The Official Halo 3: ODST Thread

Just got it

Took 145 minutes and 41 seconds. Post pics of Postgame Carnage later.

To get the achievement for killing Engineers, can you load up any level and do it, or do you have to do a full campaign run and have it unlock when you beat the game?

You have to do it on Mombasa Streets, but you don't have to do it as part of a full campaign run.

that was fast from Gamefly, but only ONE DISC? WTF

the music is awesome.

They only sent the ODST disc? I wonder if Microsoft only sold that one to them, or if they just messed up somehow.

This thread is becoming too multiplayer focused. We might have to make a thread on the Online / Matchup Forum for all things ODST like online campaign and FireFight.

Oh and I'm up for some FireFight now... I'm on the first GAF FireFight tag.

If you're even thinking about getting VidMaster: Endure, make sure you're playing with really good people. The easiest map is Alpha Site, by far.

i got pretty frustrated with the campaign but then i remembered how i used to play halo 3.
you gotta take your time, use lots of cover and not rush in to kill everyone.

its quite an enjoyable game if you understand it

I'm getting the feeling that by the time I can try to get the last Multiplayer achievements for Halo 3 and get the Firefight ones for ODST, nobody is going to be willing to help out due to doing it so many times.

:(
(goes into Valhalla and cries in a corner)

Jetpack Brutes + Jackals, ugh. I'm having fun but I'm getting pwned so damned hard in single player right now.

Most grueling 130 minutes of my life....and the film didn't save afterwords >:[

But I got it....the very last round of set 4 was just.....beyond epic.

My advice to anyone wanting this achievement is to remember assassinations still work even with the mythic skull on :D

Suck it Brute Chieftain.

A group of mates and I did it on the indoors Alpha site. Took us 120 mins and we went into set 4 with 24 lives, the final round with 16.

We did it on Alpha site and we had 0 lives left on the final round......

Let me guess, you just completed
ONI Alpha Site
? Yeah, I really do hate having to check out if I should take out a Brute or a Jackal first. Especially if a
Engineer is giving them Overshields
.

Oh well, there's always the Brute Plasma Rifle for that.

After playing a whole lot of Firefight, I have to say that I'm maybe even more surprised at how good the campaign was.

I had some expectations coming into the game, thinking it would (despite the changeover to the ODST's being 'the man' this time around) still carry the same pacing of near-constant action.

Instead it was a couple minutes until I saw my first enemy at all. The Rookie gameplay segments really broke from the Halo mould. Similar gameplay, to be sure, but a totally different feel to it. Exploring the interior of a building, the suspense was more akin to BioShock than Halo 3 - a feeling emphasized when the door suddenly opened next to me and I jumped just a little :lol

Then I hit the flashback sequence and *bam* there was the classic Halo action. The other ODST had far more action in the time I spent with them, a lot closer to controlling Master Chief than the Rookie ever felt over the course of the game.

Continually switching back and forth, with the great background music setting the switch in scenes, wound up being a whole lot more interesting than I'd ever expected.

Killing waves of Grunts is fun too, though :D

Great game...really surprising given my expectations. The only disappointment is lack of matchmaking on firefight. Anybody up for some Firefight? I can be found on GAF FireFight 3 (GT- ManiacMX) add me or join my game.

Well i just played a game of Firefight with my friend who just played for the first time and I'm pretty sure he killed me more than anything else. :lol

I just tried playing Legendary mode after Heroic. Tried the first mission again and ran out of ammo fighting off the enemy. Was I supposed to stealth through them? I have no idea what to do.

Beat the game for 2nd time on a different gamer tag 4 player co-op, didn't get achievements for beating last 2 missions or campaign complete.

Hawsome.

According to others in the thread you can explore the hub after completing the game.
Just want to clarify since this question has been asked a few times...

If your last save was made during the final mission, you won't be able to return to the hub, since you get bounced back to the main menu when you finish the mission/game. BUT, you can easily load the Mombasa Streets mission from the campaign menu, and all of the logs that you collected during your campaign run will be carried over. I think this method is actually preferred, since you can set the difficulty to something other than what you ran through the campaign with. Just makes it easier to do the collecting.

They did it on purpose. I only got one too and it says on the sleeve something about the full game coming with the bonus disc which you would get if you purchased it or something.

Didn't really bother me because I'm only in for the campaign and firefight.

So I finished the campaign on Legendary and it didn't give me the achievement... I looked at all the maps and it said I hadn't completed one of them on the Legendary difficulty, but I definitely had earlier that day. So I went back and did it AGAIN, and then it gave me the achievement. I don't get it. :lol

You can understand though, it's vital when playing Firefight :-)

Except when I'm screaming like a girl when a Hunter or a Chieftain pops out of a Phantom. :lol

Just finished the campaign on Legendary. It should have been DLC.

As in, it wasn't good enough to be a standalone game? I think the campaign is better than Halo 3 (though I haven't finished it yet).

So, our match lagged out of firefight yesterday when we were on Heroic Set 4, Round 2. No one was dropped, just kicked back to the lobby.

Today, we died at the bonus round of set 4, then the game ended. No achievements or anything. No dropped connections for anyone.

This is fucking bullshit and it is REALLY souring the game for me. Honestly, I don't even feel like going through all of that again. Four hours of my life I will never get back.

Whomever was the dense, confused, and sad individual at Bungie who thought it was a good idea to not let anyone QUIT out of firefight is an idiot. I understand not letting people join, but quit? Holy shit.

Same. I've had a much more enjoyable time in ODST Campaign than in Halo 3 Campaign. ODST is short, though.. but it's sweet.

By the way, I think the easiest map to get Endure is on Lost Platoon. I still need to try Alpha Site because I heard it was pretty easy as well, but I'm taking a break for a while. That 2:40:18 of playing Firefight on Heroic was a pain.

I am getting my ass fucked on coastal highway legendary.

because..
AI buck sucks so much ass on the warthog gun, making the 300 ghosts they throw at you on the 2 lane highway quite annoying. He yells about the ghosts, but decides to shoot at the goddamn dropship. I get out and disable one or two with a plasma pistol, but it only makes him more useless. Is there anything obvious I'm missing in my rage?

so I went ahead and bought it anyway.... I'm about two hours into it. I fucked LOVED halo 1,2 ,3, this seems solid so far, I like it.. but I'm kinda regretting the purchase. I think I'll be putting it for sale in the buy/sell thread before the weekend is out, but if anyone might be interested in buying it shoot me a pm. I think I'm just not in the mindset for this one right now (that and the fact that I can't do firefight with strangers and have no desire for the second disc at all :(

I love how the story is being presented though, very cool.

I think it should have been a budget priced DLC or expansion pack. That's not to say that I didn't have my fun. I liked a lot of the battles/firefights(haven't played the gametype yet) in the game because you weren't all powerful badass Master Chief. Playing as the ODST squad, it was a challenge to take down Brutes and Hunters. Overall, it just felt short and there were too many periods where you found yourself playing detective and not enough action. I'm not the type of gamer that HAS TO have that but it's expected from a Halo game.
