The Official Halo 3: ODST Thread

Forgot to post this last night and I stupidly forgot to save and check out the film, but me and Zayne managed to make Buck vanish during NMPD HQ - he was behind us and then some of the doors closed and locked behind us as we advanced and he was just gone for the rest of the map, we'd still hear him talk when he was supposed to though - http://www.bungie.net/Stats/ODSTg.aspx?gameid=40599674&player=Starlit - hmm, odd apparently I didn't get any kills during any of our missions last night, which is odd as distinctly remember killing things and getting an Invincible during Kizingo.

I think he was crushed by those doors. :lol :lol

Alright Halo GAF, help me out. Last night during Deja Vu, everything was great. But this morning when I turned the Xbox on, all the green was gone. I actually don't know if it was green that was gone, or blue or yellow, but it all looked weird. Greens were gray, blues were teal, and everything just looked plain weird. I'm putting up a video of it now.
Please HaloGAF, tell me my cords are loose or I just need new AV cords. I don't have the need for another coffin.

ODST bricked your console. Sue Bungie, get some profit.

Is this just for the 360? The same thing happen watching TV or playing another console?

hay guyz

I do not own any downloadable maps for Halo 3. I'd like play Rumble Pit, could I rent ODST for the 'mythic disk' and finally engage that playlist?

You have component cables? Sounds like the blue one is loose or broken.

They're easier to fight, that's for sure. Taking down(or trying to) an Elite on Halo 1 after dodging so many shots felt good. Then come Halo 3/ODST time, the Brutes just sponge up bullets.

Not as badly as they did in Halo 2, though.

Bungie needs to add another skull that keeps their monkey armor on, allows their shields to recharge, and where the Brutes only do their batshit rage action when you've got them cornered with their shields down.

THEN they might be as fun as Elites. They're actually pretty interesting to fight until they drop their trousers and start jumping at you in their skivvies.

It didn't look unplugged at first, but when I pulled the entire reciever out I could see it was just barely loose. I'm all good now. Phew, I thought I was going to have to ship the thing off again. Thanks everybody.

I would definitely be up for attempting Deja Vu.

If you're still looking for people. I'm game. (deja vu)

Gamertag is Rogosh

I just turned on my 360 to play a little Madden before trying to get a party together for Endure. E74 :(. I got the console in December 2005, but had it repaired for RROD in June 2007. What are my options HaloGAF? Am I screwed?

Ok, I'm having some issues here. I had a co-op splitscreen game going, up to mission 4, and I started a new co-op game online. Now, I know I can't resume the splitscreen game afterwords at the exact same spot, but couldn't I replay the latest mission then go to mumbasa and find the next one afterwords? I tried this, but it seems I have to replay everything just to get to a new mission. This sucks, I'd like to unlock new missions but it seems that I'll have to do it all one way uninterrupted or I have to replay everything. Feck.

Am I missing something here?

Trade it into GameStop for store credit and use that + cash to get a Jasper Arcade so you'll never have to deal with any 360 hardware errors ever again.

Did it RROD the last time, if not, just lie. I've had 3 """RROD""""- air quotes. I lied everytime and said it was a rrod and they just sent me a coffin, and they fixed it everytime! Got a free month of live too! But, I have 3 360's in the house though, each one has RROD!

Has there been any word on if/when Bungie are going to sort out the lag problems?

I've had the game over week and not played the campaign once because any game with 2+ friends is unplayable. Seriously, i thought Bungie were meant to be good at netcode.

No word yet. I'm not getting my hopes up.

If? Probably (hopefully).
When? Halo: Reach - Falls 2010

and oozer, just complain to MS support a lot. One of my E74s I complained about how I had already gotten the RROD so many times, and they changed the repair to a free one.

They're not going to do jack, they're done with ODST (unless there was some mass uprising of vitriol).
Personally I've been lucky, since that lag in one of my firefight games on the first night I haven't had a problem. But it's come up enough from alot of people, so I'm not saying your wrong. It's not good enough on Bungie's part.

