I'm starting to get burnt out by this game, thanks to the fact that villagers arbitrarily decide to move out of town - treat them better than everyone, get their photo, perfect town, miss a day and they're gone.

Lol there was a lot of them in mine also, got it all cleaned up though. Still a fun game in my opinion, just would be more fun to go to others towns. I am just waiting in anticipation for the 3ds version, hopefully no friend code stuff so I can go to all the towns I want, thought I could see that being troublesome.

me & my wife have been playing our copies since within a month of release (me doing 2 5 minute sessions a day, & she sometimes a bit more). & what's weird is, every once in a great while, one of my neighbors can still sometimes say something that i've never heard before

Here's the story : my girlfriend is playing AC:WW for a few weeks now, and since the beginning of the game, she developed a very strong bound with Rocco. Which has just left her village.
I vaguely heard about a virtual 9th villager slot where your outcoming villagers goes temporarly, just for the time before another one come to your village.
For what I understood, if you go by Wi-Fi into the village of someone else quickly after a villager left, he goes into the 9th slot of the village of your internet friend and move into as a villager as soon as someone else left. And, for what I understood (bis), you can do the same trick when he left the other village to get him back, with all his "memory" unaltered.
So, my question is simple : if the previous statement is true, can someone "welcome" the Rocco which left so he's not lost in the data limbo of the cartridge ?
Here is the special "bonus" part for you to understand why I'm making this request :
My girlfriend is very depressed since a few months, due to some unfunny events in her life. Her game of AC:WW in this shiny and funny village is her daily break from her depression and (that's the "Please don't laugh, I'm very serious" part), in a way, she really considered Rocco as... a friend, a real one.
Needless to say, combined with her current state she was literally devastated when he left...
Anyway... thanks for reading this, and, if I understood well the part about th 9th slot, if somebody can welcome temporarely "her" Rocco, I can assure you it would mean a lot more than you think...

Bad news: if I'm not mistaken, if he has left, it's too late to transfer it to another town now (it may already have been moved elsewhere, though)
Good news: he may not be lost in the limbo, I've heard several times that previous animals were coming back for a visit later, e.g. in the shopping street. That has to be confirmed, though, I haven't experienced it myself yet.
I understand the feeling, I've grown fond of some of my previous neighbors. I'm happy that it's more and more easy to take pictures, btw.
Edit : damn, it's the city folk thread. Not sure that apply. Maybe others will be able to help on this one.

So, in order to be able to "save" the other villagers in another city in the case where they leave, what should she do ? Only connect to another AC game by WiFi and go to that city whenever a character leave ?
Damn, from the outside, I never assumed Animal Crossing would be such a engrossing and frustrating game... !
