Noob question. Why are there so many people with a very high rank and little experience. What I mean, is why do people get a second account or lose games on purpose? any benefit to this that ? I haven't noticed?

wow, it's like the entire 1100 pages of this Halo thread are basically summed up in Shake Appeal's posts from the past two pages.

bravo, sir... be sure to take a close look at veto stats for Two Boxes, to make sure you are bowing to the will of the community.

I cried reading that.

The good kind of crying.

Also: I am going to be on Team Spartan Lasers

Just to be cool.

I even flirted with making another account and becoming a Staff Captain myself... but that would take forever to get. I swear people have too much time on their hands. Also, it looks hot. Nothing like hearing the reaction of people after you dong on them in matchmaking. :D

I dunno about that, most of the community stuff I've played IS garbage. Even the better remakes suck due to spawns or something equally frustrating. Onslaught is really the only Forge map I've played that I would even consider passable as a "real" map.

I was thinking more along the lines of the "Team ActionSack" playlist from Halo 2. A less serious, unranked playlist with lots of variety.

LukeSmith said:
I've talked ad infinitum here about a playlist including all Community variants, from the technical challenges to UI messaging and confusion that would result from playing custom gametypes whose game-to-game goals can't be messaged to the player in a single, short text string in the UI, to the fact that a hopper was built tested and scrapped.

I understand the challenge in explaining some of these gametypes - especially since a lot of them involve honor rules which obviously not every player would obey. But why not try doing standard gametypes on Forged maps then? It's already been done before in Infection (which seemed to be hugely popular BTW) so clearly it's possible. Just something that would give it more variety...

We've promoted Community Maps in the Humpday, made them available in Bungie Favorites and empowered Community Groups to directly promote their own gametypes, maps and films in Bungie Favorites.

I appreciate that you do that, but I think it's safe to say that's nowhere near the exposure they'd get from being in a matchmaking playlist. It requires the user to read those articles/check Bungie favorites, download it, and then arrange a custom game.

Yeah, I agree ActionSack was fun for just screwin around and having fun. Instead of having these specific type of double EXP weekend playlists why don't you guys mix them around? Have SWAT, GriffBall, and Infection mixed into one big party playlist.

It's kinda up to the community though isn't it? I can't imagine that Bungie has the time, manpower, or inclination to sift through the thousands of map variants and gametypes and find the few golden flakes that have settled in the silt. Even if they did, I think I would rather have them focus on new content for Halo 3 and future projects yet to be announced.

When Bungie announced Forge and Saved Films I didn't think to myself, "Awesome, I wonder what Bungie is going to do with that stuff." I thought, "Holy shit, the community is going to come up with some awesome shit." Almost instantly, we got Grifball. Almost as quickly, a full set of MLG map variants, custom gameplay, and even brand new maps. Even ONE OF US, Lintendo64 got his map variant noticed by Bungie. As a result, it has seen a ton of play.

And really, when we tried to organize a group here to test some user generated content for quality, there were literally no takers. It was like four of us just stumbling around some maps. We can't even evaluate our own community content among a few dozen regulars.

Problem is, I got burned out on Forge real quick. I made a couple cool maps, but then other people were making maps that I would've made in better quality than I could make them so I kinda lost my creative motivation. Instead I just pop by Forgehub and download what looks cool.

I have all kinds of maps swirling in my head, but I get pissed off with the forge controls and quit 5 minutes in. :lol
Maybe I could help :)

But then again I also get pretty frustrated with the controls and quit, soon there after. :lol

I've actually always had my mind slip when I was showing off pics.....note to self, send next ones to Domino.

So, is it not possible for Bungie to add snap-to functions to the Forge? That alone would increase the quality of user-created stuff 100 fold.

This and automatic 90 degree rotations would be _immensely_ helpful.

Me too. I'd like to say that my problem was with the delicate positioning and surgical placement of objects, but even the largest of crates vex my thumbs. I bet Lintendo64 dominates at Operation and Jenga.

I dunno about a snap-to function but the most logical to me, would to make a 'merge' option where you can interweave the objects and place them next to eachother all the while allowing them to be stacked.

Forge definitely needs a snap-to and/or a "Snap to angle" function.

Also needs to remove specific item quota limit.

Actually there are tons of things I'd want on a new "Foundry" map.

Forget new map additions - the bolded need to be universal options.

Yeah, I've had a lot of trouble trying to be creative in Forge as well.

Now I only Forge when trying to re-balance maps.

Umm... that would imply that the maps aren't already balanced.

*gasp*

Actually, I basically just move weapons around and stuff like that. Add Prowlers to all the maps, you know.

My bond with the flight is strong enough to face the even the wrath of Luke.

And I'm sure there's a couple tweaks he'd like to see happen ;)

I spend time addng as many rockets, missile pods, brute shots and fusion cores as the budget allows. Because explosions make everything better.

don't forget the 24 other unused plasma grenades

Quick story time before going to bed.

I had one of those WTF moments in an AJ game just a bit ago. I thought I stuck someone with a spike grenade, got killed, and then scored a double-kill off it. Unusual to get a double from a spike, so I went back to take a look - and it was even more WTF than I thought.

This is me, about to get owned - I didn't see this fellow's backup before I engaged.

owned1.jpg

At the last second, I toss a grenade.

owned2.jpg

As I go down, cocopjojo comes up from behind to engage. You can see my grenade was a clean miss, sailing off to the right.

owned3.jpg

The grenade stuck in the stair, parallel to the ground. cocop leaps past the Blue guys, gets a few shots in each and then and circles around.

owned4.jpg

My grenade finally blows, sending out enough spikes to ignite the the fusion coils behind the Blue guys and toasting both of them.

owned5.jpg

cocop softened'em up, my belated grenade stole the kills. Both of'em.

It took so long to happen I was actually respawing when the double-kill was announced. :lol

OK, is this just something MLG players do? What's up with swirling your reticle around for no apparent reason?

I'm watching a couple of fileshare videos to see what areas of my game to improve and I was watching an MLG TS video and every time the guy respawned, he was swirling his reticle around. He even did it a few times while in-play. In the MLG video I posted (4 BR headshots vs. 5 BR headshots), the guy did the very same thing.

Since this odd movement occurred in both videos, I just have to wonder....huh? Am I missing something? Or are they just readjusting their thumbs?

The ogres did it just to loosen their thumbs up or something and everyone basically copied it.

It actually had to do with the way the map loaded on respawn in Halo: CE. The Ogres did the swirl to "load the map" faster -- and then the copycatting prevailed.

Yeah, I knew it was something like that. They just do it now out of force of habit. But basically they were the first and it's called "Ogre Circles". Basically everyone does it just because they do.

Isn't that what the user ratings are for? I'm sure Bungie can very easily see the most popular maps - both by highest rating and number of downloads. It's not like it would take the manpower of the entire studio to do this either, one dude could do it in his spare time.

In an ideal world, user ratings would work perfectly and flawlessly, and as such, Bungie could pick and choose like little kids in a candy store.

Unfortunately, even if the map is 5 stars, that doesn't mean it's necessarily balanced in the slightest bit. It takes at least 4 people to test per map, probably much more depending on the level of quality bungie usually shows
(high ground team slayer excluded)
with maps. It's a lot of manpower and time.

Edit:

wow lots of reconners on GAF now, who has it?
Ram
Voltron
You
Domino
Cocop
Voc
Ghaleon
Nj Falkor
Shake Appeal
Urk (I think)

If I haven't listed anyone....it's because you're not important.*

*This does not include Luke, Frankie, or Shiska, as potentially flaming heads trump plain old recon. Oh, and it's more like I haven't played with you to know.
