Title says it all, but here's the deal: what have I missed in the last 10 months that I need to know when I hook the console up again?

Last time I played the Wii, there were:

No new channels.

No Virtual Console games.

Only a handful of decent titles.

No online (that I was aware of) (how do I get online now anyways? I have a wireless router).

No new peripherals/add-ons.

So now that I'm ready to give it another go (with the awesomeness software on the way), what do I need to know that I've missed since launch to be up to date with Wii world?

Thanks.

All you need to know is that you'll never lose an eye again with your Wiimote since Nintendo is offering free jackets for them.

For Virtual Console games, you must buy Super Metroid. Sin & Punishment is also up, Landstalker as well. Buy those.

As far as actualy Wii software, you haven't missed too much. Super Paper Mario was good, RE4: Wii is amazing if you haven't already played it, and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption just came out, which is better than MP2 but not as much as MP1.

Fire Emblem is out at the beginning of next month, and I'm sure you know about Super Mario Galaxy. Everyone's raving about Zack & Wiki around here.

Some third party stuff as well - NiGHTS seems to be shaping up, new Trauma Center coming, RE: Umbrella Chronicles, and...that's about it.:lol

So yeah, like any other system in its first year...not a lot just yet.

You've missed out on copious amounts of shovelware trash. Barely anything worth playing since Zelda. Put it back in the closet and forget you wasted $250 on another Gamecube.

I actually didn't play my Wii between march-august, then I turned it on for metroid, then nintendo jacked my metroid, and its been off every since. looking forward to Zack and Wiki though, as should you.

Sonic...something. Been a while since I've played it.
and the Secret Rings. Yeah, that's actually a good game.

If you didn't get Trauma Center already, that's a must-buy if you can find it.

Zelda: Twilight Princess
Metroid Prime 3

Super Paper Mario
Super Mario Strikers Charged
Trauma Center
Excite Truck

Decent games:

It must be awesome buying consoles to just not touch them for a year.

Hardly. It sucks balls. Been missing Wii Sports to be honest, but haven't had time to play it (or Zelda) in a long long time.

And Mio, how exactly do I go about getting the free controller jacket things? I registered my Wii back at launch and they gave me new wrist straps on the website. Is it something like that?

First, Metroid Prime 3 - truly the current best game on the Wii.
Second, RE4 - truly the second best game on the Wii.
Mario Strikers Charged too, especially with a lot of Gaffers here who still play online sometimes.

MP3 will take you about 25-30 hours of gameplay on veteran difficulty - so about 3 days of full time (8-10 hours per day) gameplay.
RE4 will take you about 25-40 hours (it's varied depending on how good you are) of gameplay on normal difficulty - so about 3-5 days of full time gameplay.
Both games have a higher difficulty level to unlock so expect a few more days to complete the higher difficulty level.

Mario Strikers Charged should last you an hour or two each day playing online. It's hard to get tired of the game playing it online. So probably about a few weeks to a month before you want to play something else online.

Second, if you like point n click adventure games a la Sam & Max/Monkey Island/King's Quest, then Zack & Wiki will be available on Tuesday.

I believe those games should cover you a month until December when Trauma Center, Mario Galaxy, Ghost Squad, RE:UC hit the Wii.

Buy the handful of decent titles.

Select from:
--Metroid Prime 3. NOW
--Super Paper Mario
--Zelda: Twilight Princess
--ExciteTruck is full of EXCITE
--Mario Strikers Charged
--WarioWare Smooth Moves
--Trauma Center, Trauma Center 2 is coming
--Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition
--Elebits
--Battalion Wars is coming this month (or next month?)
--Fire Emblem next month
--Mario Galaxy is next month
--Smash in February
--Zack and Wiki
--No More Heroes

Some many people might not like, but I'd like to recommend:
--Guilty Gear
--Metal Slug Anthology

Maybe some old Gamecube games you didn't get before

Sort of agree.

Virtual console is awesome, buy some stuff you never played.
vc-reviews.com is the best source of non GAF recommendations.

Did Nintendo ever end up doing downloadable demos or demo disks or anything like that? That we be fantastic if they did.

I'm surprised there are people who liked it. The music alone scared me away from that game.

"MAKE BELIEVE REBORN!"
The music was laughably bad, but then I like unintentional humor. :lol

It's a hit and miss game, I think - for a lot of Sonic 3D fans, it's pretty much a sign of potential of a good 3D Sonic game returning back to form after the debacle that is Sonic in 360.

MLB: Power Pros isn't getting enough love in this thread--it needs more. Easily one of the deepest games on the system and it's literally chock full of options and gameplay modes. Some other great /good games are Super Paper Mario, SSX Blur, Guilty Gear Accent Core, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Mercury Meltdown and Super MArio Strikers are all fun.

Shining Force, Breath of Fire 2, Sin and Punishment and Actraiser are all VC musts.

Edit: EXCIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITE TRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCk

Not yet.

That would reinforce their Playing = Believing mantra a great deal though. :lol

I think the lack of ads and hype for the game might be an indication why it's such a hidden gem.

Who's publishing the game in US again?

This thread is stupid with Super Mario Galaxy coming out in less than a month.
In a month's time, if you can play awesome games you've missed - then no, it's not a stupid thread.

I think it's because of the shitty job that the "marketing of the year" award winner is doing right now.

I bought Wii at launch and I stopped playing it soon as Wiimotes batterys runned out. I played Zelda only about 4 houers then I realised it's the same as all the other Zelda games. So my Wii has been plugged out 10 months also and it's still is :). Well Mario Galaxy is soon out and I have bought rechargeable batteries so i guess my pooring days are over. Maybe I even finish the Zelda and try out Metroid.

But next year looks promising No More Heroes, Tales of Symphonia, Brawl, Wii-fit, Okami (I dont have the PS2 version, im a bad person), Mario Kart, Monster Hunter 3, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers, Dragon Quest Swords, Nights,
Disaster: Day of Crisis. Those should keep me busy unless most of them are pile of steaming s***.

Oh and Zak & Wiki, Residen Evil UC and Paper Mario are on my this years list.

have all three systems. I play my 360 everyday. I only have demos for my PS3 and I only play wii sports on my wii. I have my wii since launch with Zelda and have never played it. LOL I really need to play Zelda, MP3 and SPM

Stealth troll? It's WAAAY obvious that I'm the minority here. Wii has been doing phenomenally well so I'm not trying to say most people haven't played theres since launch. Just me. It's not something I'm proud of either.

And now it sucks because I have no idea what's going on with the platform. For all I know they've released a dozen firmware upgrades and new channels. I don't even know how to get the damn thing online I'm so out of the loop.

That's why I made this thread - to find out.

I'm actually considering picking up a Wii now that Mario Sunshine is around the corner although I do not think I'll be able to get one till after the new year because there is no way I'm camping for one.

I need to also look into VGA solutions for the Wii because I don't think I want to hook it up to my entertainment center in the living room.

I played Wii Sports for a good month or two, got 30 or so hours in Zelda before I stopped, played a lot of Excite Truck, and that's basically it.

I'll get around to the other stuff sooner or later but I'm looking forward to SMG the most.
