The Official Halo 3: ODST Thread

baaaah no firefight matchmaking was a balls up.

Played a lot of it now, it's fun. The flashbacks are like 1 great big awesome set piece that tells a really cool story. Hub world doesn't do much for me except make these things feel fresh and awesome.

Got my copy in the mail today. Played through about half an hour so far. Love it! Just popped back online to buy the OST.
Getting strong vibes of Stalker from this one, as far as the loneliness and the abandonment of the environment goes. Ok, that's enough, I'm jumping back in! :D

I still can't fathom how Bungie ever thought this engine was a good idea; the game is so damned simple looking yet it has absolutely horrendous aliasing, 30fps and shitty textures. I remember firing up Halo 3 when it launched thinking man this game is ordinary looking but now it's just awful. I hope theres a new engine in the works for any other Halo titles, if this was any other game people would be damning it for being such a sub-standard looking title.

Sorry but I had to get that out. It just baffles my mind.

Look, we've been here before. Some people don't like how Halo 3 looks for whatever reason. I personally hate the lack of AA; it can really make certain levels and situations look terrible (the end of Sierra 117 comes to mind). However, the Halo 3 engine is arguably one of the more technically capable engines on the Xbox 360. What other game engine is willing to lift their skirt like Halo 3 on the 360? There isn't one. Bungie built the Halo 3 engine with saved films and Forge in mind. Bungie also made the conscious decision to ramp up HDR while ramping down AA. Halo 3 is beautiful in a slightly flawed way, not ugly in a majorly flawed way.

The focus on bigger, badder, and more badass has certainly not done the PS3 or the 360 many favors. Maybe we should change how we look at games and appreciate them for fun as opposed to graphical prowess. This seems to be working well for Nintendo and most of the free world.

Do you move a lot slower, making it more difficult to reach around? In Halo 1-3, it wasn't exactly challenging to get around the back.

Yes. We. Get. It.

Move along now. I am sure the Haze thread is still alive and well.

Seriously Andrews, your sudden interest and concern in this game of actions and shooting is draining my reserves of happy spirits. At least change your avatar back or something.

Free "Prepare to Drop" Premium Theme on the MP for gold members. Think it's a limited time deal.

Hmm scratch off you say. The GS codes have the simple pull out tag.

Edit: ODST at $50.99 on Amazon atm. Would be a deal with the ECA discount as well.
thanks for mentioning the amaon price. i was able to get it with my 50 gift cert for nothing:d

Anyone up for some FireFight, I can't sleep!... Everyone is playing campaign!

Would have played with you but I had to get ready for class. I'll probably head on to see if who wants to play firefight around 2 pm after I get home.

Btw, it took me close to 11 hours to finish the game on heroic.

Good shit!

Man, I'm going to make some massive breakfast then try and do the campaign in one sitting

I'm heading out the door now... I'll be back in like fifteen minutes with the game!

Who's up for some Firefight or Mythic 2.0 maps when I get back?

<3

Now I'm a little bummed.

If my Amazon preorder hasn't even shipped yet, is there any way for me to get the price changed to the current price, as opposed to the price I ordered it at?

Picked up my LE copy from GameStop this morning. I am giving the game to my son for his birthday, which is tomorrow. Quite the dilemma: do I give my son an opened gift; or hold off until tomorrow night? Decisions, decisions.

To be perfectly honest, my dad did this to me once with a Christmas present when I was like 13. Star Wars Rogue Squadron on N64. I didn't care :lol

It should be done automatically as stated in their pre-order policy. Till the end of the day of release date, you should get the lowest price adjusted as a refund. But you can send them an email also.

I feel weird reading about people being done with the campaign, while I'm just cracking the shrinkwrap on my copy...
Yeah there are some people out there already close to (or may have) 1000pts already...that is nuts.

I was very surprised at how fast u seem to be when u break off one o the stationary alien guns an go into 3rd person view.

Had read ur suppose to be slower but doesn't seem to be the case.

You're ahead of me, I haven't even gotten it yet.... Just 30 more minutes and I'm free for a bit.

I was planning on buying this game but I just bought NHL 10 and another $60 for a new campaign is weighing pretty heavy now. Did anyone feel the same way before they bought ODST and now have no regrets (after playing it)?

My release day delivery from Amazon screwed me. Something happened in transport and it ended up back where it started...nooooooooooooooooooooooooo.gif.

Yeah. I don't like to blast through a game in one day. I bought this mainly for campaign, and I plan to explore every nook and cranny.

I've played it for a few hours now and I'm fucking LOVING it. I'm still only on the first flashback though, taking it slow and checking out every nook and cranny. Also I'm playing on Legendary so every battle is a challenge, just the way I like it.

Graphically I'm surprised at how damn good it looks. Pictures does not do it justice. Maybe it's just my TV that makes it shine, but I think it's definitely a step or two above Halo 3, which was never a bad looking game to begin with imo. That effect that makes it look like they modeled every room in the skyscrapers is awesome.

Only thing I'm not liking so far is the grenade throwing. That's going to take a while to get used to.

I'd love to do some with you, but later tonight. Next time I boot up Firefight, it's campaign.

Speaking of Firefight, did my third solo run and made it a little bit further than I did on my second game.

Yeah, i got owned too. Except mine went 700 miles in the opposite direction, when it was like 650 from me to begin with, after being delayed. Buncha BS.

Playing it now and loved the atmosphere.

Decided to give Halo 3 another shot yesterday and almost beat the game on Legendary solo.

Halo really isn't Halo any other way so I'm playing ODST legendary solo in singleplayer as well. I love to do coop as often as I can but I'll save my coop run in ODST for later as I feel its made as a singleplayer experience. Looking to do some damage in firefight later. Great pickup.
