Ghost Town, I read, is supposed to be similar to Turf.
Where did you read this? The reveal only said it was similar to Lockout, Warlock and Sanctuary.

Sanctuary is another awesome Halo 2 map that was secretly better than Lockout. It was also one of the few maps I was good at.

Going through them now. :)

The inherent risk in any such secondary system is that it could encourage people to act in a way that contributes to their secondary statistics and not to the team's victory conditions. A good example might be if you awarded some kind of secondary prize for kills in an oddball game, and several of your teammates ignored the ball completely, and just went for kills, costing you the win.

There is one secondary recognition you can get even when you lose, which is MVP. The stat isn't perfect, but does show players who were very strong contributors to their team.

What about if Bungie made a secondary system and didn't tell the players?
Or just made doing secondary things not as important as winning.
For example, getting the most kills in an oddball game would only rank you up after doing it 5 times or whatever.

MVP should rank up or at least get some skill/EXP for it.
Even if they are on the losing team.

A secondary system that no one knew about or understood would just be frustrating (like how the MVP is awarded). And making it take 5 games or whatever wouldn't stop people from going after it. That would just increase the amount of games that people spend doing it.

So, what's the deal with kicking our teammate for betraying you? In Halo 2, it seems like we had that option all the time, but it seems like it never comes up in Halo 3. One time, I rounded a corner right as my teammate threw a grenade, and the grenade killed me. I was given the option to boot him. Another time, a guy on my team assassinated me twice because I had the Long Rifle and he wanted it. No such luck.

It must take serious effort to quit that much. What a loser.

FYI, you do get EXP for being the MVP on the losing team, probably why the losing team has the MVP so often.

Yeah, I'm convinced Bungie has no automated way of banning anyone. In the latest BWU they said they had people going individually over each potential winner's game history to check for cheating. You'd think they'd have something more sophisticated then this :P

Probably have something in place for people hacking but anything else goes unnoticed.

That's one interpretation of the events, sleazebag. I remember many a Bruteshot double-kill from on high saving your ungrateful ass.

WE DON'T KNOW THAT THERE WILL BE LOCKOUT!!!!

Give me Turf, Midship or Ivory Tower over Lockout any day of the week, Bungie. Any day of the week.

I know, I know. I was merely fantasizing over the thought itself. :lol

But yeah, I wouldn't mind at all if Midship or Ivory Tower was put in instead of Lockout. In fact, I'd probably prefer it. Guardian is already quite similar.

As for Turf. Yeah, I'm not the biggest fan of Turf. I'd go so far as to say I dislike it. Dislike it a lot.

You can't deny it, every time I turned around you were there to kill me.

Enemy. We should have an internet fight. I shall write long posts explaining the greatness of Turf, but later resort to rampant sarcasm and all-around nastiness. You should use the fact that you are a higher rank than me to explain snarkily that low-level players like me don't understand what makes a good map. In the end, we'll have Ghaleon beg us to be nice, and Urk can derail the fight by talking about fecal matter. In the end, the fight will stop abruptly, with both of us putting each other on our Ignore Lists.

Ready? Go.

Like Backwash? That was one of my favorite maps. So atmospheric. Lots of good customs on that one.
Backwash was good. Limited amounts of Battle Rifle and no grenade starts on the map. There were some grenades lying around but not much, so it made it enjoyable. The bases were also symmetrical and the overall map layout was nice, if I say so myself.

It was taken off MM, from what I understand, because of the 360/Xbox game emulator. When somebody had the invisibility, it caused some weird framerate lag. But instead of simply removing the item itself, they removed the map. :|

There were probably some balance issues as well. I remember there being an insane amount of framerate lag on Colossus with the ninja games on there. They took those out soon after. But Backwash had potential to be a great map. I didn't mind the BR starts in Hardcore because it was so hard to see very far in front of you. And there were hardly any grenades, which automatically makes it awshum.

Get back to me once you've won a game of Halo, kid.

Oh shoot.

[Ghaleon, please break this up quickly, I have no response to this serious case of burn]

Well I picked up Halo 3 tonight at Future Shop. The tag said $59, but the clerk rang it up at $49, so that plus my copy of Aliens Director's cut came to $70. Not too bad a night. :)

I'll be heading over to the gamertag thread to begin adding some of you guys. Hope to see you online.

True.
How the MVP is awarded is mindboggling.

Really? Thanks for the info.
Can you rank up as the MVP on the losing team?

I finally got to Colonel today.:D

Great pics. Your kids, I take it?

Reminds me that my mom desperately wants good photos of my awesome little niece. I should call a photographer and get some family photos going especially since my mom's birthday is this Thursday. lol

yeah, mine. Ages two (almost three) and five, Bridget and Natalie, respectively. We haven't done professional photos in a few years and just did these yesterday. I couldn't come up with a better way to restore civility. :)

Hush. Putting an end to all grenades is JD's big thing. And he gets sort of upset when you disagree. But I still love him! Even if he doesn't love me.

