Post 10001 :lol

So i asked a few pages back, but is there a way to recover/change/update a live id? My buddy has his connected to his tag/bungie but it is corrupted so he cant log in and thus is locked out of the road to recon.

On Bungie.net? No, there isn't a way to change it.

Bungie says he's got two choices: Contact Xbox LIVE support and convince them to fix it, or start a new tag. Sorry. :(

If you have no idea what data you originally supplied to Xbox LIVE when you set up your account and you can't prove that you're the rightful owner of the account in question, you'll have to make a new gamertag and start from scratch. For security reasons, it doesn't matter one bit if your little brother originally set up the account - if you can't verify your own personal info, you are out of luck.

I went ahead and got the Audiophile achievement last night with a few buddies. Decided to play through it on Legendary while getting them. good choice. 275 gamerscore in one sitting.

NEXT UP: Endure

I just did a solo Heroic runthrough the other day, I have to say I thought people were just being arses about the fact the game seems much easier but honestly I think that is the least trouble I've had with Heroic by myself.

I thought it was easier as well. Even Legendary seemed easier than H3, though it was a while since I last did it.

Just finished the campaign this morning, and I have to say I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. The city did get a bit tiring after the first couple of missions, and it's obvious that I didn't take time to explore since I think I only got about 10 of the audio logs :lol , but the rest of the game was pretty top notch. There were some highly repetitious levels, but nothing nearly as bad as the Library or Cortana.

Great game, definitely glad I made the purchase.

You can alter your windows live ID for your xbox account, but you'll need create a whole new account on Bungie.net

I had the same problem. I had a profile on Bungie.net, Dax01, since 2005 or something. I created my xbox live account with another ID, so I had to stop using Dax01 and create a new account.

Got the game on Friday, just completed the campaign on Heroic. Here's my mini-review. Haven't read the thread or late previews/reviews to avoid spoilers.

Gameplay. Much more similar to previous Halo games than I had understood from the previous hype. The removal of shield regeneration and dual wielding don't change the game considerably. Also, it's still at heart a fairly solo experience, not the squad based tactical game I had thought it would be. Fun, core Halo gameplay with couple of removals.

Difficulty. Either this was much easier than previous Halo games or I've got better, but I didn't have any trouble blazing through Heroic. Checkpoints and health kits were plentiful, as were powerful weapons.

Storyline. I do appreciate seeing what happened after Halo 2, but somehow the game felt hollow and lacked soul. I felt that the hub world was a rather artificial, disorienting construct that didn't bring anything substantial to the game. The game was too short to give character to Dutch, Romeo and the others. Unraveling the mystery was a nice touch, but unfolding it wasn't too satisfactory given my lack of engagement with the characters. The main objective of the game was a nice plot twist, however.

Music. Some great tracks - but unfortunately mainly in the opening screen and ending credits. The score during the game was nowhere as massive as Halo 3.

Graphics. The age of the Halo 3 engine is really starting to show. The geometry feels barren and the lack of antialiasing is hurting the visuals a lot. Bungie still does amazing skyboxes, I'll give them that.

OVERALL. Fun few more hours of signature Halo gameplay. Don't expect too much of a challenge or an engaging story, just go in for the joy of shooting.

Is there any documentation out there on how to do this? I don't honestly think he even has a bungie account because the live id was corrupted but I could be wrong.

I guess I would just need to know how to fix the live id and then he can go to bungie and get set up.

Thanks.

I posted this in the dead of Friday afternoon/evening and I would really like to see other people's opinions of the music:

Not to completely change the topic in the thread, but did anyone else feel that the music, while great, was slightly amiss? We're in Africa, and the only 'essence' we get is a little bit of congos here and there. Not even a djembe or significant deep bass. That was kind of disappointing. Great tunes though that get stuck in your head, though some of the tempos are SLIGHTLY too slow and fail to compel the player forward (example: latter part of Skyline. REALLY? MORE distorted guitar that isn't even distorted correctly with the mood? And cheesy SciFi laser sounds?)

It just seemed to miss the mark, only slightly. It succeeded VERY well in making great ambiance, the piano/oboe segments are beautiful and fit with the atmosphere.

If Reach will be the scope that we all hope and pray it is (LARGE scale Covenant forces battling Spartans, ODST deploying around battlefields, rampant death), we need something a little more epic to fit appropriately with the scale. Full chorus with Latin wartime lyrics, tempo around 120bpm, with lots and lots of minor chord theory, French horns/lower brass, full, epic, DEEP percussion with driving string chords/melodies that make the player feel like a
PLANET is BEING DESTROYED.

