I've barely done stuff with CE, I have made basic maps but I haven't messed with model injection yet, I have looked at tutorials though on how to do it.

Halo: Chronicles has "now been taken over, and is being done internally by Microsoft" :o (from the lost podcast)

Halo: Chronicles is either using the Unreal or CryEngine 2 then :o (that's what Microsoft was hiring for)

Ooh, awesome, podcasts. DLing now. Please have Marty talking about politics... please please please...

Really? What makes you say that it seems likely? (I haven't seen any evidence at all that even HINTS at it. I'm not saying it can't happen - just wondering about what you know that I don't.)
It hasn't been hinted at, it's just a suspicion based on the fact that there's just no point in having two map packs that are both being charged for, it seriously limits your options as far as matchmaking goes, and it just doesn't seem like a smart business decision.

And of course, the price drop was a move in the right direction.

Woah after this statement, Joe says Recon is going to come out this winter. They said that earlier in the podcast too... :S Delayaton.

That silenced SMG would be pretty sweet on some Halo 1 marines, wouldn't you agree?

If only H1 had ODSTs.

Model it and add bones and such, the only problem is that I'm a weapon modeler and will not even touch people modeling.

Well dang, I'm as dumb as a bag of sand when it comes to biped modeling :lol

CrazedArabMan said:
I believe there is more to it but like I said, people modeling isn't my thing.
Yea, custom animations, markers, etc.

If only I had money, then I could outsource this stuff to Asia or something.

Maybe I can inject some life into the thread...

Over at the Ascendant Justice Blog, voc takes a look at the franchise and how it might translate over to a feature-length film - in A Film Called Halo, he focuses specifically on the story of Halo, as well as some of the players that have been involved with the film's progress so far (WETA, Garland, Beattie) - and what good or bad we might could expect from their involvement.

And there's a prize at the bottom of the box, so to speak, for those who make it to the end of the article. ; )

O snap.......Halo screenplay.

darn this thread has been relatively dead the last 24 hours. Are that many people playing the Halloween playlist? :lol

I LOVE zombie games, and would have been all over it all weekend, but it's ranked this go-round and you can go in with a party, which is total ass. Aside from that, everyone on my list that is usually playing Halo has been playing Fallout 3, with a lesser extent Fable 2 now.

Saw that yesterday, will read the script when I get the chance (stop playing Dead Space).
Still think a Fall of Reach script or a script that includes the chiefs upbringing would be best, but oh well, just my opinion.

Same here. :(

Awesome read, except for this part:

...but the notion of hijacking one of the most beloved science fiction tales of our generation for some experimental cinematographic venture is confusing.

I gave a pretty huge chuckle when I read this. The story in Halo is good, but not that good.

Of our generation. It is not being compared to Star Wars, Ender's Game, Aliens or anything else like that.

What's defining our generation? 2000 to present? It's still laughable.
Yeah, 2000/2001-present. I wouldn't put Halo anywhere close to any of the things I mentioned earlier, but compared with other science fiction stories of this generation? I don't think it's unreasonable to call it "one of the most beloved..." What other science fiction stories have been as popular as Halo? The Matrix? Maybe a few others? Halo's on up there. Definitely not "laughable."

Just because it's popular doesn't make it good, and most people play Halo for the multiplayer, not for the story. 2000 to present I wouldn't consider "our generation" more like 1990 to present.

Edit: Voc, reading the ancillary right now. It's like reading another Halo novel!:D

Halo 3 sold 8 million copies. So basically, you think there's like 6 million people playing Halo 3 online?

:lol

Awesome post. Would read again.

Seriously, though, it would be interesting to see out of those sales, how many people NEVER went online...I have a feeling it wouldn't be all that large.

I think it would be a majority. Seriously, people bought the original Halo for the campaign, not for multiplayer. Since then, it may seem like most people buy Halo for multiplayer, but that's just an impression you get from being around people on GAF and such, who are more likely to have Xbox Live. The people who buy halo for the single player are a fairly quiet majority.

Were you alive in the 1990s?

I am greatly looking forward to the sales numbers for H3: Recon. It'll be nice to finally get a good perspective on how many people buy Halo for the campaign.