*Adorable Kids*
Plz post pictures of your kids looking disgruntled so I can steal them for my next avatar.

Also, your kids are cute and all, but I need to go on a little rant: If I ever have children (god forbid), I would never take them to a studio to get pictures. A picture should be able to reflect something about what's in the picture, and I don't feel that cheesy, staged photos from a studio do that. I'd much rather take my kids to the park, and get a photographer to come along and take pictures of them being natural.

Oh, and somewhat related: I'm really tired of people I hate sending me Christmas Cards with pictures of their ugly-ass kids. I don't care if you're in my community, or even my nieghborhood, I regularly imagine myself setting you on fire, and I don't want your shitty pictures.

...So yeah, cute kids. Can't wait for Tuesday!

I actually agree, which is why it's been four years since we had them done last. It's artificial and very frustrating and confusing for the kids. My wife had these done spontaneously while I was at work. But I have to admit, they turned out well.

Yeah, I remember hating having my picture taken in posed photos when I was younger. But, they're nice. Your kids are cute. Congrats.

What's with all the hate against Halo 3? For a thread on good games with BAD graphics people are listing Halo 3. Sure they may be a disappointment to some but they are definitely not BAD. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=256705&page=6
I think the game looks very nice, it just has some troubles with teh jaggiez.

We should get back at those people by invading the thread and saying Killzone has bad graphics!

j/k

Constructive criticism never hurt Bungle.

And EazyB, after many months of bitching at you for being too high of a rank (19) in RBTB, I can now officially bitch slap you because I'm now a 22 in RBTB. :D

Everyone in our group was leveling up like crazy, except for Whiteboy. :( I just wish this type of leveling up we did in RBTB would be the same in all the TS games we won today in which I never budged from a 44. :(

God, I need to do less complaining and more gaming. :(

I have finals next week so the closest thing to Halo I've been doing can be seen on the last few pages in the form of unnecessarily long rants about everything there is to rant about. But come next week, I'mma come back with a vengeance and BTB the shit outta all you :P

Understand that it is not people hating on Halo, its just pointing that the graphics are disappointing. This fact however is understandable because of the myriad of features that Halo 3 offers that puts it as the crowning achievement of gaming in general. Yes, I repeat there is no fucking game better than Halo 3. At the same time, I am not blind and CoD 4, The Orange Box (not so much on the 360), Gears of Wars, and many other games look much better than Halo 3 from a technical point of view. Thats all. How is that "hate"?
I know that after my post many trolls got into the bandwagon just to shit on the game, but does it really matter? The whole system wars bullshit that goes on in this forum confuses people, and makes it seem that a simple critic like mine its a trolling attempt, but you couldn't be more wrong. Also, if I criticize Halo 3 is because I limit myself to comment on games that I really play or plan on playing. If a game isn't interesting to me why would I even comment on it? Lost of people do it, I think its wrong.

Recently we haven't been able to find a game in RBTB with a party of 5 or more. We're not that highly ranked, ranks from 1 to 18. OMG fix it Bungie, Big Team Social is horrible :(

I think the point is that the thread is for good games with BAD graphics. Halo 3 does not have bad graphics. You can argue that they were disappointing and many would agree, but to call them bad is a big exaggeration! The draw distance, lighting, texture work, atmosphere and everything down to the tiny little spores floating around in the Cortana level are among the reasons why this cannot be called a good game with BAD graphics. There are better looking games for sure but even by comparison you're hard pushed to call Halo 3 BAD looking. "But teh jaggieeez....." is that all you got trolls? (not calling you a troll godhandiscen, i actually respect your opinion)

/rant

i think the graphics in halo are pretty good but there are a few things which annoy me about them. For example, I love the grass but i dislike how its effected by the LOD circle and in about 10 meters in front of me i can just see the bare ground with none of that lovely lovely grass. grass.

i also dislike how at the top of jump if you look down your shadow disappears because of lod, it did the exact same in halo 2 and its a shame they didnt improve on it.

Like i said, the graphics are pretty good. There are things it does well and things (like LOD) it could do better. I'm sure it could have been the best looking game on console if thats what they'd set out to do. But i doubt we'd have all the features we have now if thats the way they'd taken things, and I for one am glad they made the choices they made. Halo 3 would not be what it is without the likes of Forge and Saved Films. And its still a good looking game :D

After my last two posts anyone would think I work for Bungie lol

I wish i did

Anyone who has played on Standoff and still thinks Halo 3 has bad graphics needs their eyes checked. If you can't look past a few jaggies to see the beauty of the game, I feel sorry for you.

also i just want to say that while i enjoy the sp, i think its about 3-4 levels too short and it still lacks a epic ending.

i enjoy it alot tho ;D
