Speaking of Rat's Nest, I really wish *Shishka* would rotate in a new version of the map that fixes the spawn issues on the outer circle, specifically in the corners where the issue isn't that you spawn there in front of a Warthog as much as you spawn there with absolutely no cover until you find your way into the center structure. It's just far to easy to get an unfortunate spawn location like that and have absolutely no way of fighting back because you're already knee-deep in damage and your only real option is to somehow kill someone who is really just glad you have nowhere to hide.

Just need to throw up a few boxes/walls/whatever to hide behind and it'd be golden.

Bonus points if the spawning in front of a car in the street can be fixed too, but I imagine that's beyond the scope of Forge.

EDIT: Just did some research (mind you it's 6am) and it seems like moving some extra barriers to the elevated corners and spawns out of the center of the road could more or less fix what blatant spawn issues exist with the map.

He's trying to make fun of amateur MLG players when they say 'get 4 shoted(is that even a word?)'. It takes a minimum of 4 shots to kill someone with a BR, usually players say it to show that they have impeccable aim. It originated from Halo1 when shooting and killing a player with 3 shots from the Pistol actually required skill.

And yes, I have been 180 shoted by an SMG in halo2. It was by a fucking elite on warlock.

But why are you calling it a 180-shot? You'd have to be standing awfully far back for it to take 180 smg shots to kill someone.

And I don't know that the BR takes any less skill to use than the pistol. I'd even say it takes more skill, since 1) you have to keep the cursor on the opponent's head for the entire burst in order for all the bullets to hit, and 2) It's a 4-shot rather than a 3-.

This has been, in my opinion, the best map pack of the three. While the lack of decent large maps (Sandbox default is bad imo) is disapointing Orbital is fantastic and the forge capabilities of Sandbox give it lasting worth. Assembly, not so flash but neither is Ghost Town or Standoff.

My second map, Worship is nearing completion. Here's a better sneak peak at what to expect. I'm 80% happy with it at the moment. Once red base is complete I'll tinker with some things but am pretty happy with the Warlock/Midship inspired map.

I like the name and the way it plays into the map, anyway :D

Like Eazy said, it's too early for final judgement, but let's break out the maths for an initial scoreboard. Here's my Dax-style rankings of all the DLC maps.

That's a great post. I love reading posts where people feel the same way about Heavies as I do. I'm at that same point where I'm alyways tempted to quit those games as soon as they don't get vetoed, but I stick around long enough to see if we'll wipe them out or if we're getting wiped out. I don't enjoy it either way. I've lost my patience with Heavies. It has ruined BTB for me. The randoms on my team always quit first so it ends up being a painfully long match where the other team tries to reach 100 by killing the remaining guys on my team. It's the worst thing to ever show up in Halo. I would rather have Team Melee BTB on Sandtrap than play this shit ever again.

Avalanche is actually very easy to get around considering its size. I've never had an issue getting to the other side in a quick manner between vehicles, mancannons, and the keyhole. I love the pace of that map.

And Golden Grahams should never be used next to the word "shit" unless one is saying "Golden Grahams are the shit" or that Golden Grahams taste like the polar opposite of shit.
Or "Compared to Cinnamon Grahams, Golden Grahams are shit."

fake edit: Oh okay apparently they were only called that in the UK (our name for Cinnamon Toast Crunch), and now called Curiously Cinnamon? What?

bj00rn_ - there are a number of 'older gamer' groups that get together for just this sort of fun. The first was 2old2play - but they might be too big to be 'fun' any more, I don't know.

Another one is Seasoned Gamers - visit the forum, look for groups doing customs.

Geezer Gamers are out there, too. And others. You're not alone.:D

So much to catch up on. BIOSHOCK 2 TEASER, some new maps from HaloGAF, new Star Trek trailer.

Metroid, I'll download your map when I get home from school. Can I try it out with you tonight?

Ignoring Forge capabilities (if you don't like MLG or custom games), Mythic > Legendary > Heroic. Sandbox's Forge potential makes things even better. I have confidence that the playlists will be run better than before, and we'll see more community maps in there.

There's a lot to be positive about!
May not agree with the individual scores, but I'll agree that each map pack has been consecutively better than the previous one(s).

