The Official Penny Arcade Thead

I was seriously planning on picking up Dungeon Siege 3 sometime until I read this strip. I had no idea that co-op worked like that.

Also, I wish they'd do strips like this more often. It's very classic Penny Arcade to draw the characters into the game.

In couch coop it works perfect though, it saves the progression of both characters played by me and my wife as far as i have been able to tell so far. She gets loot, levels up etc.. as long as it in my game.
We loaded a save point and it was all still there. I can see how it sucks online though.
Gotta say PA style seems all over the place lately.. like they are to busy with something else at times and go .."oh yeah we need a comic" , other times you see labour of love on some for their comics.(at least in the art.)

Penny Arcade is at its best when it highlights a problem with the industry or a specific game. It's almost like the political cartoon of the video games industry.

Have Gabe and Tycho ever explained why their artwork gets uglier, sloppier and lazier with each year?

Well I don't think they'd discuss exactly that :P

He's just experimenting, probably. The latest comic looks as good as their better stuff (bar special Lookouts/Automata/whatever comic, of course).

Well Gabe's style is constantly evolving over the years. Whether it is uglier, sloppier or lazier is a matter of opinion.

Gabe seems to be pretty restless with his style; it seems like he can't settle on a consistent look.

I don't think it's been heading in a better direction lately, either, but I'm still amazed at the evolution of his skill through sheer practice from the beginning of the strip. Apparently he always liked drawing, but honestly those first strips didn't t really suggest anything more than a marginal talent at doodling. His improvement is a testament to discipline.

I think it comes more down to something using exaggeration as part of the comedy, you don't see him do it too often but when he does there's a joy to it.

I've been reading the strip for about ten years now, and I love to see the art change over time. Honestly, I think how the strip looked in around 2003-2004 was my favorite.

I agree. The strips had so much detail back then.

Gabe got called out on something egregious in a comic and he mentioned that parenting is taking up a lot of his time these days.

Eh even then it was hit or miss. You had gems like this:

And stuff like this:

One area where he's come a long way is in facial expressions. I love Tycho's face in this final panel, because it helps carry with it the exact intonation of the line he's giving:

They put out 3-solid comics a week. As well as running the company, the site, doing planning for the expos (which take nearly all the downtime between each one).

If they come up with a golden child strip and love the joke he puts a little more effort into the art.

But if they are eyeball deep in other stuff and throw together a small lol strip or some quick commentary one I am willing to give them a break because at least they aren't like Perry Bible Fellowship when even while he was 'active' it took him weeeeeeeks to post up a new comic. And some of them were little more than line drawings.

I... don't get it? Maybe because I don't know what the last panel is.

<removed Wikipedia link since it contains real actual spoilers right at the start>

Amy Pond, from Doctor Who.

I'm hoping it's meant to be Amelia rather than Amy. There's something a little... uncomfortable about it being Amy.
