So I finally picked up Halo: CE. Pretty cool so far. I have played through the first level. I'll probably play the next level tomorrow. :D
I loved reading your impressions of Halo 3 as you went through it. Please do keep us posted, I'm really interested to see your thoughts on the first two games, especially after playing Halo 3 as the first in the trilogy.

I think you might be thinking of kbear. :D I got Halo 2 when I got my XBOX 360 in February of last year. It was probably my most played game until Halo 3 came out.

I liked the intro. Some of the small tunnel sections were eh, but overall I liked it. It's kinda cool have 60 rounds per clip of AR as well :D .

Just wanted to point out the teleporter on the middle monitor. Unlike Derelict, these teleporters aren't centered with the walkways according to this picture. Now that I have noticed that that is a teleporter I am almost completely sure this is a Derelict remake.

PR is a new map you goof, and even if it was a remake it wouldn't be Derelict, they remade it at the tail end of Halo 2, why would they do it AGAIN? :P

Ah yes. K bear. GM Bullfrog. Wrong dude with the animal prefixed by a letter or two. My bad. :lol

Just got finished playing a couple of Halo 2 matches for the first time since I got Halo 3, and I am left wondering how I could possibly stand playing that game for the past two years. Halo 2 is just so... bad compared to Halo 3.

the disgruntled gamer said:
I don't think Purple Reign will be a remake, though I think it will definitely have things in common with Derelict.

BTW, it's worth pointing out that Derelict and Desolation were extremely underrated maps.
Ew!

We need more maps like Beaver Creek, Sanctuary, and Terminal. Not Desolation!

Because the Halo 2 remake was complete garbage and was a completely different map than the original Derelict. You wouldn't know because you never played the great map that was Derelict to know anything about it. :P

Also, I missed the point about it being a new map. I read the word "original" and instinctively thought it meant the original Halo. :)

Derelict was ok, but Damnation is world's better.

If they kept teleports instead of the lifts, its still a prettier looking version of Derelict. Who wants that? Give us new maps or better maps that can be re-makes.

I totally agree. I'd much rather have a remake of Damnation over Derelict. Was just pointing out the similarities between Derelict and Purple Reign: the bowl shape and the 4 walkways with the warps.

On another note, Desolation was a disgrace to its older brother Derelict.

Desolation felt too big. Or, at least bigger than I remember derelict being..

It felt too big because on Halo1 your pistol could whoop someones ass across the map on LA N while for Halo2 on XBL the BR bullets would just bounce off of everyones shields and not even register.

Chill out seemed like an interesting pick. I would have preferred to see a Damnation remake where the setting would be a Power Plant.

Why has battle creek not made it yet into Halo 3? This is preposterous. It is single handedly the most enjoyable mini map in the Halo series thus far.

I loved it, but they remade it for Halo 2 as well. There are fans of (nearly) every map, so unless Bungie remakes all of them, someone is going to feel snubbed. Of course, a lot of us just want original maps. With the nine DLC maps known so far, there have been three remakes (with Sidewinder getting a dramatic overhaul). I like that ratio of one remake for every two originals. It will keep everyone happy.

Or not. :lol

Personally I believe that we don't need a Battle Creek map with the maps that are already available to us. Right now we need some more basic slayer maps. I would eventually like to see a Battle Creek though.

Before posting, I marinated those words in sarcasm, but the flavor didn't take. :lol

I think the best you can hope for it keeping everyone slightly hostile. It's like a good comprimise, if everyone's mad, it must be a good one.

Had some rolicking good times in

Big Team Battle tonight. Good connections, decent team mates. My love for Rat's Nest grows by the day.

Battle Creek, Sanctuary, or original maps. There's nothing in Halo 3 that resemble these two maps and they reek of bad assery.

Remake Chiron with more transporters and smaller rooms for people to camp in. Add a shotgun to each room.

Then make it the standard map for all playlist, remove all other maps obviously.

The community will praise Bungie for the genius that was Chiron remade.

Did Matchmaking just break for anyone else? When I try to go into searching for a game, it just does a countdown as if the game is starting - then stops and sits there.

Yup that was a 30min CTF game we played lol
:lol It was fun, though; good games. I really need to take some time and learn how to juggle the flag -- or anything for that matter -- correctly. I can throw the flag, but I can't seem to be able to pick it back up after it hits the ground and it just stays there resulting in an epic fail.

I thought I'd get a resounding "Fuck yeah" when I asked my team if they wanted to call it quits but sure enough Trasher wanted to play that one out :P

After the game my internet went to shit and when I finally got it back up everyone was gone :(

Chillout eh...

I remember some epic Oddball games on that map, I recall some sort of 'kill room' with a ladder. Just as I get interested in another game, Bungie shows a new map. I'm hoping for a July 7th release. Realistic?

I don't think it will be that soon. It would be awesome, but I don't think so.

It will most likely be released around E3.

I want a Drawing of the Three book report on my desk from you be the end of the week ;P...........Then we will work on flag throwing:lol

Maybe i'm being far too optimistic, but with Bungie day fast approaching, and the unusual reveal of this map, I think a 7/7 release is quite likely. I'm really clutching at straws when I think it'll be free, but I still think there's a good chance.

What better to get everyone interested in Halo 3 again, during the slow summer months, and a user-base that is turning pretty hardcore, than a free map to bring back the more casual players and reward us fanboys for our loyalty. I think a lot of people (i.e. my friends) have been put off since the release of the Legendary map pack - it's 'might never be free' tag line is the break point where people decide to commit to the game, or worry that the user-base will splinter and leave it all together. A freebie might bring some of them back, and make them think that they might spend a little on some maps to thank Bungie for the freebie.

