LTTP as usual but wanted to throw out my congrats to Voc! One of the best hires to the Halo franchise ever!!! Can't wait to see how Voc's ideas shape the Halo world!
 
Social Slayer. It's just relaxed fun without much pressure. I look forward to the day ALL Halo 3 dlc is free, and forced on that playlist.

If I could create a playlist, it would be:

- Social Team Brs (All dlc required)


I love Flag and assault game-types, but sometimes (especially when I'm all by myself, or with just 1 friend) I just wanna jump on a good 100% slayer play-list.
 
Team snipers: snipers are so satisfying to kill with, especially shots to the back or side of the head as the opponent wanders around oblivious to my presence and subsequently their imminent demise. =]

MLG then Snipers then SWAT. I can't even play non-hardcore playlists anymore due to the complete bullshit weapons, overload of powerups/equipment, and ARs that are found in any other playlist.

Basically all I played in Halo 2 was BTB. But that was because Headlong was fun as hell! In Halo 3 BTB is way too crazy for me and I'd rather play against fewer people.

I usually play social games... DLC and action sack anymore.

Now that I've achieved my rank 45 in Team Slayer, I don't really play the playlist that much anymore. Even during that, I always thought Social Slayer was a better playlist (Team Duals is amazing), and Action Sack and Social BTB are really good playlists. I'm not sure I could choose between the three. Squad Battle is definitely up there, though. Social Skirmish and Social Team DLC are good, too.

I'd organize them as (yes, another list)...

Tier 1 (My Favorites)
- Big Team Battle
- Social Slayer
- Action Sack

Tier 2 (Good)
- Squad Battle
- Social Skirmish
- Social Slayer

Tier 3 (Respectable)
- Team Slayer
- Rumble Pit
- Team Snipers
- Social Team DLC
- Multi Team

Tier 4 (Bad)
- Team Doubles (would be higher were it not for all the boosters and alternate accounts)
- Lone Wolves

Tier 5 (Bottom of the Barrel, The Worst Playlists)
- Team Swat
- MLG
 
Multi-Team is my favorite playlist due to:
-nice mix of slayer & objective gametypes (mostly oddball which is awesome)
-reasonable levels of skill, tactics, and chaos present

I also enjoy Team Flag, Squad Battle/BTB.

MLG is my most disliked. Hardcore may not have been perfect but at least it was fun.

I think it's a lot of fun. I like dual-wielding and it's a chance to use the SMG, Plasma Rifle, and Spiker knowing that you're on a level playing field with everyone else.

When I think of Halo 2, all I can think of is BTB as well. And when I think of BTB, I think of Waterworks. God damn, that map was amazing. Neutral Assault on that map = Heaven. Person who got the wraith would always box up the back, snipers would go up to their peaks in the middle of the map, and everyone else did what they could. Seriously, now that I think about it, that was one of my favorite maps in Halo 2. It was neverending fun.

That, and Headlong. If only the BTB maps in Halo 3 were as good as the ones in Halo 2. Only one that even comes close is Avalanche. I personally dislike Valhalla. Last Resort is OK, Zanzibar was better. I like Rat's Nest, believe it or not. Let's hope the new maps coming out at least bring us another good BTB map.

Team Hardcore was pretty damn fun itself.

I can't see how somebody would say MLG is the worst, but Actionsack is one of the best. Who wants to play Team Stickies, Dodgeball, Team Punchout, and some shit Sumo skybox game? At least MLG's map variants have changed maps like The Pit for the better.

Did you see the screenshots that were released for the last map pack? There is this one map, Longshore, that appears to be another BTB map.

And MLG is far from the worst playlist but it definitely gets dull. Team Flag is the only playlist that matters.

no offense, but your "high level tactics" of 4 shot BR'ing screams keyboard and mouse. AR + well placed grenades + tactical jumping
easier with a controller
FTW. It's the reason PC shooters don't generally have a lot of platforming elements in them, keyboard isn't that good for precise maneuvering, only strafing left and right real quick, lol. Mice are great for bodybodybodyheadshot though, hover and click™ KB+M on console opponents is the equivalent of playing flash based web ads against retarded thumbless apes.

I swear, most MLG online playdowns are a bunch of kids with KB+M, then when they show up to actual live events, they are all kind of shitty. MLG, SWAT and Shotty Sniper playlists on XBL are FULL of kids using keyboard n mouse adapters, it is stupid.

Are you suggesting that I use a keyboard and mouse? If not, I seem to have missed the point of this post.

