I wonder if it can be expanded to be as big as Sandtrap.

I'm interested in this as well. Mostly I'm interested to know if the ground under those bases is part of the world geometry, or if it was placed in Forge. For example, the Forerunner stone / metal ground that has sand partially covering it.

I'm not seeing any seams where this ground meets the rest of the sand dunes and terrain, which would seem (pun) to indicate that it is part of the world geometry and is not Forge geometry placed over the terrain. I'm convinced they haven't built a complete terrain editor into Forge.

So... I'm leaning towards it being part of the world, and therefore that is your general playable boundary. I'm also guessing that there's hazards outside of this boundary similar to Sandtrap to keep play within the those bounds.

I'm having trouble imagining how big Sandbox in comparison to Sandtrap from the picture we are given. It looks to be a half to about three-fourths the size of Sandtrap.
 
Woo, I played Smashed for the first time today. It was a bit too messy for me, didn't seem to have any kind of flow to the action, but it was nice to try something new.

Indeed, there are lights on the ground just inside the shadows of the perimeter, similar to the markers along the minefield in Sandtrap. It's pretty far out there though; looks similar in size to Sandtrap.
 
I just want to be able to play Squad Battle with my friends. Why does it not work. : (

Just tell him that you're sorry to hear that, and that your thoughts are with his brother and family, or something ridiculous like that.

Play dumb with these people, and they might realize the error of their ways, and stop bothering you. That's what I did to a guy who kept challenging me to a 1v1 duel for recon, even though I don't have recon.

Perhaps we can change the size of the grid? The flat part where all the geometry is added. Kinda makes sense.

About those wierd marks on some of the shapes? I'm thinking it's a snapping node. Kinda like glueing things together in LBP, but with work-points. hopefully they got bunch of general shapes that we can snap together and move/copy as one big piece.

Does anybody remember a video of Halo 3 running at 60 frames per second? It was Floodgate and there was obviously some trickery with the capture speed and editing. I was just wondering if anyone had an idea of how to do it. I wanna see if I can do it too :D

So as it turns out, E309 isn't open to the public, as was rumoured. Looks like there will not be another HaloGAF party until PAX09.

My guess would be that he played back the clip at half speed on his Xbox when recording it, then doubled the speed later when editing it on his computer.

Thats what I was thinking. Seems tricky keeping it consistently at half speed though

Truthfully, I have never entertained the notion of a terrain editor in Forge since the feature was first announced, but I had thought that the blue grid, the bizarre lighting of this map (and how strange it is within its skybox) and several other indicators make the concept of a prefabricated landscape/skybox a possibility -- particularly considering the Forge inclusion of filter orbs in the last batch. Does this mean we'd get a lush and verdant valley or an asymmetrical island of some sort chalk full of decorators and dynamic lighting? Not likely at this point, but I was considering the possibility of choosing between different geometric base frameworks, like an entirely flat environment made of Forerunner stone from end to end or maybe no flat areas at all, just a series of prefabricated dunes.

In the end, though, what we're getting here has some incredible potential with or without the aforementioned feature set. We know there's other Sandbox geometry available in Forge from the two "thank you" videos Bungie released earlier. Given the sparse and lean design of this map and just the general flat surface that is included, there seems to be a lot of healthy room for Forge-work. If the right pieces are available, I could see attempts to roughly recreate the schematic direction of old school maps like Sanctuary, Warlock and Turf -- or at least capture their design philosophy. If that's not reason for celebration enough, than I don't know what could be.

It's weird though, I've been recieveing requests weekly from new people, 1 here and there. For the last year and we haven't been posting it very much. So people must be sharing the tag through LIVE, which is pretty cool. I rarely play with people on that tag but it's cool that others are using it.

I posted it here a few weeks after the game came out...search the thread (heheh, gonna be tough).

No trickery, just play a map like Valhalla, record the footage, replay the footage by holding down the right trigger half way, and voila Halo 3 at 60fps. It looks freaking sweet.

Yeah, it looks sweet. I'm thinking of recording all my clips like that if i can.

I hope there are more than just sandy blocks in Sandbox.

As much as I appreciate some of the creations made in Foundry, they all look so drab with the same old boxes piled everywhere.

Fuck. Just... fuck.

After several weeks of working perfectly, my Halo 3 disk has crapped itself. Every single map, multiplayer or campaign, fails to load. It won't install to the hard drive. Anything that might help? (Disk polishing, some other cleaning, replacement program, new disk aaaaargh)
 
Wait, a picture was news? Got to frame that picture with sexy words. =)

Obviously the cat was kidnapped from the bag, so no big reveal anymore. Would like to see some clarifications regarding what to expect from the map. Some folk expecting landscape and gardening tools, weather editing and Disney sponsored skyboxes need put in their place.