You guys have it all wrong. You think people who play the game competitively and myself(well i use to) are all sulky little bitches that have no soul and take the game serious 100% of the time. But that's not the truth.

I'll admit(backflip, tashi, juices, and some others will too) that I don't like to lose. While playing MLG or trying to get certain achievements I'll do the occasional "move dumbass" or the "wtf i shot him and the shit didn't register" or even the "wow, i'm so bad. brb i'm going to break my fucking disk" but I like to have fun while playing BTB or like playing mythic today with some of GAF. Even though I don't understand the whole AR start and the retarded Golden Grahm shit wtf? I wouldn't mind playing with you guys.

Really, ya'll(everyone) should stop acting so elitist over everyone. Maybe even get a big custom of HaloGAF together or even play a few games. Who knows you might have fun losing.

HAHA j/k about the losing part :p

For some reason I thought of:

Your "best"! Losers always whine about their best. Winners go home and fuck the prom queen.

I hate it when I lose too :(

Dude, c'mon, you really don't think this is at play right now, do you?

If you think Juices comments (both past and present) were in line and his calling for Shishka to be fired is part of normal, educated human behavior (ie. the type of behavior we should expect from a normal, educated human being that is) than we have a LONG way to go to meet in the middle. If you don't like the Mythic Maps, that's cool, just say "I don't dig the maps and here are the reasons why..." in a stoic and educated fashion, maybe even making modest recommendations for Bungie's future DLC.

What he said above sounds like a underdeveloped, poorly-parented teenage child (which I'd like to believe Juices isn't) who has no real understanding of how to deal with disappointment in a video game, no less the real world, which I would shudder to think that they might experience one day. I mean it's a video game for Christ's sake; why this much nerd rage? When people complain with this much passion about trivial shit like this, it makes me wonder if they even know what it feels like to have a real job, a car payment, a mortgage and God forbid, other human beings depending on them for survival.

As a proponent of BR-starts and no radar, as well as a fan of the MLG school of thought, this sort of activity embarrasses me. How am I supposed to defend my own opinions in this regard when many of the people on this forum who argue the same points are too busy being internet dicks to present their arguments in calm and reasonable fashion? Tell me, please.

by also being an internet dick

or failing that, a d-bag.

Anyways, I need to learn to stop being so OCD about things being symmetrical and perfectly placed, because it's ruining my fun in Forge. I don't know how I even play maps like Orbital. I usually get too distracted by yelling "NOT SYMMETRICAL' :(

I have this "tradition" with my old friend to play Halo 3 MP about one time a week. Let me tell you, it's really fucking hard for "older" gamers like us to play this game against "the kids" online. They are just too good sometimes to have fun. I don't have time to enjoy my games through camping or training to do no-scopes better. Wish there was a Halo 3 ye olde gamer league - Or something :lol

Yup. I still like to think that I'm decent for a 30-year old though. I just need to keep telling myself that ;)

My impressions:

Assembly: Solid map. Too many rounded edges to hide under.

Orbital: Confusing setup. Too much grenade spamming.

Sandbox: The default map is bad. Not enough cover. Everything is way too far out in the open. And it's retarded that the only way to get on top of the bases is from the way back or by using a lift. Dumb.

WTF ever happened to "Render to Video" or whatever for Bungie Pro users? This was announced in like October. lol
Has there been an announcement I missed regarding whether this is actually coming or not?

IIRC, it was mentioned that the hosting solution for the podcast would piggy back on the hosting solution for the render to video feature. We know they're having issues with the hosting solution for podcasts.

Could have just broken out the jump to conclusions mat here, but I'm guessing that's a factor.

You can also crouch-jump from the square-topped stone at the rocket side of the base up to the flag platform.

I might be getting a xbox live trial thing, so if it permits me, I'll put my latest edition of Firmament on the fileshare. It is my first forge map and more of a trial and error. I'll try to attempt a new one in the crypt. It's going to be asymmetrical in a way.

Ya, that may be....Although I am still confused (as they've joked on the podcast) as to how Bungie of all people has trouble hosting their podcast. lol

Anyway, hopefully render to video comes soon, looking forward to that!

