Btw, I hate Live, it kicks me off at random times.. oh well.
Bungie hired two dozen content hamsters to get stuff in. The woodchip expenses were enormous, but it was worth it in the end.kbear said:Another thing I tried out was the save film feature... the theater. Is this the most feature-packed game ever or what? How the hell did they pack so much stuff into this? I saved two videos of 'Floodgate' and 'The Ark' and uploaded them. Great feature.
Yeah, those are Chieftains. The Ark is a great showcase for everything that's good in Halo. The vehiclular combat, large set-pieces, indoors, sniping. It's got the works.kbear said:Wow, just finished "The Ark". What an amazing experience. I'm totally blown away. Right from the beginning when I landed on that huge desert / sand landscape, I knew this was gonna be an epic level. The scale was absolutely enormous. There was so much variety to this level in terms of gameplay... from on-foot, to on a mongoose, to the tank, to a warthog with the laser on back. Speaking of the warthog section... when the Scarab showed up and walked past me when I opened the door, that was just unbelievable. The detail and production values that went into this game are astounding. This was one of the best and most epic levels I've ever played in any game, to be honest. I liked the ending as well. I jumped down to this big circular platform where the evac is and fight a hammer brute (are they called chieftan?) while the other brutes watch and cheer on.

Also, Kbear, it is cool to hear impressions, as others have said.....I wonder what you'll think come after this level.....

The story's really starting to pick up with more info about The Ark, the Flood / Gravemind ship about to invade Earth, Prophet Truth trying to set off the rings... there's multiple story arcs going on at once which makes it feel really epic.
Also I played a few seconds of the next level before I turned it off... I can already tell this one's gonna be a monster as well. The new laser gun is pretty sweet.

It's a cheap thing to say, but I think if you could somehow flick a switch and give the game 2x or 4x AA it definitely would be top five for the generation so far. But I haven't seen a game that does lighting as beautifully, and of course the scale of it is impressive throughout (even more so when you see just how huge these levels are when you break out of them for panoramic distance shots, Vociferous-style). I've also seen vastly varying results on different TVs (my friend's does some sort of AA/filtering of its own, and the game looks ay-may-zingly crisp and smooth).kbear said:Is it the best looking game out there or even in the top 5? Probably not but does it still look awesome at times? Hell yea. And to be honest, the lighting is some of the best I've seen this gen. The beginning of this Flood level looked beautiful with the sun setting (forgot to take a pic of that). Halo 2 HD my ass!

Any news on the Double EXP weekend? I'm not working tomorrow so I hope it's something new.

I can still remember those days, but at the ripe age of 31, it's getting harder. I've had knee surgery, have back problems and my hair has suddenly decided to turn grey. Woo!
But there's a silver lining. All I need is a cane and in a few years I can start my crabby old man routine a full decade early. I've been looking forward to this.