(Marty please read this and take heed. I am an orchestral pianist, percussionist, woodwinds player, brass player with 20+ yrs experience in technical performance/writing earnestly giving constructive criticism.)

Hosting record is tied to console IDs? No wonder the MLG dudes buy a new console like every month.

Great read. Networking has always been a complicated subject for me to try to fully grasp and this helps a lot. It's very well written and organized.

You wrote this? It's very well done. Great job! :D

Thanks very much. Yeah, I wrote it, mostly when I had insomnia or was otherwise not of sound mind :P

Of course, I ended up missing a few things out, so I'll have to go and add those in at some point.

Couldn't disagree more. I'm quite weary of games (and films) using regional music when the setting shifts to a particular part of the planet. Tossing in some Congo drums and other African-themed music would have been jarring and entirely inappropriate for a Halo title. I thought the music was a perfect split between crystallizing the noir feel Bungie was aiming for at night, and the macho, testosterone-fueled action scenes with the ODST squad. And all the while, it still felt like the score to a Halo game, while managing to barely touch on any of the prevous themes.

As to the "scale" of the music, I think it was scored to reflect the story, which was decidedly smaller-scale than previous games. Epic themes and choirs were not needed, and would not have fit had they been there.

I thought it was arguably the strongest soundtrack so far. (And it's even more listenable as a stand-alone experience than the previous games, IMO. None of the previous scores have been able to put me in a specific mood and make it last as long as tracks like "Rain" have.)

Chasm Ten.

Or Rally Point (Night).

but definitely not Lost Platoon using Choppers. Totally doesn't work.

The only skull that gives me troubble is Black-Eye... as long as those maps are o.k with that skull active. I haven't tried Rally Point st Night yet... I'll try that one first. Thanx

I agree, I don't think changing the music to be more specific to the region would've been a good idea. For one thing this isn't the Africa we know today, if you didn't know it was Africa you probably could place it, it's just a futuristic sci-fi looking city.

lolz you do that

Just be sure the map has a LOT of Engineers on it.

Assuming nobody runs into the middle in the midst of a brute fight, yeah. Lost Platoon is a good place for endure too. Get 4 dudes on brute choppers and you're pretty much invincible.

I actually tried to get the 200k on Lost Platoon today. I had 9 choppers parked all over the place in case I died and needed another one :lol

I'd like to try and get all the other Firefight achievements but since I'm in college right now, buying 12 months of Live would be a waste =\

Well said!

As far as epic choir battle themes go, I love the music playing during the Halo 3 level The Ark. It's perfect.

We found a really fun way to get the Be Like Marty achievement :D

On Rally Point kill the gunner of a Wraith (we have only tried this on Normal difficulty, it may work on other Levels as well). Have a player board the Wraith and just hang there. As long as you protect him from grenade throwing Grunts, Hammer Chieftains and Hunters he should be fine. This also confuses the AI as enemies seem to gather around the Wraith and stand there watching, making them easy targets.

Yup, there's a time and a place for that sort of approach, and I'm delighted that Marty and company recognize that. It fit perfectly in Halo 3 - The Ark has some of my favorite tracks in the entire series - I have no doubt they'll be back, as appropriate, in Reach.

They already used the Halo theme in the announcement trailer for Reach, something Bungie avoided ever doing with ODST.

Glad you went through all the trouble to point these posts out to me in a 10,000+ post thread. Thanx a bunch :D I'll try Alpha Strike, but I don't really like Lost Platoon.

It's really simple. Got Endure the first time I tried the map. Grunts for the bonus round come out above the elevators on the sides, 2 windows on each side. When the timer starts, shoot rockets or fuel rods at them. Easy Killionaire.

I also don't like the idea of setting-specific music. Taken as a whole, the music would be inconsistent, and lack an overall theme.
It's an entire approach to scoring music that I find rather lazy. It's the paint by numbers of music: is you're in Africa, bring in the drums and tribal chants. If you're in the middle east, cue the wailing voices in the background. Games that seek to define themselves through music and art, rather than setting, are always more compelling to me. Marty and crew have always done a remarkable job a creating a distinct identity for the Halo games, and I'd hate to see them resign some of that to be slaves to the location the writers came up with.

What is going on here...also anyone care to explain the extra scene from the Legendary ending?
I think that scene is just showing the covenant finding that machine under new mombasa that will open the portal to the Ark

That's not the good part. The Easter Egg only became visible if you pushed LS left at the right time during the Legendary cutscene.

I know, and I'm still laughing at that.
It's like he's in love with the monkey, and yet, afraid
:lol

But ShinAmano asked for an explanation of the Legendary ending

The fact that your enemies have to wear you down a ton just to get to your health is pretty much the same as the shield from the previous Halo games :lol
