The Official Halo 3: ODST Thread

Ber Ber Creek on Bungie Favourites this week. :D
Sweet, latest version too. I get a lot of messages claiming someone wants to put Ber Ber on Bungie Favorites but this is the first time someone's actually gone through with it.:lol

And it's really nice to see they've got the points to sell now. Seems like I could make that choptage fairly cheaply (much cheaper than getting a capture card). Just need to find the time to start rendering it all.

Yes :D

I just got matched up with LegendJRG in MW2. He won 30-6 lol. Hes so good his aim is just quicker than mine straight up. Played like 15 games with him, dudes KD must be ridonculous. I almost beat him the last two games too!

Sorry for the microbump, but this seems like the all-purpose halo thread for now. I've read 4 of the Halo books (Fall of Reach, First Strike, Ghosts of Onyx and Contact Harvest). I enjoyed all of them (except for Harvest) and have been wondering if I should buy The Cole Protocol. Based on the ones that I have enjoyed in the past, will I enjoy this one? I'm not sure if I like the first three books because I enjoy Eric Nylund's style (he is a seasoned sci-fi writer, after all), because I enjoy the SPARTAN stories, the forerunner mystery, etc, or simply I disliked Contact Harvest for some reason or other (no offense).

Also: do any of you guys know if the books are available in Spanish? I have recommended the books to a friend who's not entirely comfortable reading in a different language, so I'm trying to track them down, but I don't even know what they're named. La caída de Reach? Primer golpe? Fantasmas de Onix? Thanks for your help!

Google says none of the Halo novels have been released en Espanol.

For the books in spanish just look up Halo, they wouldn't change that aspect of the title so if they are available, it would be under that name.

If you liked the first couple books then you should like the rest though mileage will vary on a book per book basis by person. Maybe look at reviews on amazon or something to see if it seems to have a more positive average score over Harvest.

I found this (http://www.scyla.com/halo/libro.php), though the info is a bit confusing. It says some of the books are still to be released (2010 it would seem), but others are already released. Haven't been able to find a store in my country that sells them, but now that I have the ISBN I can probably finish the fight myself :D Thanks!

Yeah, I figured as much, though I just want to read the book without any spoilers and don't tend to give much weight to amazon reviews. I'd rather hear recommendations from you guys, but I guess I'll just buy the book and give it to a friend or whatever if I don't like it. Thanks a bunch! :D

If you liked the other four, then you will probally like Cole Protocol. It's a great read, but personally I would not put it on par with the other four. It definately uses smaller words and is not near as sophisticated as the others. It's extremely easy to read and is dumbed down. Still a good read, but not near as nice as the others by Nylund or Staten. I'm not too into Tobias.

Hahaha, I'm sure they're all good at CoD. I'll bet that MLG is gonna pick up CoD and there are gonna be some Halo players that cross over or do both.

My roommate and I were talking about Reach and how he was disappointed that he knew how it ended or whatever and we thought of a brilliant ending for Reach. We all know CE opens right after the events of Reach so why not have Reach end with a redone cutscene of CE's intro in the new engine. In a perfect world they'd have redone CE in its entirety :D

I had a thought of them recreating the first mission from Halo in the new engine as a coda, and ending with a cinematic of the drop pods crashing on Installation 04 - and that first epic view of the ring stretching out into the distance over the cliffs.

And then I had to do some clean up.

Perfect material for the Legendary ending, kickass bonus cutscene and kickass bonus level.

If they start on it today, they might have it ready in time. :lol

I'd love a direct tie in to CE, I'm almost sure we'll get one too.

That'd be perfect. Bungie ending their last (doubt it, but I hope it is, want to see their New IP announced before 2012 "kills us all" :p) Halo game with the imagery that made most (some?) gamers first love the Halo series.

Words cannot describe how amazing this idea is. Do it Bungie. DO. IT.

Excellent thinking, I would love to see that.

I support this notion.

That would be awesome but it should be available whether you play it on Easy or Legendary. AKA I don't play Halo on Legendary.

