I loved reading your impressions of Halo 3 as you went through it. Trasher said:Just wanted to point out the teleporter on the middle monitor. Unlike Derelict, these teleporters aren't centered with the walkways according to this picture. Now that I have noticed that that is a teleporter I am almost completely sure this is a Derelict remake.
Ah yes. K bear. GM Bullfrog. Wrong dude with the animal prefixed by a letter or two. My bad. :lolGM Bullfrog said:I think you might be thinking of kbear.I got Halo 2 when I got my XBOX 360 in February of last year. It was probably my most played game until Halo 3 came out.
Awesome. Make sure you play it on coop at least once.GM Bullfrog said:So I finally picked up Halo: CE. Pretty cool so far. I have played through the first level. I'll probably play the next level tomorrow.![]()
Ew!the disgruntled gamer said:I don't think Purple Reign will be a remake, though I think it will definitely have things in common with Derelict.
BTW, it's worth pointing out that Derelict and Desolation were extremely underrated maps.
Because the Halo 2 remake was complete garbage and was a completely different map than the original Derelict. You wouldn't know because you never played the great map that was Derelict to know anything about it.Ramirez said:PR is a new map you goof, and even if it was a remake it wouldn't be Derelict, they remade it at the tail end of Halo 2, why would they do it AGAIN?![]()
I totally agree. I'd much rather have a remake of Damnation over Derelict. Was just pointing out the similarities between Derelict and Purple Reign: the bowl shape and the 4 walkways with the warps.Striker said:Derelict was ok, but Damnation is world's better.
If they kept teleports instead of the lifts, its still a prettier looking version of Derelict. Who wants that? Give us new maps or better maps that can be re-makes.
numbers said:Desolation felt too big. Or, at least bigger than I remember derelict being..
I loved it, but they remade it for Halo 2 as well. There are fans of (nearly) every map, so unless Bungie remakes all of them, someone is going to feel snubbed. Of course, a lot of us just want original maps. With the nine DLC maps known so far, there have been three remakes (with Sidewinder getting a dramatic overhaul). I like that ratio of one remake for every two originals. It will keep everyone happy.joey_z said:Why has battle creek not made it yet into Halo 3? This is preposterous. It is single handedly the most enjoyable mini map in the Halo series thus far.
Personally I believe that we don't need a Battle Creek map with the maps that are already available to us. Right now we need some more basic slayer maps. I would eventually like to see a Battle Creek though.joey_z said:Why has battle creek not made it yet into Halo 3? This is preposterous. Before posting, I marinated those words in sarcasm, but the flavor didn't take. :lolLukeSmith said:The impossible, you ask it of us.
:lol It was fun, though; good games. I really need to take some time and learn how to juggle the flag -- or anything for that matter -- correctly. I can throw the flag, but I can't seem to be able to pick it back up after it hits the ground and it just stays there resulting in an epic fail.Cap7ain Blood said:Yup that was a 30min CTF game we played lol
I thought I'd get a resounding "Fuck yeah" when I asked my team if they wanted to call it quits but sure enough Trasher wanted to play that one outCap7ain Blood said:Yup that was a 30min CTF game we played lol

I remember some epic Oddball games on that map, I recall some sort of 'kill room' with a ladder. Just as I get interested in another game, Bungie shows a new map. I'm hoping for a July 7th release. Realistic?

Shafto said:Maybe i'm being far too optimistic, but with Bungie day fast approaching, and the unusual reveal of this map, I think a 7/7 release is quite likely. I'm really clutching at straws when I think it'll be free, but I still think there's a good chance.

Has Luke mentioned if the podcast has been cancelled or something?
Cocopjojo said:Yeah, I don't know about a 7/7 release date for the new maps. They have to give folks time to g3t hyp3d. Doing otherwise isn't smart marketing. And folks are still high off of the Legendary Map Pack (I know I am), so I don't know if they need another release this soon.
That's not to say that it won't be awesome if they do release them on 7/7.
A 7/7 release for the next Bungie map pack would be astronomically epic.urk said:This would be a very Bungie thing to do, but I think we have to keep in mind that they aren't setting the price structure for Halo 3 DLC, Microsoft is.
Or they'll just slap it into a map pack and price it at 800 points.
He later admits to having no say in the design process, but it's an interesting thought none the less. A Halo 2 Map Pack with half a dozen Halo 2 maps ported identically to Halo 2 with, perhaps, some minor changes to accomodate the art and visuals of the level. I'd definitely plunk down money for it, probably $20 and this might give them an opportunity to put out another disc like they did for Halo 3. But I guess ultimately I'm ultimately curious if this new map pack will signal the steady/abrupt decrease in Halo 3 content as we wait to play Bungie's next project.I am guessing that as far as "straight ports" are concerned, it's generally an issue of two things - one, Halo gameplay has evolved and changed slightly over the years and "perfect ports" don't always play the way they used to within the context of Halo 3. Secondly, I have to imagine our artists are not keen to settle for simply a cut/paste job. They are a lot more ambitious and hardcore than that.
It does raise the question though.. how would people feel if some "quick ports" were done at some point in time? Would it be better to have something that perhaps had less visual upgrades and pizazz but was a perfect copy of an original? For hypothetical argument's sake, assume that such a map would be priced differently - As a player I'd expect something like that to probably cost less than a full blown fancy glorious new map.
So it really comes down to what would people want more? some quick and dirty "ports" that were 99% accurate to the originals and perhaps available in more volume or fewer, better looking re-designed maps?... Or just completely original maps altogether and no more throw-backs to the old days.

I would prefer map ports that are 99% true to original with update graphics than a straight copy that might not fit with the gameplay of Halo 3.Mr Vociferous said:He later admits to having no say in the design process, but it's an interesting thought none the less.
