The Official Halo 3: ODST Thread

I am just amazed at how well received ODST has been.
When I first heard about the game I thought, " maybe a mediocre warm up to Reach". But Bungie has continued to shine.
Reading the reviews has surprised me. Got a copy on the way.

have a question here, can I buy a copy at walmart tonight and play it, then return the sealed amazon copy to walmart?

Yea I think that would work. You'll obviously wanna hold on to that receipt.

Doubt it. Pretty certain Wal-Mart will know if that copy was sold in store or not.

You might want to avoid publicly asking how to fraud a company, specifically a company that has enough money to have every member of Gaf erased from public record :D

(read: Walmart could totally fuck this site up if it got wind of this)

I totally forgot this game came out tomorrow, it's like a surprise present for me!

Years ago that stuff worked. Now though they might catch it. Just make sure you go to someone young who you know doesn't care about there job and what gets returned then you will be fine.

Man, I can't wait to get in and play FireFight mode with my friends. That mode in all games is always really really fun, as it's a change of pace from the campaign and you're working together towards an increasingly difficult goal.

Reminds me of doing 3v5 computers in Starcraft if that makes any sense :lol

Not sure if I'm going to pick this up at midnight or not (probably not), but FireFight mode alone is worth the price of entry for me.

In my experience Wal-Mart is pretty laid back with that stuff. I won Gears of War at a tournament(3rd place :( ) and was able to trade it for another game in a Wal-Mart with no receipt.

edit: The employees

Me too. I didn't think I was going to get pulled in but everything I have seen about the game looks fantastic.

Amazon UK have yet to dispatch my copy so I will just return it and buy the game in 6 hours from Gamestation midnight launch.

Lets just say I was doing Heroic, got to a ledge and started firing on both of them, I see one run away and I continue to fire on the other, a few seconds later I turn around to see one coming up the stairs at me. I booked it like there was no tomorrow. I love that I felt nervous and I wasn't invincible like the chief, I needed to be strategic about how I handled the situation.

lol - same here.
I think you guys mean the part with the snipers over the courtyard, with two or three Hunters you run into. I killed the snipers then ran to the building across from where you start, going in the back door and up to the platform with the ramp leading up to it (the hunter uses it to get up) that's across from the turret. Sniped the Grunt on the turret and jumped to the ledge on the left, ran across and jumped onto the turret platform, then booked for the door as fast as I could. Rookie doesn't take chances.

Just finished the campaign with a buddy, 2 player on heroic only picked up the audio logs that were on our way. Didn't rush anything
apart from possibly a section where we were given vehicles to get across the city
All in all it was good story to fill in what happened after you left Earth in Halo 2. Kicker is it took us 4 1/2 hours to finish.

What the hell is happening with your avatar/handle/tag?

So should I be at all concerned with the fact that my order from Amazon with 'Release-Date Delivery' apparently hasn't shipped yet? I've never used this kind of shipping with them before.

Should be fine. I think they always overnight "release date delivery" games. Mine hasn't shipped either...

No you shouldn't be worried. it should start processing this afternoon sometime. Hell I've had them start processing as late as 6PM and they still arrive the next day. Remember as they say due to the nature of being a release day delivery their normal tracking methods and status updates may not be accurate.

*Edit*

Just checked mine and sure enough Amazon has charged it and it's preparing to ship. So yours should be doing so also soon.

Actually, unless you open the game, they probably won't take it back :/
Yeah GS wont take back sealed games...but if you buy it at walmart you will have no problem returning the amazon copy to walmart with a walmart receipt.

Side note...is it ok to install the ODST disk to the HD?

Yeah, OP says installing is okay, and Bungie has confirmed that multiple times.

So jealous of you guys with the game. I think I'll call some stores tonight and see if they've got copies to sell yet.

Kinda late but thanks Letters for the avatars. :D I was quite busy yesterday -- GameCrazy Halo 3 tournament.

Edit- I just sent a FR to GAF Firefight2.

I had no problem bringing back a sealed game I got from Toys R Us to Gamestop. He even scanned the barcode.

Is it possible to create a service record on bungie.net for a silver account?
If so, could whoever is managing GAF firefight create a service record there so that we might compare our scores on the leaderboards?

If you want to get a copy at Gamestop, I would highly recommend trying to reserve a copy, even if it's mere hours before the midnight release. EVERY time I've ever checked GS to see if they had a new title on release day, not only did they not have any extras, but they sneered at me and gave me the "you should've pre-ordered" routine. It seems silly, but if you don't pre-order, somebody else might waltz in tomorrow and put their name down on a copy that could've been yours.

I'd love to have them try this at my location; there's too much competition around for that to work.

It will always work as long as it is universal barcode system. There is no way for them to identify if copy was sold by them or other retailers unless they add some unique identifier.

You need register for the site and then link your gamertag & windows live ID to the site.

It feels kinda weird to hear someone talking when playing in first person after being used to Chief just being dead silent all the time. I like the change, though. Gives the character more personality.

Does the Rookie have a voice? Or is it only the flashback characters?

Just to let everyone know, if you save and quit from a level, it doesn't save your achievement progress for that level >=[

You sure about this?

Sounds weird. Why would ODST work differently from Halo 3 campaign?

Dax01 said:
The progress bar that appears in-game?

Yeah, the 'meta' achievements I guess. I was playing (level name)
Uplift Reserve
and there's an achievement for (achievement details)
destroying all six wraiths
. I saved and quit to play a round of Firefight (which is also awesome, by the way), and when I resumed my save my progress for that achievement was lost.

I still got the achievement for completing the level, but the one I mentioned was restarted.

I don't have it yet ;)

Also can anyone let me know when playing 4-Player co-op who are the other 3 characters during a flashback? I know that in the hub they are all rookie.

Maybe this is old, but I just noticed it.

http://www.bungie.net/Online/Default.aspx

The stats page shows the number of players and games played in the past 24 hours, as they always have, but also the cumulative totals for both. I'd never seen those before.

50,158 ODS players, so far. Will be interesting keeping an eye on it as it grows.

They have been there, even for Halo 2. Bungie is second only to Blizzard in web stats in my opinion.
Heh. I've been to that page dozens of times and just never noticed. :lol
