Eazy, if you could find where you read that, I'd appreciate it.
Since I beat Eazy to the first answer I'll beat him to this as well. For kicks.

http://www.gamepro.com/article/prev...bungies-joseph-staten-talks-halo-3-expansion/

GamePro: Will Halo 3: ODST include any new multiplayer maps or online features? And will the multiplayer game feature the traditional Spartans, or playable ODST characters?

Staten: Halo 3: ODST will include a variety of new multiplayer maps that apply to Halo 3. Some of these maps are actually part of the Mythic Map Pack that will initially be released on Xbox LIVE Marketplace early next year. This multiplayer content is "Halo 3" in nature, meaning you will not be playing Slayer, CTF or other traditional favorites as anything other than a Spartan or Elite.

In addition, the core ODST campaign can still be experienced cooperatively with up to four players, including saved films, screenshots, campaign scoring and all the great functionality Halo fans have come to enjoy. Beyond that, we're keeping mum on any other multiplayer components of Halo 3: ODST.
New maps and co-op are covered in his answer, so I'm not sure what else he could be alluding to.

Edit: Bows down to Ghaleon. Tonight old people have been redeemed.

Ghaleon was correct. It was Staten's interview with Gamepro I was thinking of. Here's the quote:

Ah, okay. I was hoping I'd missed something specific where they hinted at a non-competitive MP feature.

"might"?

I just got home from the acupuncturist, and have only read the first bit of the Update, but I laughed so fucking hard when I read the "...or down as the case may be." on the front page. :lol
Well, it depends on if the community really does take advantage of the map. It has almost limitless potential but those 5-star custom maps don't make themselves! I still really enjoy old Halo 1 and Halo 2 maps so my tastes are different. Obviously, I still have yet to even play on Sandbox so I'm not willing to say it is the best thing ever.

But it looks great

Well yeah. It has the most potential of any Halo map, and given what we got from Foundry, I think we'll see that potential realized.

I'm just looking forward to making my castle in the sky.

Maybe instead of calling sandbox the best map ever, how about the forger's best map ever or something like that. The potential it has is astounding and I can't wait to get my hands on it, now just to free up some space to save new maps.
100 limits sucks, and too lazy to make a silver account

You see, this is what I was trying to say earlier.

I'm sure the community will make loads and loads of great maps. There are great ones in Foundry, but you still don't see them in any playlist setup in Matchmaking (outside MLG playlist).

That's the question here. Great potential, but will it be fulfilled by adding tons of the map variants into Ranked Playlists?

I'm hoping there will be a playlist dedicated to them. Just so people won't get bitchy about playing them out of the blue.

foundry was forged to its potential imo. i still see people on my friends list working away on 5 level mlg maps on it despite sandbox looming. its just bungie needs to find the solid maps and put them in, instead of fighting with forgehub or eating pizza.

Can't wait to see some Boarding Action remakes. I've never played Halo 1 MP, but by exploring the map you could tell it must have been fun.

In my Gemini remake, I plan on replacing the the prophet statue with "Bob.":lol

Oh my god that is so awesome. We need a Halo space combat game stat.

<3 saved films

Had a couple of mysterious events in one game last night - first a double kill and then a triple, neither of which I actually saw. So I went back to find WTF happened. This is the double.

Three levels confirmed! :D

I find it interesting that Lars and Dan said that there was stuff Foundry could do that Sandbox couldn't...wonder what they mean by that one.

Also can't help but wonder if there will be more filters. :P

I didn't know she still made music, I saw her on a Rimmel London advert the other day.

Well one reason they mentioned is that a good portion of the basement's wall is slanted which limits what you can do with it.

Sanbox_Crypt.jpg

They said they made it that way to maintain a "crypt" look to it. I'd rather sacrifice the crypt look for a more utilitarian box but after all that Sandbox delivers I find it hard to complain. I do wonder about the map's relative height and base area. It seems like the ground floor is smaller than Foundry's canvas but I wonder how it compares to Foundry's size after putting a divider down the side to make it a rectangle.

Even with the slated roof the basement still looks like a much more forge-friendly map. Foundry had slanted geometry conecting each wall the the floor. Had windows creating chunks in the wall. The garage doors and their frames are also a bitch to work with. Then there's the little clamp things hanging from the ceiling along with the ceiling frame wrapped around the entire level. The soft ceiling was also a hindrance. Then there's the curved ends of the boxes which maps are made out of and the need to merge ever single object together to keep gaps smooth.

So while the basement has the unnecessarily slanted roof it fixes almost all of Foundry's problems. I for one have abandoned Foundry and have even stopped myself from going back in there knowing that sandbox can realize anything map design better than Foundry.

I can sorta understand why Bungie doesn't want to dismiss Foundry, I'm sure a lot of hard work went into designing and creating that map, but the fact that they've designed something that totally obliterates it in almost every single way is amazing and they should be proud of that. Foundry was a necessary step towards realizing everything that forge could be, Sandbox. They designed forge to be a weapon and spawn mover so Foundry was already a giant leap. It's served its duty and may Foundry rest in piece.

While I do think that once Sandbox releases, the vast majority of new Forge maps will be made on it (Probably 90-10%, there will still be some love given to Foundry.

Oh hell yeah.

Are you just thinking by people who don't have sandbox yet? I probably won't know until I get to mess around with it but I don't really see a reason to use foundry when there is sandbox.

Question: Are the Sky Bubble and The Crypt both being rendered while playing default Sandbox in MM?
I'm sure they will be.

Wouldn't that not be resource friendly, especially when dealing with 7 other connections? Rendering two HUGE spaces, both of which no one can get to when playing default Sandbox? :P

LagBox confirmed?

Well, all of Sandtrap is rendering. And the middle level of Sandbox is smaller than that - I'm assuming it was balanced out between the levels.

I wonder if we'll see some clever uses of all three levels. There could be some epic CTF matches with teleporters going between the planes.

Isn't Sky Bubble basically nothing anyway? Unless something has been forged into it that is. But if its not accessible there'd be nothing up there anyway. The Crypt is a different matter...

There isn't much to render in the first place, so I doubt it would be that big of a deal.

Unless you go and place all the unused items in the other spaces, like Eazy placing all the choppers in the middle level on a crypt-only map just so there can technically be choppers. Even then, I don't think it would ever get too bad.

Mmm, that makes sense.

Do we know what happens to objects that fall from the skybox? Like a flag, gun, body, etc? I know bullets can go completely through the skybox and ground.
I would assume they reset/playball?

Still, Foundry will get used, at the least by anyone who doesn't have it, and for those who do have it, very little.

I'd assume the budget is set the way it is so that all objects being used simultaneously would still be playable over live with a fairly decent host too.

Has this been explained yet -- how far below the soft ceiling/grid is the death barrier? They can't be at the same height can they?
