There's nothing to discuss.
Mat Noguchi did a presentation on utilizing the on-board cache in the 360 -- this really shouldn't be much of a surprise to the informed. "Installing" isn't going to improve experiences globally, and in our case, it doesn't at all. Spin the disc, it's how the game was built :)
Bah, I have to use the install feature because my disc doesn't work for shit >.< It should at least be able to verify, after I use a friends disc to install... *crosses fingers* Longer loading times for me I guess :D

Who do you expect to be the informed? A hundred Bungie fan nerds that listen to your podcast? They're nothing in comparison to the other millions of people that own an Xbox and are trying the feature out. :lol

Edit: Oh and maybe 50 people that attended a physical presentation and which have nothing to do with forum goers and enthusiast press because they're probably developers. (Then I wonder if they even remember such presentation.)

Why the hell is that Eurogamer article so negative in tone when it's clear that there are generally advantages to installing the games?

Of course there isn't anything to discuss. I'll admit, that was the wrong word to use. I was merely pointing out an article that had something Halo 3 related. It appears, in the article since I don't listen to the podcasts, that it was already discussed recently. That's cool, I wasn't aware of the fact.

I guess this link to the Eurogamer article is just for anyone who wanted to see the actual differences when loading some campaign levels.

Typical shallow Bungie response.

Where all the other Bungie nerds rallying to defend you and attack me? They're usually much quicker!

You should be practicing for the next Recon challenge,
and preparing to enjoy the TJ Ramirez account fate :(

Jokes aside, installation for 360 games wasn't really something we were told about while Halo 3 was in development. Like someone above said, we had to get the game running under the parameters we (and tons of other devs) were given (i.e., 'no hard drive, no problem') and Noguchi's cache-system is a huge part of why it runs as awesome as it does in the no-HDD environment. Games that use the cache memory extensively aren't going to see much if any benefit from installing on the 360 since the data transfer from the HDD is slower than it is from the disc if the disc is spinning information to the cache.

No doubt this will satisfy everyone, they will understand the technical benefits and never complain again. Hurrah!

Well fuck, there goes my playing Oblivion over winter break.

Thanks for the timesaver, Luke.

Well, all that HDD space isn't going to fill itself, now is it?

With a 20 gig, it pretty much does.

Is it me, or is match making really, really laggy today? I've never had 3 lagtastic games in a row before. Then again, being stuck by a plasma, only to have it disappear because of the lag, is always nice :)

Halo 3 was going to be the first game I install on my harddrive when the update went live, but there really isn't a need to?

When you play online, the game doesn't start until everyone has loaded the map. It'll help with Campaign/Theatre/Solo Forge, but that's about it.

Why Halo 3 is bad

In today's society, Halo 3 is a big problem. I think Halo 3 can be good or bad, but it's usually bad. For example, Halo 3 is good when it benefits one group, but bad when it doesn't. In this essay, I will talk about how Halo 3 is bad and should be changed.

One reason why Halo 3 is bad is because it is unfair. Not everyone has the same advantages in life, like a stinky bum and sexy stripper. A guy I know dropped out of school and he doesn't have a stripper. I think it's because of Halo 3.

This girl I knew became stupid because of Halo 3. This was a very bad day for her at first. Her dad got pissed. He was very controlling. Their fight was all because of Halo 3.

One reason why Halo 3 exists is because the nation is morally declining. Television is full of shows that make Halo 3 seem funny, but it's not a laughing matter. One episode of 'some shitty show' (but I don't remember which one) has the main character tell a joke that revolves around Halo 3. That's not amusing in the least. Freud knew that jokes were often signs of deep-set emotional problems, and I think any one who is guilty of Halo 3 has some issues.

Now that I have proven Halo 3 is a problem, I have to come up with solutions. I think we need to ban Halo 3. You should write your Congressman about Halo 3 and tell him how bad Halo 3 is.You can also avoid Halo 3 yourself. Act locally and globally to prevent Halo 3 from getting any worse.

No other topic is more important and explains better the demise of our society than the saga of Blueblur1. Without going into all the gory details, let's just say that given a choice of having Blueblur1 create massive civil unrest or having my bicuspids extracted sans Novocaine, I, speaking as someone who is not a humorless leech, would embrace the pliers, purchase some Polident Partials, and call it a day. He is catty, obstinate, ignorant, stroppy, daft, and peevish. Need I go on? If nothing else, it will not be easy to advocate social change through dialogue, passive resistance, and nonviolence. Nevertheless, we must attempt to do exactly that for the overriding reason that Blueblur1 cannot be tamed by "tolerance" and "accommodation" but is actually spurred on by such gestures. He sees such gestures as a sign of weakness on our part and is thereby encouraged to continue turning nudniks loose against us good citizens. That's all I have to say about Blueblur1 so I guess I'll stop writing now. Oh, and Blueblur1: Before you start formulating a smart reply, don't bother because I'm just not interested.

Sound like you eat a lot of pizza Luke. Might want to cut back and indulge in today's modern health fad. Personally, I get tired of pizza.

It'd be worth it if H2 ruined my 360. This game is the cornerstone of FPS console gaming and should be copied by all games. Fuck bullet lag (leading shots). Fuck shitty netcode (GoW/2 Shotgun) Fuck any other MM interface. Fuck any ranking system that isnt H2's. Fuck dwarfing gameplay so everybody and their sister can hold R with an AR and then melee for a kill.

H2 had it right.

And no I will never play Halo 4 and look back and say I miss Halo 3. If that does happen I would say Fuck Halo 4 I miss Halo 2. Since H2 > H3.

Seriously I think I played 10 games of Halo 2 today and every single time I died and got out br'd I understood what happened and I realized what happened. I had 0 games with lag every single game was green bar.

The one complaint of BS I had was some of my beatdowns missed and I remember how bad the melee hit was. That is the one area of H3 that wins. Not the cheesy noob style melee system where both players can win to try and avoid host advantage, but the process of beating down almost never misses if you are within range and aiming in the right direction.