Roughly 2 million of those copies were bought by Jironmo.

heh, halo is sci fi for the low life commoners. *sips apple teeny* now for us intellects we can watch sci fi for the educated such as star trek the original series, the animated series, phase II, the next generation, deep space nine, voyager, enterprise, the motion picture, the wraith of khain, the search for spock, the voyage home, the final frontier, the undiscovered counry, star trek generations, first ocntact, insurrections and nemesis.

I'm a methodical reader, so it took me awhile, but I just finished Voc's 130+ page screenplay.

http://ascendantjustice.com/files/voc/film/halo.pdf

It's easily better than Garland's screenplay, which I had read a long time ago. It's really good, so nice work.

I'm not sure if that much action and story would fit into a 1.5 to 2 hour movie, but here's what I like a lot about your script:

(Spoilered for those who haven't read it yet)
1. It handles the two things you stated in your article that were not clearly explained in the game - why the Flood were released by the Covenant and why the Pillar of Autumn wasn't destroyed immediately when the Covenant had the chance
2. Shows the perspective from the Covenant side - they're not evil aliens. They have their own motives for what they do - something we don't see any of in the first game.
3. The Commander is introduced who would become the Arbiter in the sequel if it was ever made.
4. Introduces Vadumee, and through well integrated story, shows how he becomes Half Jaw ;-)
5. Great horror and action elements
6. I like the Carter / Williams bit, bringing drama and horror
7. Much better than Garland's stupid Silva character, Johnson is in the script like he should be, with awesome dialogue and action
8. All the stuff about the Commander is pretty awesome, fighting the Chief, flying the Banshee, etc.
9. Deals with the Chief in the same way that the game does - he doesn't talk much, and we go through the story having Cortana as our guide, and the Chief is just along for the ride. How many lines of dialogue does he have in your script? Not many, but somehow it doesn't seem out of place. He's there to do his job. He's a riddle, wrapped in an enigma, etc. etc. and stays that way. Nicely done. Much better than Garland.
*edit*
10. Nice set up for a sequel with the Heretic grabbing 343 after the credits, and obviously the Commander facing punishment for failing.

What I don't like:
1. Might confuse the audience in some places with some of the Prophet/Elite politics, history and intrigue. It's awesome for a fan of Halo, but might need to be dumbed down a little bit. Dunno, just my opinion
2. There's probably too much action to fit into a 1.5 to 2 hour movie. I'm not sure what would have to be cut - it would be sad to cut key moments from the game from the movie, but it might be necessary. The ending is a little off - I like the dramatic nature of having Spark fly up into space and leave the audience maybe thinking the Chief is dead, but you know, none of the audience really would think the Chief is dead. If you give them the benefit of the doubt that they'll understand all the Prophet/Elite politics then you also should know that this extraneous ending will seem overly cliche. I can't think of anything better but I think it needs some revision.

All in all, totally awesome and a fun read.

Luke, Shishka, Urk, whoever - download this and pass it on to Staten and whoever else at Bungie needs to see it. :-)

strange coming from someone who loves halo novels so much

and living dead playlist is awesome

Pretty amazing script, Voc. Massive kudos for throwing your work out there. Aside from a few probably intentional cheesy moments, I enjoyed it quite a bit, especially the integration of the elite's side of things.

However, two things I have questions on.

Did the prophets, In this case,....Absolution, I think it was, know that Halo was merely a flood container device? I can't recall them knowing the journey would kill them all, at least, off the top of my head....

Also, why no fighting in the library scene? It seems almost arbitrarily chopped down to a direct teleport. Yes, having the fights over and over again would be boring, but maybe at least having the chief covered in flood goo, smoking assault rifle with dead flood carcasses littering the library floor, or some other indication of battle (that I might have missed) would help there.

Other than those two...excellent work.

People bought the original Halo because it was a select few games for the xbox at the time... and they discovered the MP....

I remember buying it for both, split screen co-op through a very fun campaign, and 4 player split screen and system link multi-player that was the best I had ever played.

Also, nice script Voc, just read through a few pieces of it and looks good, I'll need some time to go through it word by word though.
