The Official Halo 3: ODST Thread

I don't want to lose my campaign progress. And it's taken me well over an hour to get to this point.

ODST has some pretty big bugs in it.
Just finish your mythic run (by the way that sounds far more frustrating than fun) and go back to it quickly on easy.

Doesn't really even sound like a glitch though. The whole point of the 30th audio log
is the guy lives past the drones if you have 29 and opens up that last door. If he dies somewhere else down the line it's just as if the drones took him out.

Does the shooting feel the same as the past Halo games? The weapons never really felt like they packed a punch in those games, and I'm not willing to bite again unless it was overhauled.
Some say the sound is a bit different but I don't think it changes much. I don't see how it could be that big of a deal but if it really bothered you in Halo 3 it'll bother you in ODST. The two starting weapons (smg and pistol) just bounce off of brutes and feel like they don't do anything. Headshotting covie with the pistol is pure bliss though.

Honestly it almost feels less so. I don't notice the vibration as much and the weapon sounds get drowned out alot by the music or the audio logs.

There's also suppression on your pistol and your SMG, so that takes down the punch alot as well, at least sonically.

Playing on Heroic, Friendly AI is dumb. Regarding the driving...

Oh my bad. Sorry man. Yeah I heard the Driving AI was incredibly stupid prior to the games launch. I haven't had any issues with it yet (I usually drive).

Oh please, as if we all haven't seen moments of pure retardation from the game. Grunts will toss nades into corners of walls right in front of them, Jackals and Brutes sometimes just freeze and stand there, Jetpack Brutes will fly off randomly, and Hammer Chiefs are the most ridiculously kitable enemy ever.

Brute Shot, AR, and Carbine all sound much better than Halo 3.

It's got its low points, I'll give you that :lol

Never had more fun with enemies in an FPS than with the Halo series, though. ODST in particular has really impressed me with the AI behavior.

As for guns: AR especially seems like it's been beefed up.

Yeah a bit to quick on the click...moving on

Great atmosphere though. I like just being stealth and not engaging the enemy throughout, maybe taking out a straggler here and there.

He's invincible. I just restarted the level and plowed through, going faster due to better planning. Good ending to the side story, and I like how it ties into the main story so seamlessly.

Mythic has had a few bottlenecks, mostly on the sections where you have to survive waves of enemies. (Every time one of those pops up it's in a Firefight location, so it just feels like I'm playing Firefight in campaign.) Otherwise it just requires me to use lots of plasma weapons to strip shields, and be careful.

K, now Mythic + Famine go.

well got all 30 logs finally.

trouble is, I didn't pay attention for half of them and kind of missed most of the story :lol so it sort of confused me when
the cop told me I knew to much and took a weak shot at me before I turned my flamethrower on him, what's the deal there?

Cop was working for the big bad Police Chief featured in the audio logs. He was there to confirm the death of Sadie's father, which the Chief was responsible for.

I'm guessing that
he was one of Kinsler's men who didn't know his boss was already dead? That's what makes me question how long ago the events of the audio logs take place.

So now I have Recon for my Recon....Thanks Bungie, It would have been cool if people who had Recon already got something new. >

Holy fucking balls dude!
Just did nmpdhq.
What an amazing mission!
The "bridge" was terrifying!
I hate heights.

I was rockin' some ass with the chaingun, and I shit you not I completed a wave of brutes and was thinking how amazing it was as I looked at my ammo counter and I had 117 bullets left! :lol

I'm fairly certain now that this is my favorite of the series.
I really hope this isn't a one off.

You do know that you can play them as much as you want right? You probably do, but just wanted to make sure haha.

yeah it's just that I completed em last night and it was... quite long. what I didn't see until the last three though is if you look at the comm while they playing you get a little video or still pictures through the eyes of security cameras.

Yeah, I noticed this purely by accident.
I was thinking "might as well check my map while I tune in" and there were some quite nice little visuals to go alongside.

I listened to the first three and was REALLY loving them.
I still make a point to listen to ILB every year or so.
Can't wait to collect them all and just kick back.

For the first ten or so logs I found, I watched the animations that came with them, but I got sick of that and just ended up listening while I was walking around.

now I hate halo 3 single player but finished it on legendary...

Did the same with ODST, would rather play halo 3's again, the ending battle was rubbish imo

It the AI is driving a vehicle, it'll attempt to make its way to where you're looking, with a but of tolerance to not make it like you're able to shoot while still controlling the vehicle.

