the fuck?

Although I'm confident the Legendary Maps will eventually be free, they're well worth the 600-800 point they're going for so I don't know why any Halo 3 multiplayer fan would balk about getting them.

Hmm, I think the maps might become free, like 3 months after the next pack comes out.

200 point price drop on the Mythical Map pack, and free Legendary. (or at least i think this is going to happen)

I really doubt that Bungie will be announcing anything about a new game at E3 unless the game is an arcade title or somehting of that sort. I'm not sure how the development of Halo 3 ended, but for them to be far enough into the development process of a new game to show it now, they would have had to of had a team working on it for at least a year.

I guess it's possible as Bungie is a large, well financed studio, but I really can't see it. At the most I'm guessing the could show a teaser trailer for something, but that would be it. Of course I've been terribly wrong about stuff like this before, and I would be pleasantly surprised if they did have something to show us all at E3.

Agreed about the development time. I think it is probably an Arcade title. And I would think that an Arcade title would get overshadowed if announced at E3 - and Bungie has been hyping PAX in the BWUs over the past few weeks...

There comes a point where it's not going to make any sense to have the maps not be free. They won't be selling, and they'll just be holding back the Halo 3 multiplayer experience by not being required in all playlists... I highly doubt that the Legendary maps will never be free.

Even then, we have the folks without HDDs... : (

MS and their SKUs.

I hope they "announce" something at E3 that is not an arcade game. Pax is fine for an arcade game though.

*Something like a teaser for a huge project would be awesome!

I think you're missing a "not" in your first sentence, but I see what you're saying.

The only way we can have a large number of map possibilities in most of the playlists is to require all of the DLC - and the only reasonable way to require all of the DLC is to make it free.

Cocopjojo said:
Yes. Avalanche is easily one of the most fun Halo maps ever.
Too bad it's so hard to get a decent Avalanche game. There's only about 1,300 people in the DLC Objective hopper at any given time. Is it in any other hopper?

I don't know why they would hint about showing something at E3 in the podcast, and then not show anything. And in a Weekly Update not too long ago (right before the Superintendent stuff started) said Bungie had multiple projects in the works, and that we'd see one of them "soon". If they do show anything, it will definitely be a smaller project. I just hope they don't rush anything out the door.

Of course, it could just be Moonbase Alpha and Purple Reign being on the show floor as part of the next map pack. Bungie went to E3 2004 to show their new maps as well.

I am hoping for this, too. I think it is unlikely because it's been such a short time since H3 launched and the team was free, but I suppose it is a possibility. An awesome possibility.
Halo 4: Dark Planetoid Rising ftw

For some reason I think that the latter of your statements is the one that is going to happen. I would love to be surprised with something "bigger", but I'd also be up for some new maps. I just got back into playing Halo 3 after getting into COD 4 and GTA 4, but I think the core gameplay of Halo is the purest gameplay of any console FPS.

Honestly, at this point I would be happy if they made a Halo game that was its own platform, and just released new maps and patches to tweak the gameplay. Think of what Rock Band is trying to do and picture it in a FPS. I know it's been tried before to no avail, but if any game could pull it off, it would be a Bungie game.

...that's the world I one day want to live in.

I hope we get a teaser trailer of the SI project at E3, then get a ton of info about it at PAX.

Whatever happens, I just don't want a Halo 4 trailer. Holy shit it is way too soon. I might be in the minority here, but I sure as hell would not pump my fist if there was a Halo 4 trailer, I would throw up my hands angrily.

I don't think there are people out there who regularly play Halo 3 online and don't have HDDs. It doesn't seem possible.

Thanks ;)

EDIT: Holy shit, almost 900,000 players in the past 24 hours, that's goood.

I think MS wants to space their Halo projects out. Halo Wars is this year, and they're staffing up Chronicles for whenever that's slated. If there's a Halo 3, I'm sure it's at least two years out. And I can't imagine who would make it.

Braaains on Rigor Mortis. My friend and I are in a certain spot where the zombies can't get us.:lol :lol

While we were up here and everyone else was trying to get us, I was playing "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" through my mic and broadcasting it so everyone could hear it, just so I could mock them.

:lol :lol It was awesome.

It's in DLC slayer
Team Duals!!!

I'm really hoping that MS gets their act together and makes the Legendary pack free. The only people hurt by it not being free are those who shelled out ~$10 to get them in the first place. If the next pack of maps come out and I'm still limited to playing the Legendary maps in social DLC playlists I'll be pretty disappointed.

This.

It seems like I've only got to play on Avalanche once or twice in the last month, which is a shame as it is easily my favorite map in the game. Anything that can be done to get this map bumped up in the playlists is a good thing.