Yeah, true, forgot about that when I was writing up my impressions. I don't know, I feel like Sandbox default should have been shifted around a bit to incorporate a sniper. Also, the warthog doesn't seem to fit in very well.

Really? I played a match a couple of nights ago where the opposing team got both Warthogs and went to town. They went up like 35-20 or something.

The Warthog dominates right after people use up the Rockets in the first minute of the map - the only challenge is to make sure that you get a gunner if you're playing with randoms...

Yeah, on the Sandbox default, if you can get a hog circling the perimeter and someone on top of their base to keep them spawning outside of the base ... it can end pretty quickly.

I haven't had a game where that was the case yet. The hog always gets taken out by missile pod/rockets/power drain/flipped by brute shot/eaten by chopper after a minute or so. In my experience so far, not enough people know where the anti-vehicular tools are yet; half the time I'm the one grabbing stuff to end a hog spree.

I don't know dude to me it doesn't seem like the Warthog has a lot of room to maneuver around sandbox so it would be difficult for it to dominate without getting stuck. Also as long as you don't have someone on your team that immediately goes to the missile pod and blindly fire them in the air, you should pretty much always have that to fall back on if the hog is giving you a lot of trouble.

We played a match of griffball against him and no matter what I did his hammer was better than mine. Seriously every time we were remotely close to each other I would die and there was nothing I could do......it still haunts my dreams.

haha...I've had matches like that against some people before-it truly is haunting. ;)

But ya, Bumper Hogs is a ton of fun~After a few minutes, man cannons and grav lifts start to pop up to make it harder to stay on the platform.

I'm not saying that it doesn't allow your team to get a shitload of kills. I just don't think that it really fits in well. The map feels too small for a warthog.

And Blood, Grifball is all about connection. Last night I was played a game with Juices, Echo Eagle, Kevin Ro and Fin. I was able to somehow pull host and the results were ridiculous. Check out my stats.

Except that one of the skills required to be a designer is to communicate ideas effectively and positively. So, you still have some work to do on that front.

You'd think one would also have to play Halo 3 to be a designer but that's clearly not the case.

I rarely post in the Halo 3 thread anymore because reasonable intelligent conversation is continually drowned out by the whiners and complainers. I've moved on with my life; maybe some folks around here should do the same. Just an observation.

Bungie.net:
If you've been wanting to plan your assault on Sandbox and graph paper isn't cutting it, why not check out WhtButterflyLiz's awesome Sandbox SketchUp model, detailed below. You have to download both the application, the template, and wrap your mind around some basic 3D modeling concepts, but hey, the mind is maleable. Scroll down to check out the wall-o-text and links to everything you need to get started.

"We at Halo 3 In The WorkPLace were some of the lucky few to receive early access to the Mythic map pack two weeks ago. I got a sweet present from Bungie out of the blue. And I figured the best way to pay that forward into the community at large was to spend my hours replicating Sandbox in SketchUp for map-making purposes.

For those who don't have the maps yet, it's only a morsel of what it's really like to be standing in Sandbox, but it's something. And you've got XXXX days until they show up on the DLC marketplace to use this to plan your perfect Sandbox creations.

For those of you who DO have the maps already and like to forge, this is a great way of quickly throwing your ideas together in 3d to see how they look, see if you really can get five of those blocks in this space, etc. =) "

and here's the source again.

I've only gotten a chance to peak at it but it was long enough to know that I don't have a clue how to work it. Then again I've never done any 3d modeling and my laptop seems to be too weak to handle the program.

Edit: nvm, I'm getting the hang of it.

Between this, Beaver Creek, and Killzone my weekend is as good as gone :P

I'm loving the Mythic maps and the playlist, except for Tundra (at least for SWAT, is there a non-SWAT version?). It feels like a terrible map. What's the point of the base slopes? You can climb up them, but if you walk even an inch backwards you fall all the way to the bottom of the base. Also there are far too many ledges which are roughly 99% of the jump height, completely destroying any kind of dynamic movement through the map. I seriously don't understand what the idea behind this map was except to try something completely backward.

damn, i gotta get these maps already. hopefully i'll get lucky with the weekly update...*crosses fingers*