And I've never heard of anyone using an adapter to play using a KB/M in Halo 3. I don't really know where you're getting this information from.
 
I said MLG was the worst for me from a fun perspective, not from an overall playlist perspective. I do think it's cool that MLG gets to put in their own map changes and such. I just don't enjoy their style of play.

Note for future generalizations: I don't mind SWAT or MLG rules at all.

Why are you being insufferable merely because Dax doesn't hold your favourite playlist to be as precious as you? If he was a racist, or a bigot, sure, antagonize him mercilessly, but this is the issue you're stuck on?

Free for All probably is at the bottom of the list for me, I don't enjoy it much. It's chaos and lots of death without the cooperative team dynamic.

I find it hard to believe that you have never heard of KB+M adapters for Xbox. They have been around since Halo 2, and are as rampant as turbo controllers in Call of Duty. They are about $40 online (maybe less these days) and while they are still limited to the max sensitivity in the specific game, they obviously turn your average shooter into a web ad, point/click/kill/repeat.

I can sometimes point out in a halo game who has one, they generally don't have a mic (or one of the wireless ones that sound a bit different than the wired variety) they ALWAYS have a gamertag such as xXxPwNGoDxXx, are noticeably terrible at walking/jumping around the environment (generally stand in one spot and mash left/right on their keyboard while aiming with a mouse) and usually have 17 kills, 2 deaths, 16 headshots, weapon of choice Sniper Rifle (even/especially 2 feet away from an opponent) They also do things like camp atop unreachable spawns, manipulate the network with lag switches and IP flooding, and quit games that they might actually lose.

You are not familiar with any of these shenanigans in Halo 3? I guess the game works great, the community is full of first class gentlemen, and the playing field is fair.

I never have any of these problems when playing with my real friends, up to 12 of them in a game, most in Ontario, a few on the East Coast, a couple on the West Coast. If there ever is a lag problem, someone owns up to it right away "Oh, i got torrents going, whoops!"
 
When is PAX again? I remember a lot of you guys meeting each other in person for the first time last year. I'm in AZ so a little skip up north might be possible.

Also, Congrats en masse to Voc and Ramirez! I think Voc will be a great asset as he is well versed in Halo lore and well read. His GAF tag is a testament to how eager he is to share the wealth of knowledge in that head of his.

I just look at how fun playlists are to me. The only reason why MLG and Team Swat are so low is because they cater to a different audience than I and a different play style that I just don't find to be that fun.

Strangely, I enjoyed MLG back when I was playing Halo 2 regularly. If you asked me to play a game of MLG on Halo 2, I'd probably take you up on that offer. The reason why I don't like MLG in Halo 3 is because Halo 3's gameplay is a lot better than Halo 2's and I feel MLG just removes a lot of what makes Halo 3 fun.

Edit: I play snipers to play shotguns.:lol

My favorite playlists, in no order are:

  • Big Team
  • Team SWAT
  • Squad Battle
  • MLG, actually(too bad nobody on my friends list likes to play it)
  • Social Playlists(Slayer, DLC and Skirmish)
  • And Team Slayer(if I could actually find someone to help me rank up to a level, and not help me lose them)

Same here. I like Free For All at LAN parties(which I don't go to anymore, for some reason..), and in Custom games with friends, but something about online communities just kills it for me. Or I just suck. That's probably it.

And because of that, I will never get Mongoose Mowdown, Two For One, Overkill, Killing Frenzy, and Steppin' Razor, unless it's during Halloween, and I get lucky. Or that I go into Lone Wolves and try to get them. :(

also i never have had a problem with these people. i'm sure they're out there but they must be few and far between because i do play snipers and swat and never felt that someone was "cheating". also if you can't move well in swat then you're fucked no matter how precise you are.

If it's something like Team Snipers on Ghost Town (which that was in), I'll use the weapon that is the most suited for the map. And I was just joking around, I play Team Snipers for snipers too, but I'll use whichever weapon is best suited for the current situation (in Ghost Town that's mostly short-range fights).

Yup, just pull the trigger really fast. I discovered it on the Chopper a few months ago, but found it made such a tiny difference it wasn't worth worrying about.
 
Speaking of playing Halo with a mouse, I hope that Halo PC hinting Bungie was alluding to is improved netcode. I'd love to play more of the oldies (cmt_snowgrove, yoyorast island, Blood Gulch, Gephyrophobia, Ice Fields, etc.) without the game-induced lag.
