My friend and I have been playing Halo together since 2004 and we've had our fair share of great Halo memories. However, none of these good times can compare to a single fateful game of Team Snipers on Waterworks in Halo 2 many years ago
I've never been very good with the sniper rifle and neither has my friend, so at the time we would play a lot of Team Snipers in order to gain practice with the weapon. One evening we entered into a match of Team Snipers on Waterworks. The match began with a very enthusiastic team mate (much younger than either of us) pumping up the gang with his delusions of victory and grandeur. The flames of his enthusiasm were quickly doused however, as my friend and I proceeded (as we usually did) as lambs to the slaughter. Despite our heads being taken off at regular intervals, the game was fairly even all the way through, with our now angry (and bossy) cohort leading the charge with a slew of kills. Throughout the game his strained voice could be heard yelling at us to either quit or simply hide. To his chagrin, we did neither of those things but played as best we could.
Finally, the end of the bloody match came. With 20 seconds left and a tied score of 49-49, one single kill from either team would mean victory. It was at this point that our overly-enthused (and incredibly frustrated) team mate exhorted us at the top of his lungs to NOT DIE and JUST HIDE! I finally complied, narrowly missing being headshotted as I ducked into the blue base. My friend, perched high above, decided to do the same and cowered behind a large outcropping of rock. For the next 10 seconds or so not a single shot was fired, leading us to believe that the enemy was likewise hiding out. A tie game was inevitable.
As I sat there, heart pounding, waiting for the game to end, I noticed some team movement on my HUD. My friend's team indicator, a distinctive green icon, began to move. I thought that this was quite unusual since we were supposed to be hiding and the game literally had a mere 3 seconds to go. Then again, I knew that feeling of restlessness all too well, making hiding for 20 seconds seem like an eternity. For those final seconds, I tracked the movement of my friend and noticed something disturbing about his path: it was straight down and faster than normal walking speed. As the final seconds melted away, I saw my friend's icon break that horizontal plane known as the ground and descend into the watery pit below. With a single second left on the clock I saw that familiar bright green icon turn into a red X, and the opponents final score roll over from 49 to 50.
My friend and I spent the next 10 minutes without conversation. This was not from anger or disappointment, but from laughter. As our angry team mate cursed us and our posterity, inventing swear words that would make sailors cry, I backed out of the lobby completely breathless and unable to speak. After several minutes of stitch-inducing laughter, my friend explained that he was curious to see if he could squeeze out the winning shot so he leaped triumphantly onto the outcropping that he had so boldly been hiding behind. In his excitement at the possibility of being the hero, he overshot the jump and proceeded to fall silently into the abyss of Waterworks, thus breaking the tie game at the last possible moment.
In all my years of playing Halo, with all the crazy situations and people that I've come across, nothing comes close to topping this experience. It really reinforced the fact to me that games are not about winning or losing, but about having fun and laughing with your friends.
As for the franchise's main character, O'Connor says, "I doubt we have seen the last of Master Chief."
Does the article specify wether it is frank or the chief that is still alive?Domino Theory said:He's still alive?

(Rest of the USA Today article talks about Frank's view of ODST, the new Halo comics from Marvel, ODST comics from Marvel and alittle bit of Halo Wars.)
I think most of use would have come to the conclusion that, yes, he is still alive.Domino Theory said:He's still alive?

Thanks, updated map list and queued for download. I wasn't able to get a whole lot of games in on Bladed's map but the ones I did play were just as, if not more, fun as Assemble. Assemble's excess of cover and broken sight lines are really starting to bother me.alisdair said:Eazy, here's Bladed's Mage v2.

soldat7 said:Well, I didn't win a code from 1UP, but here is my favorite Halo memory. I had a lot of fun writing this:
My fondest memories of Halo gaming have to be the 1v1 Slayer games I played on Lockout (in Halo 2) with a good friend of mine. Pretty much every time we came online to play (which was quite often), we would do a 'warm-up' 1v1 match on Lockout before jumping into Team Doubles.
Both of us really loved Lockout, so we always had a real blast. I would usually lose, but not by much, and the occasional win was good enough for me. I learned a lot of tricks from him, though, such as good grenade strategy and a few useful jumps. Lockout was pretty much the perfect map for that at the time.
Many months later, Halo 3 was about to be released, and it was time to say goodbye to Halo 2. So my friend and I had one last 1v1 game on Lockout, to give the game that had kept us entertained for nearly 3 years a proper farewell. It was an amazingly tense game, and with the score at 14-14, my friend landed an extraordinary grenade kill on me to win the game. We would have both gladly seen a replay of that game, but alas the Saved Films feature would only be released with Halo 3 a few weeks later.
And so it was that we left Halo 2 for Halo 3 and its expanded arsenal of weapons, equipment, vehicles and, most importantly, features. Halo 3 has brought us a lot of joy, but somehow we never returned to our regular 1v1 matches. Perhaps it was because Halo 3 lacked good, small maps such as Lockout. Perhaps it was because Lockout's remake, Blackout, changed a few crucial details for the worse. Or perhaps it was because we had simply moved on, and found other aspects of Halo 3 to be amused by.
Either way, this match was the end of an era.

Thanks for keeping this list going. I pulled Skyline down, might put it up again if I do a 2.0 version...but I think I'll just retire it. It was a fun "Ghaleon learns how to Forge" map, but not much else. :lolEazyB said:Adding Ghaleon's new map as well as updated an updated version of both Dax's and my own map.
