The Official Halo 3: ODST Thread

Closer to 20% ;-)

I dunno, I'm not one to be annoyed by people posting on the Internet, but if the Wu tells you to calm down, even if this isn't his forum, I'd listen ^^

/back to ODST/Reach/Halo discussion for me

Reach video at TGS, what should we expect? (sorry if this has already been discussed to death, but when you guys post 300 posts everytime I go to sleep, I don't have the time to keep up..)

Sketch confirmed Reach wasn't going to be shown :(

As Ghaleon pointed out in another thread, Bungie has claimed to not know of any Reach TGS showing.

Now they could be lying (someone mentioned a similar Halo 3 announcement denial) or playing dumb but I'm still of the opinion that Don Mattrick is going to take over all Bungie-related announcements.

Last night you were being hypocritical, and now you're being ridiculous. Please, control yourself.
Holy shit, Ghaleon reposted info one time. Consider my comment nullified. Like I said, if it was isolated cases or "every once and while" I wouldn't care. But you seem to make it your mission to respond to every single post in this thread, whether the question has been answered or the content posted. Of course you're free to spam the thread with as much shit-posts as you like, just as I'm free to call you a shit-poster.

And really, Dax? Are you so thick not to see that me posting that mumbo jumbo about "everyone not seeing Halo the same way and considering the opinions of others" as an excuse for reasonable debate was mocking you.

On the front page, if you click on the number of posts a thread has, that pops up.

And for the record, that's because it hadn't yet been posted in this thread - it was in the old ODST thread, which I stopped reading while I polished up this one and missed that discussion. So technically it was the first time it had been posted in this thread. But I was still LTTP.

*moving on*

It's going to be a long week. I have next Tuesday off work, and am still debating going up to Seattle for the launch shindig, but I'm waiting on details of what's going down. Either way, I need to find a sleep chamber. Not expecting any real new content to chew over until the review embargo is up, I'm guessing this weekend.

Yeah I was wondering the same thing. Is there some sort of "Who posted" tool I don't know about in the forum software? Can't find it (might be blind).

Edit:

On the front page, if you click on the number of posts a thread has, that pops up.

That's two more fans than I would have guessed...

My bad, I thought I saw "Reach (video)" in the Microsoft TGS thread during break this morning, but that was on my phone and I didn't have time time to read the full thread. Oh well.. =(

edit: alright, so unless something changed in the past five days to quote Ghaleon, nothing new (I mean, we all already have the E3 teaser on our HDDs) next week.

We'll be pretty busy anyways, between ODST and FM3 demo :D

Oh shit, EazyB has a backflip-sized meltdown!

1. vidoc was fucking awesome

Yea I am pretty sure this is the case.

The main reason you see so many posts by Dax is that half the people on here try to argue with him/slam him, so many posts are in his own defense or to argue his point. He'd be naturally inclined to post considerably more than most here unless he chooses to ignore half the crap that is spewed towards him.

Whoa. Someone at HBO noticed that that site (Associated Content) is all about generating SEO-oriented content - for a price!

What started as a sad but entertaining biased review is now beginning to look EVIL.

Looking forward, only seven days to go. Luckily I 've avoided any and all spoilers regarding this game's story (which never happens), genuinely looking forward to the campaign.

£60 including the game and a new controller isn't too bad at all. =)

Looking forward to geting owned.

There you are. Are you gonna be on Live when 9/22 rolls around?

I'm not nearly as annoyed by all this as Eazy seems to be - but it's hard to deny you post a lot.

When you've got 25% more posts than the nearest poster (and the thread founder, to boot!) you might want to consider slowing down.

Hehe, excuse my ignorance, but where in the yellow hell is that picture from? Do you have some elite post tracking mod going on? :lol

Edit: Holy shit, wow. Mind blown. I have to check the Official H3 Thread's now. I've probably got like two billion posts in there. :lol

Yeah, remember when I used to be Dax? I replied to everything.

Is one of those new pictures an engineer wearing armor?
Not sure if it is wearing armor, but it does appear to be a carapace of some sort. Given that the engineers are artificial constructs and not organic, I would bet that this is something that is more of the same material - resembles tissue, but is some sort of nano-material.

What's interesting to me is at 8:15 in the viDoc when the engineer looks threatening. I strongly believe that this could have something to do with the engineer either being protective of a friend/companion or protecting a forerunner artifact. Those are the only times they have ever gotten worked up in the fiction. Usually Huragok (engineers) just go about their business without ever noticing what's going on around them unless it involves machinery or forerunner artifacts.

I am leaning towards forerunner artifacts. Why would the prophet deploy huragok in the first place? They are the best at what they do and excel at these types of functions, not merely combat support for overshields and machinery repair. But, if there is a forerunner artifact buried beneath New Mombasa that is separate from the Ark Portal in Halo 3, this would indicate that it is something of value and I anticipate figuring out exactly what it may be.

Reminds me of how heavily that marketing campaign led us to believe an epic battle for Earth would take place, but instead we got about 20 minutes of mediocre Earth gameplay instead. Combined with an overall lackluster story, (although I really did like the addition of the Arbiter) dual wielding, and lunge MP. Man I hate Halo 2. /rage

ODST, please be better than Halo 2. :lol

If you think about it, they're still not delivering what that imagery shows and evokes. I would have liked that better than drudging around the city at night, IMO.

I just broke Ber Ber Creek. Here's how I did it.

Ber Ber Broken (Bungie Film)

berber01.jpg

berber02.jpg

berber03.jpg

So in the film there's another guy there. He tries to help me make it up by me jumping on his head but you'll notice I make it without his help. It's a frag grenade jump by the way.

There might also be another spot but the jump is EXTREMELY difficult to hit. I might give it another shot but it might be impossible without a brute shot.

I don't think the fix should be all that hard.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm definitely not expecting anything near what that image shows. I'm just hoping for a better campaign. The most intriguing aspect of ODST for me is a possibly much more human campaign. By that I mean perhaps actual character development and bonds built throughout the course of the game. As Chief all you really have is Cortana (even though she's absent for most of 3, and I believe the SP experience suffers as a result) and perhaps little bursts of Sgt Johnson/Keyes. Marines join up and help from time to time, but do you ever really care about their deaths? It just feels like in the more recent Halo games, the campaign is more about set pieces rather than an actual story. I hope ODST changes that a bit.

If I order from newegg now will they ship today or was that just a fluke for people that ordered it earlier?

Ok I haven't been on the internet for about 4 days...have I missed anything ODST related?
Read the top of the OP, and you're up to date. :D

On that note, I just did a big update to the OP.

Housekeeping | Added links to Bungie's other social media pages (facebook, youtube, twitter), added links to HBO's and Bungie's image galleries, updated a number of existing images with higher quality (and uniformly-sized) versions, and did some organizational changes.

Updates | Added the vidoc, and added images to the newly announced Firefight maps to the Firefight section.

Do I have this right - nine of the ten Firefight maps are officially revealed now?

Crater
Crater Night
Lost Platoon
NMPDHQ
Oni Alpha Site
Rally Point
Rally Point Night
Security Zone
Windward

So one more not yet (officially) announced - unless I missed it. (Lemme know if I did.)

I agree with you and I wasn't insinuating anything with my last post. I was just stating the obvious and what my preference is. ODST will certainly be entertaining and enjoyable in its own way but I much rather be fighting the Covenant while the city is in ruin and while they're glassing it to smithereens. But that's just me.

And orange is one of my favorite colors (along with blue and yellow).

Isn't that what Reach is for? :D
