The Official Halo 3: ODST Thread

So are we to assume that whenever the Rookie finds a flashback item, the Superintendent is feeding him information about what happened to that squadmate? Or does he just fumble around with each object for a couple seconds before tossing it aside and heading to the next :lol

Loving the game so far (besides the godawful beeping when your health is low), taking it slow playing through the campaign on Legendary, four flashback missions completed.

I interpret it as him finding evidence that his squad was there, and maybe even a hint of what they were doing. After each flashback, he tends to stare out in a certain direction, as if he's trying to guess where they might have gone next. I think the Superintedent possibly guiding him along the path of his squad seems reasonable too.

The flashbacks are more for our benefit, because the Rookie doesn't actually know what happened at each location.

BioShock is about three times longer than ODST's campaign and it pushed much newer and more sophisticated technology.

ODST's Firefight will last much longer than multiple playthrough's of Bioshock (which had no MP). Tack on Halo 3 MP (Disc 2) and you have a much longer game.

I do think ODST should have been $39.99 though. Oh well, I'm enjoying it.

I also had team A.I. occasionally be stupid and do absolutely nothing. For example last mission spoiler:
I gave Dare a fuel rod cannon and rather than shooting shit, she'd run into the building and stand near the engineerintendent.

that seems to happen regardless.

There were times where AI partners would get stuck on things in the environment and I'd have to stick them with a grenade before they got out of it.

Is it me or is the A.I. actually worse than Halo 3?

(Edit: Don't get me wrong I like ODST better, overall)

Anyhow, I was on a warthog turret as an NPC AI was drove around. At times he would just stop and do nothing. I would then have to force him out of the driver's seat, move the vehicle forward and then climb back on the turret. Once he got back in the drivers seat he would drive correctly again. WTF?

Is it just me or can you not crouch while you're moving? Using Legacy sticks (I know, I'm already a second-class citizen) I have to stop pressing forward before clicking in the left stick has any effect. That is asinine.

Edit: I just checked and even with the default layout you can't crouch while moving. The fuck?

What about fire fight or playing co-op on legendary with 3 others?

Yeah, a couple of friends and I played co-op legendary last night and almost finished the campaign in one siting, today we're gonna resume, I have to finish my solo Heroic run and play firefight, but I'm sure firefight will be empty when MW2 hits the stores, I'd love to be proven wrong, tough.

I went through the campaign twice and have put TONS of hours into Firefight. I at least feel I am getting my money's worth.

If you think the game is overpriced, then vote "NO" buy not buying it or wait for a sale or buy it used. Problem solved. You don't HAVE to buy it.

Now stop bitching.

Good luck with that, guy.

So, that Heretic skybox... it's pretty cool, huh?

The last one got merged rather badly, because the only 2 places I could pancam out of the map were in pretty awkward spots for making panoramas.

What difficulty/map/score?

Easy, 1.5mil, Rally at night, 3600 kills and 1000 something headshots. (I had 8 lives but killed myself since I got bored)

What's weird is the highscore shows up on my profile while waiting in the lobby.

I did a Legendary co-op run already and it was fun, but there are a few stretches where the design breaks down a bit and people get very separated. A classic example is a pair of guys losing their Warthog while another pair blaze on. The two guys in back just trudge on for a looooooong time while the other two mop up all the enemies. Other times the wait for a respawn can be painfully long like
the fight with the Scarab near the end if you're trying to bring it down.
It won't allow respawns in that area, so if you die, you're sitting for 5-10 minutes until either everybody dies or they pass the section. We tried to not bypass that spot, so we had to reset to the checkpoint 5-6 times, and each time 2-3 guys were left waiting for a long time.

Overall though, Legendary co-op is a blast in ODST aside from the weird separation moments and the Mombasa street levels.

Not to be a dick but...

10 hrs to get 1.5 mil?

That seems like waaaaay too long.

yeah, I noticed more AI quirks on legendary in this than I recall from other games, but this game is more slow paced. Stuff like that kills the excitement of playing on legendary though. The corridor in data hive where there's like
39 brutes and a chieftan
is also another spot where the AI is also quite sad.

FUCK THAT CORRIDOR. Seriously. Worst part of the game.

People need to play more Firefight on Legendary. On my friends list leaderboards, I'm middle of the pack for all difficulties, but parked on top for Legendary. And I've only played a little of it. People need to man up! :p

Also - if you send me a FR, also send a note letting me know you're from GAF. I've probably nuked a bunch of GAFers FR's, mistaking them for randoms. I'm down for Firefight almost every night, GT GhaleonEB.

Sending you one, don't nuke me. DrBo.

I won't.

Edit: to add another log on the "Buck/Fillion in Reach" fire:

WP: Have you already started lobbying them to include Gunnery Sergeant Buck as a character in Reach?

NF: We've all kind of raised our eyebrows and said, "You know, it sure would be cool. I guess it would be fun."

Campaign question: Can Phantoms spot you on their patrol and react accordingly while you're prowling the streets as The Rookie?

If I'm near one of those "plazas" in the Hub(the big open areas) and fighting Covenant, then a Phantom will drop off a load of Covenant, but I've never had them shoot me when just walking.

Who's down for some Firefight? I'm trying to get the 200k achievements for Rally Point, Security Zone, Windward, Chasm Ten and Last Exit.

Edit: Oops! GT is Total Sacrifice.

Well I thought Halo 3 would be empty, but it seems like people all come back eventually. I mean yeah, both are FPS games, but two different universe styles should let both games co-exist nicely.

Finished
ONI Alpha Site and Kizingo Boulevard
today.
Kizingo
was fun, but
ONI
wasn't as great. Still alright though. Oh, I got Both Tubes and Laser Blaster too. Scorpion passengers FTW.

it was a bitch on legendary, but the problem with that part is that it exposes the poor AI. They hardly use cover and only approach you one by one. They have a goddamn chieftain backing them up and some brute shots. It felt more like a section meant to slow you down and add time to the level more than anything. I think you pretty much have to exploit their poor AI to progress.

Thanks, and I looked at the FAQ, and I'm still not sure on one thing: if I find all the audio logs in co-op, does the other player get the achievements as well?
I would like to know this too?

Since I always enjoy replaying every Halo multiple times, I just did a first playthrough on Normal, took achievements as they came (though if something like the 1/10 needler tally showeed up I made sure to fulfill that), found 22 logs.

Looking forward to a Heroic run next after trying to see how many more audio logs I can find independently. I also seem to have forced poor Buck to
awkwardly apologize for killing "1, maybe 2" engineers
near the end thanks to me being "Naught, Naughty" during the playthrough. :lol

Edit: I'm assuming the bit with Buck above varies...

he said the same thing and I got the achievement for not killing any.
