The Official Halo 3: ODST Thread

Let me know when you want to get on. We need more people, no?

I can help, except for The Ark(I really do need to get my disc fixed..). This is just going through and beating the levels, right? Or is this for Annual?

That'd be me. And I still do. =)

What did you need help with? I'm not exactly sure I'm the most ideal person to play co-op with since I don't use a mic since I can't hear people over Xbox Live clearly. Also the fact that we live in two different continents.

I'm out.

Just some unfinished business, namely finishing a few levels on legendary, tilt and thunderstorm skulls and some of the meta-scores.

Thanks for the offers of assistance folks, I'll be on in a few hours and I'll invite whoever's on at the time, and I appreciate the help. =)

You've helped me tons of times. So I'll gladly help you too :D

Let me know here when you get on, ok?

And the terminals. And Used Car Salesman(Covenant, splaze a Prowler) and Headshot Honcho(The Ark, at the beginning, or if you're like me, through the whole level using the Sniper because I want to pretend it's Truth and Reconciliation).

Those who have Halo Waypoint, I suggest you check it out, they have some good back stories and some vids up.
Yeah, I saw on the Twitter account that they've got something called "Ten Twenty." Wish I was in the preview.

Got both Living Dead achievements and the Bulltrue on a Mythic Map this morning. Living Dead was originally fan made wasn't it? I've always enjoyed it.

Yeah, it started as a custom gametype in Halo 2, I think. I've been having fun with it this weekend. Some of the gametypes just aren't fun (Creeping Death and Speed Demons) but when it's normal Braaains or Save One Bullet, it's a nice break from normal Halo for me.

Anyone up for Last Exit 200k on Heroic later tonight? I can do it on Normal but it takes way too long. And I friggin' hate the Chieftains on this level more than anywhere else.

Have you tried the ghost?

Got my full 1000G's for ODST now, and unlocked Recon. Just need 'Save this Film', Have Fun Respawning and Killtacular for Halo 3!

Anyway - does anyone else still have that annoying niggle at the back of their heads that they've been slightly swindled with Halo 3 DLC?

If I choose to trade ODST in now, despite having bought and paid for 3 batches of DLC already, then I'm essentially locked out of the full Halo 3 multiplayer experience. And there's nothing much I can do about it - not even given the opportunity to buy the final 3 maps and just play them from the original game.

Halo 3 itself somehow feels incomplete.

It would surprise me quite a bit if they were never offered for download. From the naive consumer POV, you buy Halo 3, expecting to be able to play it in some capacity, with the option to open up more content with DLC. To buy the game, and learn that you actually can't take part in some of it's multiplayer, with no direct solution other than buying a completely separate product, is just not goods consumer sense.

On a personal level, I do feel under-appreciated for buying previous DLC. I feel let down that despite 2 years of play time, and money spent, the end is that I essentially had to buy the whole of multiplayer again. Slightly conned, to say the least. I realise this is mostly down to MS, but where are Bungie's balls?

I also wish we had a sign from MS/Bungie that these maps would some day be released, and preferably soon.

The Reach Beta is absolutely tempting, but ODST has had short legs, and the genuinely very poor net code has left me with a bad taste in my mouth for both campaign and Firefight. It's extremely tempting to trade it in for Modern Warfare 2.

Can't say I have. Is it possible to splatter an invincible hammer chieftain?

I'm trying to get 200k solo so I'm up for more suggestions.

Using a ghost is probably the best thing you can do.
You can't splatter an invincible hammer brute, but you can stay away from him while he's invincible and then splatter him.

Use a plasma pistol to take out a ghost, board it and use it 'til another one shows up.
Once that happens, park your old ghost in one of those ramps on each side. Board the new ghost and in case you lose that one, you'll have your old one waiting for you.

It's perfect for shooting buggers from a safe distance and you can just splatter everyone else

I beg you Bungie, for Reach, do not put in the idea of not being in party chat for certain playlists like MW2 is doing.

Holy shit at forced no private chat. Bungie'd be stupid to do that.

Also Last Man Standing. Be the last human alive in a round.

And according to the Halo wiki, there was going to be a medal for 15 infections in a row called Is Quisnam Protero Damno. Damn, that would mean you'd need to play a 16 player game of infection with one starting zombie and infect everybody. Good thing that was removed.

Wouldn't really exist, because you start with 3 zombies in most gametypes. Hell the MMM Brains is technically impossible unless you get every human and all the other zombies dont get any humans, and you do it all in one streak without dieing, and its a full game. Its technically impossible and would love to see a video of a legit one.

I managed to get an Infection spree killing 5 humans in a row and felt like a god last night.

Why not? If your party splits, the "party" player on the other team could reveal location of the "enemy."

By leaving party chat?
Edit: What was I... Ate too many jelly beans on an empty stomach. Never again.
There are better defences of what IW are doing (think it vaguely sucks actually, but want to see how it's implemented before completely decrying it).

Eh, don't really care. In Halo there's no benefits to being in chat unless you're in a game that you'd normally have to press to talk. Merguson has a good point with the party splitting but if that shit's still in Reach I hope I can still coordinate with my party to sabotage those games. If they added a spectator mode like they did in firefight that'd give them a good reason to disallow it but if that's not the case I really don't see them doing it.

When I get split up I usually hide in a corner and then go make a sandwhich for 10 minutes. No point in getting my ass handed to me by my own friends.

Annoys me when people who get split up help the other team. I usually take the rare splitting as a good chance to kill my friends.

Has anyone got a satisfactory explanation for why the Covenant call the Rookie 'the Imp'? Is this a pointer that he's proven himself in combat before, or just that it's a nice relation to Demon and has no canonical explanation, or have I just misheard a line?

That's what customs are for. I'll usually grab a warthog and drive my buddies around. It's bad enough playing stacked games, but doing so against the party you set out to play with sucks ass. If it looks like there's a chance the game will be even I'll usually play but I went in with a party so I didn't have to play with randoms. As much as it sucks to have that guy you got split work against your team, party splitting is the most fucking retarded, inexcusable thing Bungie does with MM so I don't really hold it against them.

Oh it probably will, sir.
You guys will be so fucking old once Reach is out. And old people are grumpy and cynical by nature.

When does he say this? Perhaps I can illuminate once I get some framing

I must have missed that memo.
Well I figure there are two ways old people go. You have your golly grandpa's that always have a wrinkly grin on their decrepit faces as they casually spray their ARs at anything resembling a player. Then you have your grumpy old men who can do nothing but remember at how good they once were at twitchy videogames and try as they might to wield a BR, their skills disappeared much like the hair on top of their heads.

Just think, you won't have to drink a milkshake while playing Reach.
I'm going to be drunk off my alco-shakes playing the Reach beta. I'll be the young, pre-WoW Bood's replacement.

Let's hope the Reach beta thread doesn't up like the H3 did with ten pages of moaning about the beta download not being available come midnight of whatever date (and then slightly delayed for a few hours). It was made worse by those that got in early, hyping up everyone else to F5 spamming craziness.