I have to say, aside from wall glitches, Infection on Cold Storage has by far hosted the best Infection games that I've played. The lighting, the design of the map, everything about it is pretty perfect for Infection in my opinion. Loving it right now. Aside from the wall glitches that is. Even got my first Hell's Janitor medal a minute ago. Just got promoted to Colonel Grade 2. Not sure that I'm proud of that:lol

There'll be an insta-kill barrier up there by next month, I'm sure.

I'm wondering when MS will release a map-pack disc to sell the maps to those who don't go online. Kindof like the disc they did for Halo2/original xbox. Either that or I expect them to come out with a "game-of-the-year" edition with the dlc bundled in with the game.

Doubt I would get it though.

weeeeee!

best map for multi flag ctf ever.

btw is it common to try and kill the flag carrier on the last cap for the glory or something? the second i booted out of the warthog, both the guys in it tried to (and succeeded in) killing me for it. seems kind of like a dick thing to do. i was going for my 3rd cap too. i was kind of disappointed.

Welcome to 2004, my friend. People have been doing that since Halo 2.

I would love to see a weekend playlist devoted to just one map, kinda like we just had with Icy Treat. It could be a different map every weekend.... Or one map a day for a week; Blackout Monday, Standoff Tuesday, Avalanche Wednesday... etc. A girl can dream.

Dax01 said:
Eazy, be serious, do you actually want to play with me? :(
This is not the place to talk about these sorts of things.

The place to schedule meetings and tourneys for all online-enabled games is here.
Ghaleon was even nice enough to set up a Halo 3 thread.

That's not a bad idea. I'd love to see a weekend devoted to 8v8 Avalanche with weighting in multiflag and heavy varients.

No, it's not a bad idea at all.

I'm still curious why we haven't gotten any matchmaking involved with the Forge system. Even though it's a sandbox, I could see a lot of competitive variety in there for a weekend hopper. I imagine there's some sort of networking or software limitation, which is a shame, because the few times I've played competitively in Forge have been fun. It's like Slayer, but real-time resource management on a violent scale...

Where was it found? Do we know it's directly linked to Bungie, or some fan-made thing to make us think it's made by Bungie?

EDIT: It looks like it is the final menu from ilovebees, the Halo 2 ARG, with a countdown added to the bottom. The actual ilovebees site does not have that countdown. Also, TeamXbox reports that ilovebees just resurfaced. It never went down. It's been like that since it's conclusion right before Halo 2 released for the Xbox in 2004.

That sounds like a cool idea that I have not tried.

If I remember correctly, Forge Matchmaking WAS originally planned for Halo 3 but pulled during development. I think.

I have no idea. I just think I remember reading about it in a magazine at some point.

Oh yeah, and one more thing. Please Bungie, put Flame Grenades on one map. ONE MAP. One DLC map or something. I've always liked them, and I've dreamed of CTF games where someone holds a team off from coming through an entrance by throwing a flame grenade in the door way. Even if it's only for like 2 seconds, it's cool. And I WANT IT BUNGLE!!!11!

Blueblur1 said:

Yeah. "Xbox Live Public" is what they called it IIRC.

The lone game of Heavies on Avalanche I played kicked all kinds of ass and it would rock if it were added to the DLC playlist. Nice use of Forge to add structures and cover to the map.

Many things exploded. That makes me happy.

You are recalling it from this article: http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3155452

So strange to see Luke the one to write the article.

Surely this countdown isn't to Halo 2, it's leading to something.

Oh and holy shit, weirdest review ever: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/236997.html Watch the whole thing.

It's the text ripped off the ilovebees site, with an added countdown. All I'm saying is, is there anything that proves that Bungie made that countdown? Like was it discovered through something on Bungie.net, or did it just suddenly pop up and start spreading as if someone made it because they know Bungie has an announcement coming, and they wanted to be cryptic like Bungie, and started spreading it like Bungie actually made it.

Its great on Avalanche, but on Standoff and Valhalla, there are issues. Four laser spawns on the map(s), with a 5 runtime maximum, it made it so that vehicles were less and less useful. I could see 2, going up to 3, but not more than that.

Alright, I'm a huge Cortana fan. The most recent voice acting thread prompted me to (once again) go look for more of Jen's stuff, when I came across this utterly fantastic little documentary.

The Real Cortana Part 1
The Real Cortana Part 2

Where is this from? How did I miss it? It's great, and just a little embarrassing (I'm looking at you, Eric Nylund).

Edit: Boll. Boll? Boll!
Beads?

It's registered to Fox FM in North Carolina.
