The Official Halo 3: ODST Thread

Finding matches for Firefight is one of the most annoying things about ODST, especially if you have friends who hate Bungie games. :lol

Even Horde Mode had matchmaking. I'm game if anyone wants to play.

Odd question, but are there any audio logs that aren't accessable until you do a certain flashback?

I've got 28/30 and from the guide I'm checking, I've gotten them all so far, i.e. none of the ones I don't have for sure are yellow atm.

Ah, ok.

So, started my Legendary Playthrough, and boy are Brute Shots cheap.
Tayari Plaza
was hard. Stupid
sniper jackals and hunters
. Also just finished
Uplift Reserve
for the second time on Legendary(Classic was my first). In Halo: Reach, can you please make it so that Marines fire at Wraiths and other vehicles, and not Grunts when they have Rockets? Please? Especially on Heroic and Legendary.

You're still missing one in the streets and the other is located in the
Data Haive
level.

One of the things I want from Reach is, no or very little multiplayer achievements. I've only recently been trying for them and they have been a pain, I've got a ton of Overkills, with no exterminations, and no killtacs.

So apparently I was high, because the E3 stuff was
the first 5 minutes of the game.

Why didn't anyone call me out and ask me if I'd gone nuts?

Or if there are multiplayer achievements, have them be Ranked and Social, with no Free For All achievements. Or if there are FFA ones, make them Ranked and Social, no Ranked only nonsense.

For those achievements, just wait until Grifball shows up. It's the easiest to try to get those ones in.

I'm gonna be one in about an hour...6MDT, 5 PDT if anyone wants to true getting Endure or some 200k achievements.

Just got audiophile, such an amazing finale.

For some reason though, despit having a full play through, I don't have the super sleuth achievement. How do I get it?

Got Deja Vu with a bunch of friends, man the amount of times my gunner killed me, himself or both... would have been hilarious had we all been in the room together.
Up to 27 audio logs... finding the last 2 is a bitch, anyone got any tips?

You played a full contiguous game, right? My first play through I forgot to save before jumping into a firefight and when I went back I had to start over. Instead I manually selected the mission I was up to and beat it from there. You do not get the achievement if you do it this way. it must be a straight playthrough. The only way to ensure this is to use the save feature and always resume from your save.

Edit:
Tips for Audiophile: When I had just 3 left I went about every sector of this map one-by-one:
http://www.msxbox-world.com/features/Halo-3-ODST/index.php

Be thorough and check for security doors. Most importantly, look for visual signs of the superintendent trying to direct your path. This will always happen when one is closeby (hopefully you know this by now). Also the last one is in the data hive mission. Do not watch the spoiler video. You cannot miss that one.

So is this game actually worth $60? I'm not sure if I should get it or not, I'm on the fence with this one.

For me it is, saves me map space on my hard drive, and Firefight has some charm I never found in Horde. Also, some people are claiming best Halo campaign ever, though I'm still undecided as I need to do multiple run-throughs like I've done for the other Halos.

Oh shit, I did something similar. Atleast that gives me some motivation to go for a second playthrough.

Problem with that is that I considered getting those in Grifball a pretty cheap way, plus I am really not a fan of Grifball at all, I really can't stand playing it.

The whole skulls on the Bungie website seems a bit broken though. I have a 5M skull yet they haven't updated on the career page my highest is the 500k skull like 5 or 6 skulls in. I wanted to know if I hit the highest one and I know its completely webbased so they could add higher ones but as of right now whats the last one and stuff.

For the little mini-skulls down there it has to be a higher score on Heroic. Not normal :(

Ahh I see the first ones are easy then normal and so on. So probably the highest one is a high Legendary score. A solid team of 4 could probably pull that off on Lost Platoon I'd imagine.

Yeah, Lost Platoon is awesome. I don't know if I could play a game of Firefight for more than two hours though, honestly. After the fourth set I feel like the game's over.