The Forerunner thing has always interested me intently. From the beginning, I wanted to learn more about the Forerunners. More than just tiny teases here and there. Like someone else once mentioned, with the Halo 3 ARG showing Forerunners in Africa, I had hoped we'd learn some more about Forerunners in Halo 3, and we did I suppose, but not a ton. Nonetheless, I hope that's something Halo 4 can delve into. I mean really, there isn't a whole TON more that Bungie can flesh out about the Covenant. In fact, the more and more the Covenant is fleshed out, the less fierce a foe they appear.

I've always thought that decision strange. Through the books, and the decisions made mostly in Halo 2 we learn a ton about the Covenant. Their internal politics, beliefs, etc. And once you learn that all that stuff they really did seem less the unstoppable force that they were in Halo: CE and reading about them in the first Halo books like Fall of Reach.
Not sure where I read this, but I think there is a planned trilogy of books that are intended to provide more details about the Forerunners.

There is. The next set of books is all about the Forerunner.

Heh - just a little.

Latest news from Greg Bear's website (posted after the ODST launch party in Seattle):

I've been talking and meeting and emailing with many of the creative folks behind HALO's games, novels and upcoming videos--and as soon as I finish my new novel, around the first of the year, I'll embark on an odyssey of my own--creating the origin story for the entire HALO universe.
"The Forerunner Trilogy" will be published over a span of at least a year and a half, and will reveal for the first time, in depth, the enigmatic builders of the Arks, the Forerunners. The series is currently set to begin about a hundred thousand years B.P.E., and will involve human origins, the struggle to avert the first appearance of the Flood, and many other Big Events only lightly sketched out in the Halo games. HALO fans are devoted, detail-oriented, curious, and--I hope--patient! Getting this right will take some time, but it's likely to be great fun. Expect epic adventure, many surprises, and interlinks with MYSTERIOUS FUTURE PROJECTS...

Really looking forward to the forerunner novels, i love the whole space opera Halo has become theres so many different plots or characters that can be explored. When do you think we will see the first footage of reach?

Thats the same thing I did when I listened to them the first time. I wanted to move a long and find the next one so I would listen to the current one while searching for the next.

Then I recorded them so I could watch them whenever and share them with others who did the same thing as me. The audio clips combined are over 45 min long...

I was thinking the other day... wouldn't it make sense for them to release some Reach info/footage right about the time MW2 came out? Try to steal some of it's thunder?

I just beat ODST and wow, what a ride. The streets of New Mombasa were awesome. I loved how I could spend as much or as little time there as I wanted. It had a great dark and lonely atmosphere and there were plenty of fights to be had. ODST definitely had the best storytelling of any Halo game and I think this bodes VERY well for Reach. Each level felt fresh and fun and interesting, and the final level was nothing short of epic.

Excellent campaign in every respect. Can't wait for my co-op Legendary run.

Caught this via Bungie.net

Reading through it, it appears to be one of those permanently offended feminists who cherry picks things to conform to her view that Bungie hates female gamers, or whatever, and ignores anything to the contrary.

For example, using comments from Romeo towards Dare at the very start of the game, but ignoring the countless jibes towards Buck from his subordinates.

it's really hard to take that writeup seriously when there are pics of samus and zelda staring at each other longingly on the same page :\

The way he spins his stick around is extremely annoying. Love how he said a blue player jumping up and beating him down was "cheating." :lol

"That kid got the sniper. He's clearly wasting it." Yeah, shooting blindly while in the mancannon when you had it was not wasting it at all.

I would love to get matched up with this guy (same team) and lose on purpose just to make him angry.

There we go. Really looking forward to this trilogy. It'd be pretty hard to choose between starting a new trilogy of books or the sequel to Ghosts of Onyx.

Has there been any word on a sequel? I really want to see what happens.

Wow that's messed up.

It's 16 player co-op. I got your back MidnightRider.

Today is the day, Halo Recon will be mine. The Covanent don't know what they've got coming, I'm so ready to run some grunts over with my Warthog. Now that Master Chef is gone there will be no more jeep-flipping, though, so I'll have to drive more carefully.

Up to 4 players online.

I can't seem to find it.

Well me and a GAFfer were going to play through together tonight. I bought the game yesterday and waited to play it till today so I wouldn't be up ahead.

***EDIT*** The guy that just posted is who I waited on.
