The Official Halo 3: ODST Thread

I has a problem! =(

I keep losing all my melee encounters and since I can't really say "melee is broken!" anymore, I blame the button layout for making me take too long to press the button! >= [

I remember you guys talking about button layouts on the Halo 3 thread

So which would you suggest? And do you think it's too late for me to change it now?

BUmper Jumperrrrr

Thanks :D

Do you think I'll be able to get used to it after all these years with the default layout?
What do you mean you keep on losing melee encounters? Against what? Brutes? If you're playing on Heroic or Legendary, especially Legendary, it's never a good idea to try and melee Brutes.

Actually no. My friend and I were still always in the top 3. It's not like I didn't know how to play the game anymore. It's just that it's just not 'good enough' anymore. Modern Warfare really feels like a generation ahead in terms of multiplayer, it's really hard to go back. (I'm talking multiplayer, I love the singleplayer campaigns in Halo more than in any other FPS)

No, I mean online. Sorry for not mentioning that

During an encounter with a guy, I deal the most damage, but because I take more time to reach the melee button, he kills me

Yes, absolutely. Just play some campaign to get used to the motions before you jump into MM. Bumper Jumper is the best thing to happen to the xbox controller since forever.

Edit: member'd, woohoo!!

Truly amazing job with the city. There are WAY more details during the day. When I get time I'll post a comparison.

Think its more of you simply just don't like the style of gameplay compared to MW. They all play differently, and people develop favorites. Don't think it means Halo's gotten stale or anything.

What's everyone's tips for Endure?

Our team got to Set 3, Round 3, Wave 5 and got wiped out by Chieftans on ALPHA SITE.
- IGN recommended Lost Platoon, but it's too open and awful to be honest.

Alpha site was where I got it.

We put two to each side...one person usually picked up the plasma cannon and another the rocket launcher...save both for a) bonus rounds b) chieftans c) plasma cannon brutes

Watch each others backs and call out enemies.

Also on the later levels use plasma pistols to take care of tilt brutes...and stay out of the middle.

Save rockets for hunters and chieftains, that's the strat me and couple other gaffers used and we finished endure with about 10 lives left.

I soloed Lost Platoon on Heroic all the way up to the last wave of set 4. It's by far the easiest level to get it on.

You shush, nub!

Actually yesterday I had my first, "fuck, If I used bumper jumper I would have been better off in that situation, moment"

Still not going to switch though. I'm too proud and stubborn lol.

It's a Sunny quote ya nub.

You don't even deserve that avatar.
That was a Sunny quote, too. nub

Or, at least, I probably thought it was when I wrote it last night. I can't really recall getting on GAF last night very well, so whatever.

That's basically what we did. We just weren't ready for Cheiftans I guess.

Here's our heatmap from that game:

I'll try soloing Lost Platoon...

Yeah that's definitly the easiest one to get
Got over 650 k on that one

Just keep boarding choppers and be sure to "park" them inside all of the small houses in the map
So in case you die, when you spawn, you'll already have a chopper waiting for you

Just doesn't seem easy in my mind, but I'll give a shot.
IIRC you still need 3 other people to get the achievement. Just keep your teammates in line, making sure they're all in choppers at all times, stockpiling more choppers by the spawns for respawning players. If you do this you'll have the achievement in under 2 hours with tons of lives to spare.

Speaking of which, I might be getting a year of Live this week.

Would anyone be interested in getting all the vidmaster achievements?
And I'd gladly assist anyone who needs help with any of the other achievements

Depending on the day I may help with Endure/Annual (I already have it) but just depends on my plans...hit me up when you know more.

Just got the Endure Achievement after getting robbed yesterday in the second-to-last wave of the 4th set... :lol

We got it on Alpha Site with 28 lives to spare in one go a few minutes ago, thanks to the practice we had yesterday from our match lagging out, and the joke is that at the EXACT same wave on the EXACT same set (4th set) at practically the same time (1 hour and 59 minutes into the game) the match started to lag for the first time that whole time - it was like all of our hearts stopped at the same time... :lol

It was definitely a fun way to spend 2 hours on my birthday with friends after coming home to chill...

