filmography is mediocre at best, and contemporary filmmakers like Denis Villeneuve completely put him to shame.

It's Spectacle over substance with him, always

inconsequential because Helen of Troy and Achilles are barely in the Odyssey. Achilles is fucking dead. he probably shows up as a ghost in the middle of the movie or something. She's in a brief scene with Telemachus iirc. he might add a scene or two with her in the beginning as they prepare to leave troy.

I think its retarded to cast either of these actors. i even called it trolling on the previous page, but when it comes to them ruining the movie, they just wont be in there long enough for that to happen.

I saw the sack of troy in front of Avatar. its a great fucking scene. its not as epic as Troy but no one shoots stuff like Nolan. It's incredible filmmaking. Spectacle over substance? Definitely. but thats why we go watch his movies. ive cooled off on Nolan myself since Interstellar. I thought Dunkirk was a misfire, wont go in detail, but i feel like he's not been at his best. Tenet and Oppenheimer were also just a bit off. But i end up rewatching his movies, even the mediocre ones because of the spectacle. I agree Denis is a better director.

The idea that they used scrap wood and salvaged ships to create that fucking perfect 1:1 image of a horse is just so retarded. They even have the hooves and shit, how did they do that? Look at that horse's head, it's just one solid chunk of wood (supposedly). Literally impossible to craft.

It's just so unbelievably sloppy. From a man who's notorious for his minutia. Ridiculous.

Personal opinion: this is going to be Nolan's big flop, yet another "modern product for a non-existent audience" that'll get mocked for years to come for all the obvious reasons. And of course, when it happens, the blame will be shifted onto the "racist" and "ignorant" masses/filmgoers because... naturally, that's what they always do.

TIL Elon Musk collaborated with Jonathan Nolan on a SpaceX film and Westworld and they used to be very friendly.

Kind of interesting considering how Elon has been attacking Chris Nolan a lot the past couple days.

I know that around 90% of this thread are wavering on seeing the movie due to a few casting choices, but I hope the remaining 10% of you will be here to tell us whether or not the sound mixing in this movie is good or not.

I don't blind-buy tickets for Nolan anymore due to how inconsistent his sound mixing has become.

So your opinion on it will make or break my purchase.

This Elliot Page reveal is like sitting down for dinner and having your ex wife stare at you the whole time asking if you like it only to reveal that the ground beef was plant based. What a disappointment.

The Odyssey is one of the most important works of Western Civilization. It shouldn't be treated so lightly and in such a revisionist manner. Batman was given more respect to the source material than this. Batman.

Every piece of news inches it closer to Rings of Power territory.

Preemptively blaming the fans usually bodes very poorly. Fine company to be thrown in with: Zegler Snow White, Rings of Power, and the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy. The worst releases of the 21st century.

Like clockwork.

We all remember how it worked out for the rest.

"You can't have an opinion because it's not out yet"

For TV shows like Acolyte and Rings of Power it was:

"You can't say it's bad because not every episode has been released yet"

It's like these people are trying to pretend that a completely different movie is being promoted.

And did that dude seriously try and debunk the DEI Oscar thing by using Oppenheimer as evidence, despite that movie coming out the year prior to the rules. Information that was literally in the article. Really, those fucking rules. Everyone knows it's about virtue signalling. No one is going to stand up to the Oscars having just done enough to scrape by hope to make the win. They're going to give it to the ones that wear all the flair.

"Why is Snow White Latina?" Bombed
"Why are there Black people in 'The Rings of Power'?," Bombed
"Star Wars has gone woke" Imploded the biggest franchise in entertainment

"The Odyssey."