Unfortunate, but I don't see any update happening.

Question: what kind of HUD re-inventions/changes do you guys want for Halo: Reach? Do you want a completely new HUD or just some of Halo 3's HUD materials simply moved around?

One thing I really, REALLY hope Bungie does away with (they did away with it in ODST) is Radar. The radar mechanic (the way it's implemented in Halo) is pretty cheap considering you simply have to be within 25m (I think?) of someone to be on their radar, regardless of whether you're shooting or not and whether you're two floors above or below the player.

People spend more time looking at a small, blue circle on the bottom left of their screen than the actual fucking game itself.

Without radar, not only do you start actually paying attention to the game, but you're more aware of your surroundings (or at least try to be) and can pull off those sneaky, crafty flanking tactics that feel so satisfying in a game like Halo.

And no, don't say no radar makes things more difficult, even for the casuals. Just remember that in this scenario, the person who's more skilled than the rest doesn't have radar, either. ;)

If we'll be playing as Spartans, and in the Fall of Reach the Spartans have Mark V armor, we'll have radar.

I like ODST's hud more so than Halo 3's, but that may be due to the increased FOV.

I enjoyed ODST without the radar, the map still contained the radar functionality, so it would be interesting if they kept the visor/map feature. I really liked it.

Damm, just completed the Deja Vu run, don't know whether it my gf's guest account or the strange lost connection message we got at the end (we all got it but we stayed in the party, oddly). Sorry we didn't get the achievement Louis, but that was fun and just like the annual, I'd be willing to do it again, anytime (and woot, no lag!).

I asked about that. Apparently H3 uses a completely different model for netcode in co-op than in multiplayer (the same model as H1's LAN games actually - synchronous lockstep).

The reason why the game pauses is to allow all the consoles to sync back up. If it just carried on regardless and tried to make other consoles catch up, it dramatically increases the risk of them going too far out of sync and getting dropped.

If you want to avoid this as much as possible, the best bet is to play with nearby players, and have a decent connection with very little packet loss; the more packet loss that occurs, the more the game has to pause.

And to be honest, bandwidth isn't really a problem for most any more, it's the quality of the connection that's the problem for the majority of people.

I would be fine without radar.
Because we still know nothing about Reach (who we'll be playing - BLUE TEAM, I WANT TO BELIEVE), I'm trying not to think about it.

call and say you have rrod, they will give you another one regardless whats actually wrong with it.

This isn't Major League Campaign kid. I bet next you'll be asking for BR campaign starts.

Get real.

BFG9000 Starts and a super radar. So you can kill anything on screen without even aiming.

From the Bungie Jobs Responsibilities:

Make the second-to-second gameplay experience accessible to as many people as possible.

IIRC the RROD warranty is 3 years from the purchase date, and isn't reset if you send it for repairs in the meantime, so if he bought his in 2005 he might be out of luck.

I know everyone will disagree, and no way it will happen, but I think it would be awesome if Bungie kept everything about Halo Reach secret until the day the beta comes out. Can you imagine booting up the beta having no idea of what the game looks and plays like? I would probably be shaking of excitement from head to toe as it loaded. Though I'm sure I will still be ecstatic even if I know everything about it before hand.

That can't really happen any more with the modern gaming media, but yes it would be fantastic.

The campaign in ODST seems great from what little I've played of it, but the Halo 3 engine needs an overhaul, it looked ugly as sin on a couple of the Firefight maps I was playing. I'm glad they are writing a new engine for Reach.

Keep the shield indicator from Halo 3 (I don't like ODST's red hud thing visually or functionally) and remove radar to increase map movement. Nerf melee lunge.

As long as they don't do it like MW2 where there is something going on in every inch of the screen, then I'm good with whatever they choose.

Ughh. I need one more achievement, not one of the hard ones either. Chasm Ten (200k). Any takers? I'm only a average player so would like to have 3 or 4 to do so.
Will leave my 360 on for another hour. send me a friend request if you want to do it.

thanks