Also true, but I can do the levels to get a feel and go for 200k that I'm missing for levels (including that one).

Sounds like quite a reward. Weather's pretty bad here. Not sure if my connection when our group plays tonight will be good.

Yeah I was top player in the match, so hopefully the rest of my teammates can keep up.

You in Northern Cali? Weather's pretty bad out here too.

So I just started playing this Facebook game called Farmville... its terribly addicting. However, after playing it, I sincerely hope there are things like this in Halo that reward longevity in a game besides just bars in multiplayer. I really enjoy that you unlock newer things, and that content is constantly being added.

So I've started my campaign run with Iron activated (on Heroic). It's making the campaign so much more frantic and fun to play. The levels are just short enough to where if you do die towards the end, it's not such a kick in the nuts as it was for H3. Loving it so far.

65,460 on Tayari Plaza
150,785 on Uplift Reserve
241,003 on Kizingo Blvd.

I should have died at least 3 times on Kizingo Blvd toward the end, but miraculously pulled through it. Hot damn I love this campaign. :D

?

I haven't been able to get online for days now, the neighbour's wifi connection refuses to play nice with my 360.

Ah well.

Wonder if we'll get a podcast come this friday's BWU.

woot glad to hear! did you try not using an XBL party? if so do you think it helped? just wondering.

Finished Deja Vu and also got the Legendary Achievement at the same time. The team then and did Windward for the 200,000 Achievement. What made that interesting was discovering after the match that 2 of the 4 players were going for "Be Like Marty" and got it.

Just thought I would post this here, it may be relevant to anyone in the same situation as me or anyone generally that uses wifi with their 360.

Right, I've been having issues with my xbox connecting to a wifi signal (in this case, my neighbour's wifi, whom I have paid to use until my own internet connection is switched on). No matter what I did, it just wouldn't fully connect, or it would, for a while and then lag out. It's been so bad that for the past few days I have been unable to play at all. A few days ago when I could play, apart from the occasional decent "good" patches, I would lag out randomly and any game featuring more than 8 players would freeze me out.

I use the official 360 wifi dongle and like my 360, my computer, with which I also use a usb dongle, was also having issues connecting. My PS3 too was having issues but my girlfriend's laptop and my PSP were just fine and would connect each time with no issues.

After trying everything I could think of, I gave up. However this morning my computer was struggling to connect and I had some important issues online that needed addressing. I was waiting for a while and looking at my usb dongle, struggling away. I noticed the dongle and computer had a big metal fan beside it, alongside some other pretty obvious obstructions (obvious in retrospect).

I went away and dug around my Drawer of Stuff (everyone has one, right? Full of random crap you keep away because someday you think you may use them?). I pulled out a simple foot long USB cable extender, hooked it up to my PC and reconnected my wifi dongle, now clear from obstructions. My signal was much stronger and it connected immediately. I decided to do some testing and found it worked consistently, and then I decided to push my luck and try it out with the 360.

My 360 is tucked just behind my plasma TV and beside my PS3 and, as you'll notice, the 360 wifi dongle sits behind the 360, essentially barricaded behind a wall of electronics. (Again this is all obvious in retrospect! =P) So I hooked up the trusty USB extender cable to the 360 and clipped off the 360 dongle and placed it away from the 360 and any other obstructions as far as it would go.

My 360 now connects each time without fail and my signal is as strong as it will get. I've seen a definite marked improvement.

tl:dr

Anyone that uses wifi with their 360, using a USB extender cable and placing the 360 wifi dongle away from the 360 (and other obstructions) may help improve your wifi signal quality.

I went from lagging out badly to connecting consistently. It just may help. =)