This is all based on personal experience of course, for all I know Halo numbers are up and Legendary is the the biggest selling thing since Hovis announced Sliced Bread.

Chill Out/Cold Storage looked like it was finished in the videos and screens released over the weekend, and Moonbase Alpha and Purple Reign were both announced in a BWU last October. A Bungie day release date is more than likely imo

This would be a very Bungie thing to do, but I think we have to keep in mind that they aren't setting the price structure for Halo 3 DLC, Microsoft is. That said, there have been map sponsors before, so I wouldn't rule out something like that either. You've got a grunty thirst. Quench it with Ice Blue Cold Storage Mountain Dew!

Or they'll just slap it into a map pack and price it at 800 points.

I was just about to say that Cold Storage looks ready to be put out. Is it normal for the maps to be ready in advance?

In one of the previous BWUs they made it seem like they would be done very soon, but that they wouldn't be out as soon. I would check out Bnet, but I can't get there from work.

edit ... this is post 117 for me :D

Sure. There's internal testing that has to be done and certification that has to be obtained by Microsoft before they're ready for public consumption. I'd assume the build showcased in San Diego was close to finished, if not the final code.

Think I asked this a few weeks ago but I dont check this thread much....

Has Luke mentioned if the podcast has been cancelled or something?

yeah ... some soccer players jacked up the equipment in the room they record the podcasts in. no word on when they will make another appearance.

he mentioned that a lot of their equipment is in disarray currently, and with Frank leaving it's just been a huge clusterfuck and they haven't been able to get everything in order.

It sucks, I know, I miss it too, but you know what they say: absence makes the heart grow stronger.

edit: totally beat

Yeah, I don't know about a 7/7 release date for the new maps. They have to give folks time to g3t hyp3d. Doing otherwise isn't smart marketing. And folks are still high off of the Legendary Map Pack (I know I am), so I don't know if they need another release this soon.

That's not to say that it won't be awesome if they do release them on 7/7.

A 7/7 release for the next Bungie map pack would be astronomically epic.:D

I'm looking forward to the full-scale reveal sometime this week on B.net. Hopefully it'll be accopanied by some awesome screens and developer commentary. It's a bit strange though. Even before the Legendary Map Pack was announced, we had heard about Purple Reign (which was supposed to be in the pack) and Moonbase. That gave us the inkling that we were going to get some maps beyond the next batch. Thus far, the current three maps are all that we know about.

Could this be the last map pack?

I don't know what Bungie's next project is going to be or where they are with it, but with the inclusion of this next map pack, that puts us at 21. Halo 2 stopped at 21 before releasing Tombstone and Desolation just before the Halo 3 beta. Maybe that's where we're headed? Who knows. I'd love to see more maps, but I think the DLC so far has been pretty awesome and has rounded a decent series of maps to play on for the game.

If Bungie doesn't have time to invest in completely new maps, would it be unreasonable to suggest the quick and dirty ports that Sketch mentions in this post:

I am guessing that as far as "straight ports" are concerned, it's generally an issue of two things - one, Halo gameplay has evolved and changed slightly over the years and "perfect ports" don't always play the way they used to within the context of Halo 3. Secondly, I have to imagine our artists are not keen to settle for simply a cut/paste job. They are a lot more ambitious and hardcore than that.

It does raise the question though.. how would people feel if some "quick ports" were done at some point in time? Would it be better to have something that perhaps had less visual upgrades and pizazz but was a perfect copy of an original? For hypothetical argument's sake, assume that such a map would be priced differently - As a player I'd expect something like that to probably cost less than a full blown fancy glorious new map.

So it really comes down to what would people want more? some quick and dirty "ports" that were 99% accurate to the originals and perhaps available in more volume or fewer, better looking re-designed maps?... Or just completely original maps altogether and no more throw-backs to the old days.
He later admits to having no say in the design process, but it's an interesting thought none the less. A Halo 2 Map Pack with half a dozen Halo 2 maps ported identically to Halo 2 with, perhaps, some minor changes to accomodate the art and visuals of the level. I'd definitely plunk down money for it, probably $20 and this might give them an opportunity to put out another disc like they did for Halo 3. But I guess ultimately I'm ultimately curious if this new map pack will signal the steady/abrupt decrease in Halo 3 content as we wait to play Bungie's next project.

I would pay $30+ for this.

I would prefer map ports that are 99% true to original with update graphics than a straight copy that might not fit with the gameplay of Halo 3.

I really don't want this to be the last map pack. There should be new maps for Halo 3 all the way till Halo 4.

It's really too bad that we don't have the option to create our own hoppers. It could be like a server list but with unlimited user slots. For example the Forge HUB guys could make a hopper full of their exploits. Or someone could've collected all the Halo 2 forged remakes and created a hopper for that. People could browse the "Custom Hopper" playlist to see all the different matchmaking options, each option would display how many users are in matchmaking for each hopper. It would be great.

I would've created a Super Halo Bros hopper for people to play the different levels I've made.

Hay guys, lemme get this straight. I'm away for a while and all of the sudden there are new screenshots of one of three new maps and it's a Chill Out remake??

Bungie is blocked here at work or else I'd just go and see for myself.

Bungie revealed it at MLG San Diego. There are no official shots yet, only cell phone pics and video. There should be some better quality stuff from Bungie this week.