I'm available for Endure or 200k runs now. GT Thaedolus

It is a bit sad the difficulty stops ramping at around set 4 or 5. If you can survive past and balance lives lost with lives gained then you can basically go as long as you want, which is sort of counterproductive for the whole high score thing with leader boards and skulls. I guess both are cool in a way who can marathon the longest but I'd like to see who can survive the longest in incredibly hard situations. Would require a more advanced Firefight with more robust options, which hopefully we'll see eventually in newer games using this mode.

Alright.. I just played the third flashback (first with Mikey).

Game of the fucking forever.

I'm also enjoying the sub plot I'm picking up in the audio tapes.

Halo 3 = Pierce Brosnan Bond.
ODST = Jason Bourne.

My god, the encounters I've had with Hunters are just too fucking epic. They managed to make smaller scale battles feel more intense and dangerous than the giant set pieces in Halo 3. Bravo.

Also loving the night scenes. You really are encouraged to slink around in the dark and avoid the fighting.

Also, this game needs an auto-save. I had to replay about 20 minutes of the game because I turned it off without hitting "save and exit" first. I'm also slightly annoyed that you have to earn the achievements in one sitting.

I totally agree with this, and hope to see it better done in newer games. :D I also agree with what Ghal said a couple pages back (I think!), that after even the first set is done, you've basically seen all the enemies and how they work, and that maybe it would've been better to somehow....argh i forgot what word i'm thinking of. Fuck. I'll edit this later if I remember the word. :| Fail.

Besides Lost Platoon (or is there another vehicle map?), I do think there will be a point where it just becomes way too hard to progress on Legendary.

But it would be nice to see enemies swapped around and making it a bit more random.

Did anyone else think the night hub was cool at first then just got in the way? I was rushing to get to the missions about 2 or 3 missions in.

I'm only 3 missions in, but I like it as a nice change of pace from the structured levels.

It's like in a good song. You have to have quiet parts to make the loud bits have impact. The hub level slows you down, makes you play the game very differently and serves as a stark contrast to the bombast of the daytime missions.

Granted, I'm just starting the game, so my opinion could change later on.

A solid team with communication could probably stave off anything thrown at them in Firefight on Legendary on perhaps Alpha Site too if they use the Bonus Lives Glitch.

I did. It felt like playing the same boring area over and over again because everything looked the same to me in the hub.

This is the game's biggest accomplishment, I think. Even the smallest skirmish is challenging and satisfying. It's a combination of very sharp encounter design and the tweaked play mechanics.

I think that's partly why I'm not digging the vehicle missions as much as I normally would - once you hop in a vehicle, the distinctions between Halo 3 and ODST pretty much disappear.

That was a fun run Crunched. Even if it took us two hours. :lol

Just finished this now on Legendary 4p co-op. Last level was simply outstanding. The
highway chase was very intense, as we were engaging in battles, getting our vehicles blown up, while still trying to catch up to the truck before that got destroyed. Great sense of urgency. And then, the last stand in front of the building was a fitting final battle as well.

Awesome awesome game. Fantastic music. Good pacing, no significant filler. My favorite Halo game by far. This is a strong contender for my top spot as GOTY.

Agree on both counts. However, I do wish there were more vehicular Firefight levels. I mean, just one?

I said it was a fail because you both said the exact same thing but tagged different parts of your post. It completely cancelled out the effect of using a spoiler tag at all.

Whatever, forget it. Probably just another one of those little things I notice because I'm so easily amused.

Brute shot is useless unless you're pinned against a wall or are in a corner. Anyway, I've been making steady progress on Legendary. I swear, the missions with the
exploding building
and the sniper rifle dude especially are easier second time on legendary than they were first time through on heroic. I guess I was rusty.

Took out a hammer wielding Brute chieftan with melee today, that was good. Also had a jackle shield himself from a spike granade, thus redirecting the spikes UP into one of those floating platforms, taking out everyone inside. :lol

Two technically, if you count
Last Exit

I'd love to try that one with four players.