Right, a cinematic that leads to one of the best Halo levels ever.. and then the credits roll. That'd be worse than the H2 ending xD

Unless they had the cutscene after the credits and had something to the extend of "A few days later..." before the cutscene. This is just a pipedream anyway, it's not like we'd get this.

We'll get one in the vain of ODST's, with the unveiling of the Halo ring. :lol

Lol fuck that. It's frustrating beyond belief for me and is not even fun. The only fun I had was 4 player legendary on Halo 3. We didn't even finish the game either. Also, why play the campaign again when I can dookie on kids in MLG?

I simply love the irony in all these MW2 sales. Where are all the PS3 fanboys who complain in Halo threads about the rehashed gameplay within Halo iterations and a short campaign in ODST ? MW2 takes what fanboys bash Halo for and multiplies it by 10. And yet you all gobble it up. Deliciously ironic.

IGN reader number 2 said:
Seriously you believe the crap that you are stating. Halo ODST had a short campaign like MW2, check your correct, ODST had firefight just as MW2 has spec ops check your correct. But ODST didn't have a new multiplayer not even a beefed up version of the original just 3 new maps. Although I agree they are close and I think neither of them deserve the hype, MW2 wins because it atleast has a beefed up multiplayer.

Thanks for the lolz

I want Bungie to think outside of the box for Reach's multiplayer, keep the same basic gameplay but add a lot more wrinkles. Equipment was a step in the right direction, but I feel the execution was miserable for most of the items.

Playing MW2 and getting to control helicopters, missles, airstrikes, jam radars, etc. is so much fun, they really made a huge next step in their multiplayer game.

I don't want to see another game where they play it safe, I want to see some really new and fresh ideas brought to the table to further flesh out their base MP experience which is already awesome. Allowing you to pick your starting weapons would be a good start, could end the BR VS. AR once and for all. :P

I kinda like Halo multiplayer the way it is..
That was fine and all for Halo 1, 2 and 3. The formula is getting stale. Time to innovate, not refine.

I really hope Bungie goes all out and doesn't doubt any feature, like when they doubted the screen shot feature.

A quick Halo lore question (not sure if it even belongs in this thread so excuse me if it's not), I just finished Chapter 8 in Fall of Reach and was wondering how come we still use flash lights when playing as the Master Chief. Spartans have a natural night vision or at least are capable of seeing things clearly in the dark so how does Bungie explain that? Are the books part of the canon or are they separate from the games?

This has probably been asked before back when the book was first released so I would appreciate any one pointing me to a link covering that stuff if possible.

Do you guys know something we dont? Seriously. I hadn't even thought about it but that seems like the only way to finish Reach.

I'm not sure about recreating the first level of CE but an epic cut scene showing the Pillar of Autumn's escape would be amazing.

Strike commander is my goal too. Only 200 more exp.

They can innovate and keep modes/playlists for classic halo gameplay. But yes some new game play style/modes would be great. They just gotta keep it accessible to the vets at the same time and not close out the game completely to a new style.

Mind you I actually wouldn't mind that if that was just a gametype mode. As long as my normal Halo TS TD and MLG was still there.

Besides starting with a Sniper and BR with cloaking on would allow me to absolutely dong all over kids.

Killstreaks are lame, some customization perk like system would not be bad idea if it didn't get ridiculous. I would personally like to see some Battlefield like game modes since the game already integrates vehicles so well that a warfare type of mode and gameplay would be fun with Halos feel.

I don't think they're "lame" I just don't like the relentless pounding in the behind, followed by aerial butt-pounding. I like the concept, I just don't like when it happens to me.

This is exactly how I feel about it. The other day I was playing MW2 and I was kicking ass. I was getting all kinds of kill streaks and dropping all kinds of shit on people. It was awesome. But then, yesterday I matched up against a team. There were predator missiles and harrier jets every 30 fucking seconds. It was slaughter. I guess you could say that about every game, no one likes getting their asses kicked, but this one rewards the ass kickers like crazy.

Just picture in Halo if you went on a killing spree, you got overshields and a rocket launcher. It'd be fucking insane. You would get campers all the time, people trying to keep a spree alive. It happens in CoD.
